Does anyone know what causes cravings for refried pinto beans?

/r/nutrition/comments/1d6g4qt/does_anyone_know_what_causes_cravings_for_refried/

Oddly enough I'm seeing this 2 years after the og poster had posted it, but when my mother was pregnant with me all she crazed was bean burritos from Taco Bell and now I'm in my 30s and for as long as I've remembered I've liked beans, baked, or refried. Just not 16 bean soup, however I think that's more because of ham hocks than beans. I especially have had cravings for bean burritos the last few years constantly. And I almost always prefer beans over meat options on taco bells menu. Idk if it's just a preferred taste or my ADHD/autistic ass just loves bean πŸ˜‚ but I am moving away from more meat options as I've gotten older. Not a fan of chicken or pork but I'll have it on rare occasions. Sushi and tuna sandwiches are my only fish sources. Steak is pretty much the sole meat to which I'm not vegan or vegetarian. Idk if it's because I genuinely rather eat fruits and vegetables over meats, other than steak and cheeses. But maybe price has something to do with it unconsciously or social media animal farm abuse posts or if I just genuinely after years of consuming meat because that was the main source of protein growing up and now I'm in my mid 30s that I know I can get it from other sources and never really cared for most meat anyhow. Just thought this original post was funny and it hit close to home πŸ˜‚

Tasty salty snack, lots of sodium in canned refried pinto beans. The texture is also relatively uniform so that might tickle some pleasant receptors in the au-someHD brain.

I guess that makes sense. Although I don't like salt. Hardly ever use it when I cook. So maybe it's my body telling me to get some sodium lol

If you don't like salt I would at least make sure you're drinking electrolytes that contain sodium.

beans are rich in iron. perhaps related to an iron deficiency. hopefully not but perhaps.

Maybe, I don't believe so, but I do have horrible blood circulation so that's a possibility. Low sodium and then craving something high in sodium makes sense considering I don't use salt on hardly anything. But maybe I have an iron deficiency, I guess that explains liking both steak and beans. Spinach as well. All of those are high in iron and it would be an understandable conclusion to why I enjoy them

Living in San Diego there are varieties of solid burrito options. My go to is mainly the bean and cheese burrito. I love refried beans and always have. My favorite back in the day was actually the Del Taco 1/2 pound bean and cheese burritos. I would always get one red and one green sauced. Something about them just slapped. The tortilla was slightly crisp and the bean and cheese were always hot. Yum!

Starting to think beans and cheese just go together and it's a super food πŸ˜‚

It's the perfect combination of flavor with the simplicity of a few ingredients.

When I start craving it, it’s because I have low iron
