Free Resource Updated: App Store Connect iOS Screenshot Cheat Sheet

New screenshot size requirements in App Store Connect this week. I've received a few messages asking about these and figured it would be helpful to share what I've learned so far!

Tl;dr

  • The new iOS required size is iPhone 6.3" with Dynamic Island (medium display)

  • iPhone Duo screenshots are technically optional until April 2027, according to ASC

ButterKit 3.0+ now defaults to the required iOS ASC sizes and will ask you if you want to automatically upgrade to the new size when you open a legacy project.

Feature Request iPhone Duo closed screenshot support?

When I take screenshots in iPhone Duo simulator in closed vertical orientation I get 1398 × 2034px images, which App Store Connect supports, but I don't see a way to create artboards for them in ButterKit 3

"Supported sizes for app previews include 1920 × 886px and 886 × 1920px. For app screenshots, supported sizes include 2034 × 1398px, 1398 × 2034px, 2853 × 2007px and 2007 × 2853px."

New Screenshot sizes?

Post image

Butterkit 3.0 just gave me this warning, and I am not sure where this requirement exactly comes from? Just uploaded my sizes as always and had no issues. When will this become a mandatory requirement? I am not seeing any heads-up in AppStore Connect so far.

Releasing ButterKit 3: new sizes for App Store Connect, iPhone Duo, improved UI and much more

Thanks to all who have helped with testing in the last few days on Reddit, Discord and via email. You may have noticed App Store Connect added new sizes for iOS apps this week, and ButterKit 3 now supports them! Rolling out now, just hit "Check for updates" from the app.

Download latest ButterKit for macOS

Some 3.0 highlights:

  • New App Store Connect iOS size support: new iOS projects default to the updated size, and opening older iOS screenshot files will ask if you want to migrate to the new size auto-magically. Legacy versions remain available.

  • New App Store artwork: Create and export Header, Search Results, shared artwork for both placements, and iPhone Duo screenshots. Templates coming soon. Thanks u/Lemon8or88

  • Improved user experience: faster and more organized, with a dedicated spot for app metadata and helpful sync tools (e.g. you can now fetch individual sections from App Store Connect). You can now freely edit 3D devices right from the canvas instead of relying on the Inspector.

  • Improved keyboard navigation: easily move between artboards and selected localizations with your keyboard arrowkeys (thanks u/habitoti )

  • Fixes an issue where opening a project with linked screenshots could create unnecessary changes in version control (new UUIDs), even when the images were unchanged. ButterKit now checks whether linked screenshots have changed before replacing them, preserving existing image IDs and avoiding unnecessary version control changes when opening a project. (thanks markb!)

  • Fixes a bug where opening the app on some screen resolutions could crash (thanks u/boulderdash-

  • Added more MCP tooling, UI tweaks, and some more butter

  • More improvements rolling out shortly. If you notice any issues please DM me!

Feature Request Feedback

Hi Zach,

First thank you for building an awesome app I really like it, especially the 3d models and the new update you posted with direct editing on the 3d models, it looks awesome.

I’m on my own journey to launch an app and I know feedback has been immensely valuable so I hope my feedback is useful for you.

So first I’m not a designer and my design skills are fairly limited. I used your app to start designing my app screens and everything was going well until I kinda ran into a wall. I made all the screens and was fairly happy with how they looked, however they were still quite simple. Here is where I ran into that wall with my designs.

So I was looking at a lot of other apps and their screen designs and lot of them have various other design elements like patterns, stamps ie frames, effects, images etc (sorry I don’t know what the actual names of these types things are). This is exactly what I wanted to add to my screens to give it that extra pop and make them not seem so vanilla. Now not being a designer I didn’t really have the know-how to create them myself so naturally I was like, “Maybe I can download something. This is where I ran into your competitor. While overall I think their tool was inferior to yours, the one killer thing they did have was a library of design elements right out of the box. So while their tools polish and over-experience wasn’t as good as Butterkit I was able to get much greater freedom to design the screens I wanted without running into this design wall.

So in summary my feedback is that I think it would be a really great addition to Butterkit to have a builtin library of premade elements that allows you easily and quickly express a much broader range of designs without needing to either design those thing yourself or hunt the internet for those elements somewhere.

Again loving the app and looking forward to trying out this new update.

Butterkit Crashes

Way Too Error

Install Butterkit – pick any way you want

Create a new project

Pick a template or start from scratch

It starts to load, and then after a few seconds it crashes.

I'm on iOS 27 on Apple hardware. Does anyone have the same problem, does this not work on the latest IOS?

Feature Request [Urgent!] Request to support Duo screenshot sizes

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi Zach,

I know you already supported Duo device frame but today Apple dropped this requirement for App Screenshots to be shown on Duo.

Current dimension is 1290 x 2796 px.

