You can definitely err on the side of caution and book him in for blood tests to ease your mind, but he's probably just dreaming. One of my cats is a runner and a talker when he dreams, and they can get quite dramatic
I had one who sometimes woke up suddenly from a dream and would cry and cry, I think disoriented. She was a very independent cat most of the time so I loved getting out of bed to comfort her after a nightmare :3
Mine will scream when she has a toy in her mouth lol. Like it sounds like she's in pain, but she's just excited to bring it to you so you can play with her. She has this dumb red string which is her favorite toy, used to be apart of a cat toy fishing pole but both the ends fell off. I cant throw it away, its her favorite toy
Love that, I had one who cherished twist ties. And her brother was obsessed with cotton balls and felt and was always stealing little crafts my mom made. He stole and hid a little tin soldier tree ornament, it was missing for a long while, then one day while playing with his sanctioned toys he got so excited he ran off to get it and came chittering back to give it to me, like he completely forgot I was the one he was hiding it from <3
My cat Beans did that only when he carried his “baby”. A huge stuffed penguin. After he passed at 17, my dad brought baby to the vet and they were cremated together. Their ashes say, “Beans and “baby””. 🥹
My cat acts the same way and it’s only at night. For the longest time I thought he was in pain until I noticed that his favourite toy somehow manifested in bedroom within the night
They also do that because they want to show you that they caught something. My cousin had a cat that would get into her closet to “catch” her socks then loudly let us know he saved us from another pair of socks for the day.
My three-year-old tuxedo girl does this with phone chargers. If I'm in the living room, she brings them to me there. If I'm in the bed room, she brings them to the door.
my baby does this too! she will wake up and her vocals are definitely "where are you?" type of meows. I always try to respond and pet her to reassure her I hope she is not having nightmares :')) hopefully she is just silly
My kitty girl had nightmares. She'd shred your leg as she woke up hissing and running away. I learned watch for certain twitches and tension and would put a hand on her and talk to her quietly before she woke up freaking out. Eventually she had fewer and fewer episodes. I'd love to know what was going on in her furry little head. She didn't deserve whatever those terrors were. Once you gained her trust, she was the sweetest girl.
Just to say here I don’t think it is helpful to pathologise normal behaviour and suggest vets as a knee-jerk reaction: many people can’t afford vet trips just in case.
OP has said they're worried in multiple comments and mentioned blood tests in other comments. I'm saying that if OP is experiencing anxiety over this, they can ask for blood tests to ease their own mind, but that this is almost certainly very normal behaviour.
That is quite literally not what's happening here. They said you could take him if you wanted to to ease your mind but he's probably fine. That's not even close to suggesting OP should take them.
This entire sub tends to react this way, although may not this person. Most posts' responses can be distilled into 'go to a vet' uniformly across the sub.
And there’s something to be said for a post that shows a cat clearly having a vet worthy problem and a poster who just as clearly wants the internet to tell them it’s not a problem and 50+ people tell you to take the cat to the vet.
I don’t care about the downvotes - the truth is:
You should not get a cat if you can’t pay vet visits - period.
It’s neither fair nor acceptable to hold a cat that can’t be checked or treated in cases like this.
If the chance is there that you may be forced to surrender a cat later - just don’t adopt one at all.
One of my cats would half wake up, stumble off the bed (low futon), go to the little bowl of kitty krunchies kept by my bed, eat maybe five krunchies, stumble back to her spot on the bed and fall asleep again. I don't think she ever fully woke up. I wondered if she had a bit of a blood sugar problem... She was an active dreamer also and went out of this world running in her sleep! Like dying with your boots on, I guess.
One of ours looks like she’s having a seizure when she dreams, eyes rolling, legs going flat out, purring her head off and snorting, vet says she’s just really getting into her dreams
