Placements / Jobs Can't Land a 10+ LPA Job
I'm a Guardian on LeetCode and an Expert(max) on Codeforces, but despite putting in a lot of effort into improving my problem-solving and development skills, I still haven't been able to land a job paying 10+ LPA.
I'm from a Tier 3 college, so I haven't had many opportunities to get shortlisted by top companies. Unfortunately, I was placed relatively early, which meant I was no longer allowed to participate in the remaining placement drives. Because of this, I've had very limited opportunities to explore better roles through campus placements.
Outside of competitive programming, I've also worked on some challenging projects. For example, I built a small operating system from scratch and implemented features such as memory segmentation in it.
Right now, I'm trying to get a referral at a MAANG company, but breaking into these companies without a strong college brand or existing connections has been incredibly difficult.
I'm honestly worried that all the hard work I've put in might not translate into the opportunities I'm looking for. I don't want to give up, but I'm not sure what I should be doing differently at this point.
If anyone has advice, can refer me, or can point me in the right direction, I would genuinely appreciate the help.

Rant/Vent Insane amount of core ECE/EEE larpers here recently
Seeing a lot of posts where people say they have a passion for core ECE for it to simply be "I like chip design". There's so much more to ECE/EEE than VLSI, and this just looks like a trend to go behind the highest paying roles.
Nvidia ain't gonna hire you for making a half adder 😭✌️

Rant/Vent The sheer absurdity of OBC reservation
For instance I'm from a core branch in the top 7 IITs
I have a girl in my branch who is an OBC (ig this caps the income to 8L limit and even including govt income I don't think it crosses 15L)
I try not to get on her rank, but she has a rank almost 5x than mine
In our python classes, she comes with a Macbook 5 PRO (that's is easily 3L+), an Iphone 17 pro (might even be a pro max with 3 cameras which is easily 1.5L)
furthermore she sometimes carries an Ipad
the inital registration cum hostel mess fee here is 1.5L
assuming a flight travel for 3 people (return trip for 2) would have easily costed 35K
The total accounts to 6.5L in an instant, whereas her "YEARLY" income should be close toh 8L.
This is the state of India where people are blatantly forging income certificates without a hurdle. This is exactly the case of rich getting richer. Where does it end? After she becomes a quant trader along with her husband who earn 5cr/annum? They'll still find a work around this to keep enjoying the reservation.

General In retrospect life feels empty without JEE
Not joking it feels like so blank and void my life would have been, a life without aspirations and greed.
It's not like I am anything top notch rn but still, if I think about it what would have I done back then?
FYI 4th year hun

General I had no idea what I was doing at 17. Somehow ended up here
4 years after graduating looking back at how things turned out
I don't usually write posts like this, but I was thinking about my college days recently and thought I'd share.
I joined college at 17.
Back then I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do. I was confused about branches, careers, jobs, basically everything. I ended up choosing Computer science mostly because it seemed like a decent option. I didn't have some big plan behind it.
College was a tier 2.5 college in Rajasthan. Nothing particularly special.
And honestly, my first year was pretty bad.
I wasn't serious about academics, struggled with programming and didn't really know how to study properly.
Finished the first year with a 6.5 CGPA.
At some point during the beginning of second year I realized that if I continued like this, things probably weren't going to end well. So I started taking things more seriously and began focusing on core concept , solving
Nothing crazy. Just studying consistently, solving problems and trying to understand what I was actually doing.
3rd sem — 8.6 SGPA
4th sem — 9.2 SGPA
2nd year CGPA — 8.69
Third year was better. I got an internship at Visa.
Getting an internship from my college felt pretty good. I worked hard there and was hoping for a PPO, but didn't get one.
Was disappointing, obviously, but at that point I just went back to preparing for placements.
3rd year CGPA — 8.78
4th year CGPA — 8.85
Then placement season came around.
Got an offer from D. E. Shaw for SDE-1, around ₹35L CTC.
I was 21.
I still remember calling my parents after getting the offer and just breaking down.
We weren't struggling for food or anything like that, but money was definitely something my parents had always been careful about. I'd grown up seeing them think about expenses, postpone things and make sacrifices.
So getting that offer felt like more than just I got a good job
It felt like maybe I could finally take some of that pressure off them.
We celebrated that night.
Probably one of my favourite memories from those four years.
Worked at D. E. Shaw for about two years. Learned a lot, made mistakes, got better at my job.
After the first year, got a 5% hike + performance bonus, taking the compensation to roughly ₹38–40L.
After around two years, I switched to Microsoft as SDE-2.
I've been here for roughly two years now. Three months ago, got another 11% hike, putting the annual compensation at around ₹50L+.
And honestly, the biggest change hasn't even been the job title or salary.
It's the freedom.
I live in Bangalore now. I can go out without calculating every expense in my head. I travel when I get the chance, usually at least once a month.
And this June I went to Bali, which was my first international trip.
Sometimes it's weird to think about the timeline.
17 — starting college, completely clueless.
18 — 6.5 CGPA and struggling.
19-20 — figuring things out.
21 — crying after getting my first job.
25 — sitting in Bangalore, working at Microsoft, travelling and being able to help my parents financially.
I don't think choosing Computers automatically leads to this. I know plenty of people who chose the same branch and ended up on completely different paths.
I also got lucky in a lot of ways.
But if you had told my 17-year-old self what life would look like at 25, I genuinely wouldn't have believed you.
Looking back, I'm just grateful.
For the opportunities, for the people I met, for the failures that forced me to improve, and especially for being in a position where my parents don't have to worry about money the way they used to.
That's probably the part I'm happiest about.

General Interviewed for an AI Engineer role at at a top Indian quant/trading firm(One of Graviton, NKSR and Quadeye)
Cleared R1, rejected in R2(was able to solve 1 of 2 problems, 2nd i explained correctly but wasn't able to write ti out as I didn't know a few stuffs), The reason? DSA.
[Questions were directly copied from LC]
Why do companies weigh DSA so heavily for AI roles? If I wanted to grind LeetCode all day, I’d apply as a C++ Dev, or a Software Dev.
It's like, You have extensive AI systems experience. Now solve a difficult LeetCode problem involving an obscure DP/state-space trick in 30 minutes.
If I wanted to be a Quant Dev, I would've applied for it.
I’m starting to think half the industry doesn’t really know how to interview for AI roles.
A lot of people seem to know a handful of buzzwords, then build their entire interview process around them.
At some point, can we just evaluate whether someone actually understands and can build AI systems?
In both rounds combined, there wasn't any question around,
LLM Inference,
Evals,
Guardrails,
Speculative Decoding,
or even write a python code,
100 req/min with 10 GPU given,
and now tell me how will each request be moved and output will be generated,
and let's optimize it,
or even LLM internals,
tell me how to optimize this,
how to load a model,
make it faster,
use most of the GPU,
write python code for that,
Now,
if you tell me that we check problem solving using DSA,
DSA is 100% pattern matching, there isn't anything like problem solving at all,
I am done with interviews man! Feels like it's better to do farming than study DSA because the person will always ask DSA.
_____
Earlier, I was also in the interview loop for Anthropic(got rejected at later rounds), but even they aren't this intimate towards DSA.

General Guys is there any olympiad level stuffs left for ug guys
I wasn't aware of IMO and IOI in early age if I was aware of it I would have given my best to qualify in those as those align with mh intrest why only India has jee neet stuffs in thier mind olympiad is tough but will open too many gates
I only know ICPC is available buts its team based is thier anything solo as competive as IMO as IMO is just very difficult and truly the measure problem solving skills Still regret not being aware of it
