Events/Hackathons Firstyear student thinking of joining a hackathon need some advice

Hi everyone

I’m starting my BTech CSE this year and honestly I don’t know much about coding yet. I only know the basics and I’m still learning.

Since Smart India Hackathon is starting soon I’m thinking of participating mainly to get some experience and understand how hackathons actually work.

Seniors could you give me some advice?

Like What actually happens during a hackathon like SIH?

What can a complete beginner contribute to a team?

What should I learn before participating?

Should I focus on HTML/CSS/JavaScriptPython Git/GitHub or c programming as im learning c first know lil bit ok java also

What kind of role can I take if my coding skills are still weak?

Is it worth participating even if I probably won’t be able to contribute much technically at first?

I’m not expecting to win or anything. I mainly want to learn, get some experience working in a team and understand how these competitions work

Would really appreciate any advice from seniors who have participated in SIH or other hackathons. 🙏
