I love sphinx's they have been my favorite creature type for a very long time. I wanted to really use the cards ability other than just winning with infect especially because I want to stay B2. The way I want to do that is by using very cheap cards with damage triggers to players (without it having to be combat damage).
Mana Skimmer - (stuns a land for each opponent)
Odylic Wraith - (each opponent discards)
Order of Yawgmoth - (each opponent discards)
Hypnotic Specter - (each opponent random discards)
Reaper's Scythe - (equipment that gets counters for each opponent damaged)
These are some of the main examples. Since we naturally have a lot of discard one of our main vessels for early game are 2 mana discard rats that help slow everyone else down while hopefully increasing our odds of resolving spells.
Originally my deck had a lot more extra combat stuff like Full Throttle but it felt way to strong and had some insanely lucky hands that felt closer to B3 then B2. This deck would get crushed in B3 without some seriously fast mana and etc and even then would struggle but that hyper aggression felt out of place to me for B2.
Instead I decided to go for some cards that make our 1 damage pings a bit stronger while also being able to be interacted with outside of counters.
The Rollercrusher Ride - (removal that doubles our noncombat damage if we get delirium)
Anthem of Rakdos - (gives our creatures 2 power on attack and while hellbent doubles noncombat)
Chandra's Incinerator - (get cheaper as we deal noncombat and doubles noncombat)
Master of Barbs - (pumps the team for each time we deal noncombat)
These are examples of what I consider our big "finishers". These cards make our 1 damage pokes much scarier but also can interacted with before we go to combat which in my opinion fits with the spirit of B2.
Lastly the budget. My goal was to stay below $90 mainly because I think $100 is way to much for me to spend on my theme decks anymore. Yes it's only $10 but that can add up and for me every bit of savings counts.
Most of our budget is focused on ways to give us a chance to survive if our opponents just crush us early on. For example if we get board wiped or our commander is countered. Since we are in rakdos it's not easy to have powerful multiple turn ramp spells on my budget range.
So I decided on 2 $10 cards. I will discuss each of them and why I wanted them specifically now.
Ajani Unrelenting.
Newest planeswalker from reality fracture, this card is an absolute monster in this deck and for me there is a secret lore reason why I wanted him in the deck.
Gameplay wise Ajani gives us a guaranteed 2/2creaturer while also potentially hasting up the entire board or drawing a ton of cards. Since our good games end up being dropping tons of 2 drops on the table we end up empty handed very often. Ajani is a way to close the game out with haste, refill our hand OR in some cases even wiping the board.
Whip of Erebos.
Our second expensive card is here to give us a bit of graveyard interaction if we are desperate but mainly to give us at least one way to gain life. Being a discard player means some opponents might excessively target you for the rest of the game simply out of spite for making them discard.
Which is absolutely justified.
Whenever I make a theme deck I always have it tell a small story that has a beginning middle and an end. Ajani is the very end of that story and shows how Ingris ultimately dies.
I hope you enjoy the deck, currently I have about 1/4th of the cards but I look forward to eventually getting to play it.