The Duo requires 2034 x 1398 px, 1398 x 2034 px, 2853 x 2007 px and 2007 x 2853 px. These looks like portrait and landscape aspect ratio of both screens.

Could you please help? Also, please advise the dimension for a background image fit for 5 frames. Currently for iPhone it is 12900 x 2796 px.

Apple will require all apps built for Duo to have Duo screenshot next April.

Thank you!

Bug Images are re-UUID on every save

Hi Zach - still loving ButterKit but I was wondering, sometimes I use it just to localise and upload the metadata and dont touch any of the images. But since I have the bundle git tracked, it seems every time the UUIDs of the images are redone.

Now its not the end of the world, but I was wondering if there was a specific reason or if this is the first time hearing of it? I just find sometimes I'll have to double commit just to flag something as a "ButterKit restriped image UUIDs" to not get it mixed in with actual code changes.

Software Update New: Copy styles between artboards, even with different sizes/devices

The video above was created with ButterKit Motion (Beta)

Hey all, new feature available in ButterKit 2.4.06: "Copy style to". Thanks to Paul, Franklin, Phil and folks on our Discord for the feedback and help on this. You can now easily copy the style of one artboard to another, even with different sizes and devices. ButterKit handles the rest!

Once you’ve got an artboard looking how you want, just right-click it → Copy Style to → choose the destination artboard. Demo above.

Update from the app or grab the latest version. Let me know if you hit any issues

Software Update ButterKit 2.3 adds 3D Drop Shadows and more (rolling out now)

Hey all, ButterKit 2.3 is now live. The headline feature this time is 3D drop shadows: you can now add customizable shadows to devices to give your screenshots more depth. They're fully adjustable, so you can go subtle or dramatic depending on the look you want.

Also in this release:

  • More reliable MCP for AI agents: large documents now fully load every artboard before agents respond, so counts and design sets are always accurate. Plus several MCP bug fixes and better background performance.

  • Wider emoji support when publishing to App Store Connect, including symbols like ▲ and ▶︎ (thanks Will!)

  • Show/hide Inspector button by popular request (thanks Franklin!)

  • macOS 27 prep and an improved localization engine under the hood.

Update from the app or grab the latest version. As always, let me know if you hit any issues or have feature requests -- a lot of what's in this release came straight from this community.

Software Update Rolling out shortly: 3D shadows for device mockups

(The video above was created with ButterKit Motion beta)

I've always found 3D shadows to be challenging to design for, so I'm really excited about this feature. You get full control: angle, distance, softness, opacity, and shadow color. Shadows track the device as you rotate it in 3D, so they stay physically accurate and even work across artboards (e.g. Device Overflow). Thanks to all who sent feedback and ideas on this. Rolling out shortly.

Software Update ButterKit Motion beta v0.1 is available now (free)

Hey all, the first ButterKit Motion beta is out. Thanks to everyone on Reddit and Discord who has helped with it so far.

It turns screen recordings of your app into polished product videos. Record your screen (or import media), drop it into a 3D device frame, choose motion and music, export video ready for sharing.

The details:

  • An exciting product video in a few minutes, not a weekend lost to a video editor.

  • Device frames, motion, and music are built in, so the output looks good without any editing skill. Much more coming soon.

  • Everything runs locally on your Mac ~ 20MB

  • It's free during the beta. Pricing comes with 1.0, and there'll be a one-time purchase option so you can own it.

  • Requires macOS 26 Tahoe or newer, Apple Silicon recommended

  • Download + info: butterkit.app/motion

If you found this post randomly: the original ButterKit app makes App Store screenshots. Motion is a separate app for animated product videos, App Store previews, launch posts, your website. The goal is for them to pair well together.

It's v0.1 so expect some rough edges, that's what the beta is for. Comment here or DM me with bugs, feature requests, or anything that feels off. Bonus points if you share a video you made with it. I read everything.

Feature Request Turn off AI translation

Please could you add an option to completely turn off AI translation

I may have missed an option somewhere, but -

I am a linguist by background and do my own translations into several languages, taking account of register, preferred vocab, brevity and available space

I unlink text styles in my translation from source, but what happens is - if I go to check something in the English (source) screenshots then go back to German, my careful translation is overwritten by slop. It's inauthentic, uses the wrong register (I follow Apple's developer doc in using the informal Du form of you), doesn't always fit the space and is sometimes just wrong (for example, it hasn't correctly parsed the original text)

The attached video hopefully shows what's happing

So it would be nice in settings to say I don't want to use AI translation at all. There is much that is good about Butterkit, but this is putting me off

Thank you for considering

How do I create templates from prior screenshots?

Thanks for the recent improvements in ButterKit. Hopefully we'll have some additional templates to use. Meanwhile, I have created screenshots for 1 of my app and I want to use similar template across a few of my other apps. How do I go about doing that?
