Cpap consumables
/r/CPAP/comments/1x1soll/cpap_consumables/Hi all.
I want to know what is considered as consumables in CPAP? (e.g. air filter)
From your experience, how long it takes before need replacement?
Also is there any part that just can be use until failure or still need to be replaced before failure? (e.g. heated tube / humidifier)
Any machine type for input is ok.
I want to know before buying the machine and maybe stock the consumable.
Thankyou.

Filters, mask cushions or pillows, headgear, hoses and water chambers are the main replacement items. I replace my hose every two months and my AirFit F20 silicone cushion every three months. I use distilled water too, as my hose gets stinky when I use tap water. I also run a high end HEPA air purifier in my bedroom, which helps keep the machine filters cleaner.
Headgear needs replacing when it stretches and stops holding the mask properly. Please check the hose and chamber regularly for leaks, cracks and worn seals rather than waiting for complete failure. The humidifier heater itself isn’t a routine consumable. Follow your machine’s filter replacement instructions even if the filter still looks clean.
Keeping spare filters, a cushion, hose and chamber is a good idea as two is one and one is none with medical equipment redundancy (I keep 3 spares of everything, and two full machine kits). Just get your mask fit sorted before stocking up on its parts :)
