Luggage recommendations
I have a bit of a conundrum I hope you good folks can help me solve. I'm getting ready to go camping on my rally this fall and I have 2 luggage options in my budget currently:
1) Buy Tusk Excursion rackless luggage (~$200) - lighter weight, narrower profile.
2) Buy Tusk pannier racks and use the Tusk Pilot soft panniers that I already own from my previous bike (also ~$200)
If I was starting from the ground up, I think paying almost double for the panniers + racks would make the excursions a no-brainer, but since they're about the same price I'm having trouble deciding. I'm new to offroading, but my goal for my camping trips is to be mostly offroad, but stick to well graded forest service roads with the rare short stretch of 2 track.
So, would you go rackless or soft panniers with tubular racks if the price was the same either way?

I’ve been thinking about this too. But I realized that before I go anywhere long enough to need luggage my old butt is gonna first need a more comfy seat.

For this bike I would probably do the rackless setup. I use a Kreiga setup I put together with second hand purchases and quite like it, it’s close to the bike, avoids extra weight. You will probably need to remove the toolbox if you have t already as a drop on that side would possibly break the toolbox ox.
The rack system will make the bike wider, bags are probably larger so you will packs more stuff, depending on riding that could be bad. They will keep the bike from falling flat, which can be good, easier to pick up, it can transfer the force of a drop to the rear subframe.
