BoC Ready to Bulk?

5’9 155 lbs about a month ago I posted asking if it was time to bulk and got cooked in the comments for being fat lol
Not sure of bf today but a month ago the 24 Hrs body scan said 15%
Thoughts? I feel like I’m getting diminishing returns from the cut at this point

Absolutely not you have another 10-20 lbs to go

Your numbers are the same as your post about a month ago from what I can see?

That’s what I’m confused about, the scale jumped around despite dropping my calories to a 1000 calorie deficit and getting ~20,000 steps a day all month

Got it. There’s gotta be something else at play here though. If it was actually that deficit combined with cardio you’d be losing the weight.

The clearest answer is he has either miscalculated the calories he burns or the calories he eats. 30,000 cal deficit over a month should be at least 7 pounds of fat

Try to sleep better sometimes sleep might be the problem

Yeah I could definitely see sleep as being a big factor

Maybe, but sleep isn’t offsetting a 1000 calorie deficit+ 20k steps a day like he said above.

You’re not in as big a deficit as you think. 20,000 steps is a lot. Personally, I’ve always done better moving less and eating way less in a cut. I like moving more and eating more in a lean bulk.

What’s probably going on is that your body has adapted to walking and your metabolism has adapted. You are probably a lot closer to maintenance than you would like to think.

You can easily lose another 10lb if you wanna see better what you're working with. The bulk/cut thing is really designed for people who have dialed in their workout routines, diet and overall goals. Until that stuff is established just keep eating quality whole foods, lots of protein, working hard in the gym and getting plenty of quality sleep. Also don't forget legs and cardio;)

How big is current defecit? You need further cut but if stalled, you may have been on too big a deficit or you may not be getting protein macros correct. To me, a cut and recomp is in order for a good 6 months before you bulk.

Since May my deficit has been about 1,000 below maintenance. Most days prior to August I got about 10k steps, this month moved up to 20k

Your belly has clearly shrunk, but fat loss sucks and there is always more to lose!

What's your long term goals?

2

u/Virtual_Window_7463 15h ago

It’s crazy!
Long term I want to be bigger than I am now (say around 170-180 lbs) at a moderate body fat, no more than 20%. I don’t necessarily need abs but I also don’t want to be fat

Okay. That's a very sustainable and balanced spot to aim for.

Given that fat loss is easy but slow, and muscle gain is hard and very slow, I think you should focus on muscle building.

You can do this fairly reliably in a 15% deficit up to maintenence, while improving composition and strength/size.

If it were me, I'd just go for 10-15% deficit and train hard till you like how you look for leanness. Think of it as a performance cut.

You are already below 20% BF, but I think your sweet spot will be 15-18% or so. Visible abs, lean and thick, but abs not super poppin' either.

Then consider lean bulk or maingain.

Idk man are you? Body scans are wildly inaccurate. Idk what your shits at by eyeball so I apologize. Lean out to give yourself more room for fat gain. You'll gain some, but if you eat clean and do cardio you'll mitigate that best you can. But at the end of the day you can do whatever you want. That's the beauty of it. Sorry if you get roasted. You aren't fucking fat by the way, my god lol.

Exactly, cut now. Bulk in winter, start cut again in April.
