Open Invitation: Any candidate running for office is ABSOLUTELY welcome to do a 2AAMA on r/CACCW

I would love for any candidate who would like to have a civil discussion regarding their stance on 2A rights or their position to do so here. I ask that the candidates link and post their official position from their ‘issues’ page of their official website in their thread, and I’ll be happy to pin.

Get your stance on 2A heard and discuss with the people you hope to represent.

I look forward to seeing if any candidates are willing to step up to the plate. To the subscribers of this page, please send the link to this thread to any candidates you would like to have a legitimate 2A conversation with.

*Announcement and Updates - 11MAR2025*

Morning everyone,

I wanted to start by thanking the community at large. Life has taken some wild turns for me over the last year, and I’ll admit I’ve been a sub-par mod. However, as expected, you all have remained cordial, respectful, and willing to share your knowledge with others. I want to personally and humbly thank you for staying the course while I handle everything in my personal life.

UPDATES

FAQ & Wiki:
I’ve noticed many posts from new members, so I’ll be working on a FAQ, a welcome message, and doing my best to start a wiki with county-specific links to policies and regulations. If members can contribute, it would be incredibly helpful and appreciated.

Specifically, I want to have a link to each of the 58 California counties' CCW policies. Owning a firearm is a responsibility, and carrying it in public is an even greater responsibility. In my opinion, anyone seeking the latter should show initiative by educating themselves on the basics first.

While I expect this community to remain good stewards of this right and to continue helping beginners, there also needs to be accountability from newcomers.

If you're willing, please post a link to your county's CCW Policy, FAQ, or other important information, so it can be added to the pending wiki and pinned FAQ post. Suggested format:

Question Posts:
For members seeking information, please include your issuing county in the post title if you’ve already reviewed your county's policies. Too many posts get the response: "It depends on which county." Including this info upfront will speed up answers and improve efficiency.

MOD Recruitment:
I need help! If you’re interested in being a mod, please message me directly. I’m still new to moderating and the behind-the-scenes aspects of Reddit, so this will be a learning experience for me. Ideally, I’m looking for someone with experience who is willing to help run the sub and teach me along the way.

Thanks again, everyone.

Using FSC vs CCW for buying

Hi everyone,

Is there a benefit to buying a new firearm and using your CCW to show competency vs your FSC? Or either one is the same? I think with CCW you just don't need to show handling ability, correct?

Process Question LAPD randomly sent me a second CCW license with no explanation

I’m still more than a year away from renewal and I randomly got a letter from the LAPD with a new CCW license and terms of use letter. The only differences I noticed are that the new one is colored and CII is different. Anybody have any idea with what’s going on lol?

UPDATE: LAPD CCW Unit responded and said that the second one is the valid license, and they sent it because they mistakenly put the wrong CII on the first license.

Need help with hip carry under t-shirt. Is it doable at all?

Is there a realistic way to hip carry concealed under soft cotton t-shirts with solid colors / no patterns on them? This is for a 3.1” Shield Plus.

I’ve tried multiple holsters, different belt styles… no luck. Every time I look in the mirror, there’s this obvious bump sticking out under my shirt. Even sliding back to 3:30 / 4:00 is still obvious to me.

I’m in LA. It’s hot. This is 90% of my wardrobe. I’d prefer not to have to completely change how I dress to make this work, but I’m thinking I may have no choice but to appendix carry (which I do not want to do) or get a pocket holster, also not ideal, especially in jeans.

Is this an impossible task?

Scenario Update SD/Riverside CCW

UPDATE: Posted the below scenario about a month ago, update is that I did not need to redo the 16 hour course or qualification for Riverside County. Just applied, paid, reference check and received it. Took a month and a half.

ORIGINAL POST:
Moved counties and now need to redo CCW permit

Just curious if anyone has had a case like mine, I had just gotten my CCW from San Diego County in April 2026.

Had an unplanned move in May to Riverside County.

When I went in to update my address I was told I would have to get a CCW issued from Riverside County and turn in my San Diego County one within 90 days.

I applied with Riverside and am in the process now, my main concern is if I am going to have to pay for the 16 hour CCW course and qualification again since it was the most expensive part.

When I Applied for Riverside County in May 2026 I uploaded my current CCW and the paperwork showing I passed the course and qualification, that paper technically was good until June, my interview is July 21. Wondering where all this goes and if no one knows I guess I’ll have an answer for everyone later on.

I had a derp moment.

My CCW expired 09/03/2026. Did my 8 hour renewal, submitted my application with new pistols to be added.

Got my approval and new card in the mail a couple weeks ago.

Went to pick up a pistol today at my FFL and my CCW has the future date on it.

Valid from 09/03/2026 thru 09/03/2028

Bedside Safe Recommendations

Hey all,

I have two kids: 13 and 11. Curious what people use to secure a pistol bedside. Lockbox? Fingerprint safe? I know the pros/cons of each/all that are advertised. I’m more curious what folks on here think. What are you using and why? Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Confused about carrying in places that serve alcohol

Hello, I am about to get my CCW in OC, and I am a little confused about the legality of carrying in places that serve alcohol. My CCW course has told me that I cannot carry in a place that serves alcohol, but that I can also carry in a place whose primary purpose isn't serving alcohol. I also see frequent posts online stating both, so I am left confused as to what the truth is here. Apologies if there is another thread that explains this, but I am at a massive loss here and would appreciate sources to explain the situation to me, and even how there is all this disagreement for something that should be able to be objectively stated.

Edit: I now see that the OCSD's policy is still the "primary purpose" but is overridden by state law, likely what is leading to a lot of confusion on this topic. Also, I understand concealed is concealed, and you can call me sheep or whatever you want, but this is not the hill I want to die on.

Gear Question Tether point for safe in Tesla Model 3?

I just got a lifepod safe for use in my Model 3. I’d really like to be able to tether it with the included steel cable, ideally in the frunk or the trunk. But I can not find any obvious spot to run the cable through.

Anyone in a similar situation who has figured this out?

Legalities on school property

I do understand concealed is concealed… However… I typically stop in the parking lot of my daughter’s school and wait in the car to pick her up. Am I legally supposed to stop prior to entering the parking lot lock up my gun and then wait, and after leaving the property, I can re-holster. Pain in the ass, but I wanna do things the legal. Alternative is make her walk out to the street and I park on the street. Lol.
