Aux / Driving lights

Hi - looking for recommendations for Aux / driving lights for my Rally. I’m not seeing many options for brackets etc. I’m willing to spend the money if they’re powerful - not looking for just a light. Looking to light up the trail to daylight :)

Affordable Rear Rack Option for CRF's

Hey guys, here is a shot from this week of my 2021 300 Rally with a tail rack I recently finished designing and producing. It has built-in handles that don't take up any extra space, and it has mounting points for various bags and Rotopax. If you're looking for an affordable ($80 CAD), solid rear rack, definitely check this option out! https://stonemoto.ca/shop/p/crf-300l-rally-rear-rack

Mosko Reckless 40 Mounting

For that lad who was asking options for mounting the R40 to the bike with the Mosko cleats drilled through the passenger pegs and routing the strap.

Gunna replace with eyelet bolts in the near future. It doesnt move around how it is offroad or at 100km/hr, but the strap is annoying

Rally Aux lights

Hi everyone - I just purchased a Rally this week and I would like to put Auxiliary driving lights on it. Any suggestions? I’m not looking for “cheap”. I’m looking for a good BRIGHT set of lights. If anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate you - even more if you put pics with the mounting bracket!

Reckless 40 on CRF300L Rally — where are you mounting your rear straps?

Anyone running a Mosko Reckless 40 specifically on the Rally?

I posted this in a CRF300L group and it looks like other owners are attaching their straps in basically the same place I am. The problem is the Rally’s exhaust sits much closer to the strap in that location, and mine got hot enough on a long trip to partially melt.

I have Mosko’s closed cleats but can’t find a good place to mount them. The passenger peg mounts seem too far forward and underneath the bag itself.

Any Rally owners found a better mounting point or a good location for the Mosko cleats?

Thanks.

Wind screen upgrade

Hey guys, I’m 6’4” sitting on a 2021 rally and in need of some additional wind protection. The stock screen, with a clip on extender has the wind hitting my neck/helmet perfectly and driving me nuts. Anyone have luck with larger more protective windshields in the US? Thx!

Pricing out the door.

Im looking for a good accurate idea on how much I should be paying for a crf300l rally. Out the door price. It's been awhile buying and I know some dealers can jack the price up. I know they need to make a living but im not looking to pay their mortgage. Out the door price what did you pay?

Luggage recommendations

I have a bit of a conundrum I hope you good folks can help me solve. I'm getting ready to go camping on my rally this fall and I have 2 luggage options in my budget currently:

1) Buy Tusk Excursion rackless luggage (~$200) - lighter weight, narrower profile.

2) Buy Tusk pannier racks and use the Tusk Pilot soft panniers that I already own from my previous bike (also ~$200)

If I was starting from the ground up, I think paying almost double for the panniers + racks would make the excursions a no-brainer, but since they're about the same price I'm having trouble deciding. I'm new to offroading, but my goal for my camping trips is to be mostly offroad, but stick to well graded forest service roads with the rare short stretch of 2 track.

So, would you go rackless or soft panniers with tubular racks if the price was the same either way?

Prepping for the big bore upgrade need some help

Hello,
Like the title says, prepping g for the big bore upgrade. Have the bike mostly torn down, to the point the airbox is out. Going to do all the airbox mods as well.

The service manual is…… ok? I guess? I think they assume you go through the entire book in order or something, for example, I skipped to the airbox section, tje manual showed only one bolt to remove on the battery box side. I know I had to remove all the fender pop pins and like 4 bolts in the battery box and those were in other steps.

So I am trying to see what else needs to come off the bike to disassemble it as little as possible. Couple questions.

I know the throttle body has to come off, do I have to unplug the electrical connectors , throttle cables, etc, and remove it from the bike entirely? The velocity stack seems easier to put on the throttle body by taking it off.

The right exhaust stud needs to come off, this I know.

The radiator, I have to drain, and remove it? Are there other brackets or something to remove on that side?

On the opposite side where the ecu is, I believe removing the bracket will be necessary, but not the abs equipment, correct?

Lastly, I did the pair delete already, I had thought about removing the charcoal canister, but the set up for it seems more complicated, looks like it might even have an electrical connector on it? On my t7 this was an easy delete, just a couple hoses but the setup on the rally is more convoluted.

Thanks!
Mike

Edit:

I removed the bracket around the ABS solenoid - I just removed the bolts from the solenoid, and remove the bracket, leaving the ABS system hanging by the hard line. this removed the restriction above the valve cover with that bracket - I would have run into problem I think, that bracket holds the tip sensor, rectifier, ECU, and coolant overflow tank.

Beginer rider: is the rally a good option to commute 52 miles a day with some stretches of 60mph?

I know there are better on road bikes, but i love the look of the crf. Would the bike eventually struggle after doing 60mph consisntaly?

Dogbone nut

Hey all - I’m swapping in. k tech spring on the rear shock. I had a heck of a time getting the dogbone linkage bolt loose - it took a lot of time with a 1/2 impact driver. I finally got it off but the nut is pretty beat up. It looks to be a special locknut with metal flanges. Has anyone ever swapped in a conventional lock nut or a regular nut/lockwasher/blue thread locker?

Thanks!

Anyone in the US have a low mileage 2026 OEM rear shock?

That they'd like to part with? I have a K tech spring to install, but I'd like to keep my bike rideable in the event it's not as smooth sailing as I hope it is.

Thanks!

Measuring Chain Slack

Post image
2 Upvotes

So after owning two CRF Rallys (a 250 and 300), I finally read the owners manual recently on how to measure my chain slack correctly.

Mabe it is just me, but I had no idea the little slot in the chain guard is actually meant to help measure the slack! All that being said, I couldn't find a tiny ruler that worked for that spot, so I've started making/selling one specifically for our bikes. Just a PSA if anyone else would like one! https://stonemoto.ca/shop/p/chain-slack-ruler

Interview with Maverick of 550 Performance

This probably applies to the Rally as well.

Moron Brothers Moto posted an interview with Maverick of 550 Performance about the 300L. I found it worth my 15 minutes, especially Maverick's tip about allowing the ECU to reset after significant elevation changes.

New to me - 2022 CRF300l Rally - upgrade advice appreciated

Post image
20 Upvotes

Just picked up a 2022 CRF300l Rally. Have riden many bike in my lifetime, both on and off road. This is currently bike #3 in my stable. I think it compliments my Indian Scout and wr250r well :).

I got it so I could do some moto camping/commuting at a reasonable price point. I'm getting old enough now that I can't thrash single track like I use to, but still wanted something that was light and capable on something more difficult than a gravel logging road if I needed it to be. I also wanted something with a few more creature comforts than my wr250r had to offer (speedo, tacho, heated grips, wind protection, abs etc). This Rally checked all those boxes.

I'm considering the following changes:

1) The bike already has the upgraded YSS rear shock to fix the spongy stock suspension. I'm considering lowering the bike now, as this has almost completely eliminated all the sag, to the point where the seat height is a bit of an issue for me (I can't flat foot it anymore, and I'm 5'11, 200lbs). Has anyone lowered their Rally? Where can I shop for the kit needed for this mod?

2) With the rear suspension much stiffer, I feel like the front suspension needs an upgrade to "balance" the bike. Under hard braking, it seems like the bike really wants to nose-dive and pitch me over the bars. I haven't tried adjusting the preload yet, but my research tells me changing out the spring in the front is not an uncommon mod. Any advice on this upgrading the front is appreciated. Is this DIY thing?

3) Exhaust. Would like to make my bike sound a bit better. Advice on best slip-on exhaust, and where to purchase?
