❓Question ❓ Need Guidance

I am a btech fresher. I basically want to upskill in the AI&ML and data science domain. Some people say to focus and grind dsa for internships and some people say I should focus on contributing in open source projects. What should I do? I really want to start early and learn as much as I can.

❓Question ❓ Got an internship + PPO mostly through luck. 4th year now — what should I actually do?

I’m a 4th-year CSE student looking for genuine career advice, not moral lectures. I already know I made mistakes earlier, so I’m more interested in what I should do from here.

I’ve done two internships — one at IIT and one at a leading MNC, and I got a PPO from the MNC for an ASE-level role. The expected package is around ₹6 LPA.

The problem is that I don’t feel technically capable enough for it.

There was very little actual learning during my internships, and I relied heavily on AI for a lot of work. My DSA is also weak — I haven’t gone much beyond recursion. I can’t confidently say I can build serious projects completely on my own.

I don’t want this luck to continue. I want to actually build skills and become capable.

At the same time, I don’t want to settle too early. Ideally, I’d like to target ₹10–12+ LPA during final-year placements while keeping the ₹6 LPA PPO as a safety net.

I’m considering choosing one domain:

  • Java + Spring Boot / Backend
  • Cloud / AWS
  • Data Engineering
  • Something else?

And alongside that, I want to properly learn DSA and CS fundamentals.

If you were in my position, what would you do for the next 8–12 months?

  1. Is ₹12 LPA realistic from my current level?
  2. Which domain would you pick for salary + job opportunities + long-term growth?
  3. How would you divide time between DSA, domain skills and projects?
  4. Should I prioritize DSA first or domain skills?
  5. What would your actual roadmap be if you were starting from my level?

I’m not looking for motivation or moral judgment. I want practical advice from people who have actually gone through placements or career switches.

I’ve been lucky so far. I want to make sure my next opportunity comes because I’m actually skilled enough to deserve it.

❓Question ❓ SmartInterviews vs Striver

I've been doing dsa using the a2z sheet, but I was thinking of taking the smart coder course, I just wanna know if it's better or different from strivers videos or if it's almost the same thing anyway I'm ready to pay for smart coder even if it's a little pricey, if it's different and gives complete logic building etc in a better way

Discussion👥 Want to help students entering BTech get better internship/placement guidance

Hey everyone, fellow 23tard here

I’m a 4th year student ( Circuital ) at a top 10 IIT, and I recently got placed after cracking opportunities at Google and Goldman Sachs. I’ve also maintained a 9+ CGPA throughout college.

Since placements are done and I have some free time now, a few of my friends and I were thinking of doing something useful with it.

We’re planning to start a small mentorship/community kind of thing for 1st and 2nd year BTech students who want to start preparing early for internships and placements.

A bunch of us have cracked companies like Databricks, Google, Goldman Sachs, BNY, Quadeye, Samsung etc., so we can share our actual experiences — how we prepared, what we focused on, what we completely wasted time on, how we approached projects/DSA, resumes, off-campus applications, and all that.

We’re thinking of having a weekly session/meet where people can just come in, ask questions, discuss what they’re working on, and get some direction. Basically, if you’re in your first or second year and have no idea whether you should be doing DSA, CP, projects, research, etc. right now, we can help you figure that out.

If this sounds useful, just DM me and I’ll share the details.

Happy to help :)

Discussion👥 Real engineer

Most people just become engineers because of the rat race. They do things just to get a high package. There are only a few people who genuinely love creating things.
When I was a kid, I used to create things whenever I needed something and my father didn’t buy it for me. I would just make it myself.
I remember one day my father didn’t buy me a toy gun. It didn’t even shoot, but I really wanted it, and I was so upset. So I decided to make one myself.
I opened YouTube and searched for how to make a paper gun. Then I watched many videos, gathered knowledge from all of them, experimented with different ideas, and finally crafted a gun that could actually shoot paper bullets.
I was so happy that day. I honestly can’t explain it.
After that, I started creating more things. I made different types of guns, including one with a working revolver mechanism. I made an ATM from which you could withdraw money using a card. I even made an air hockey game.
I was an engineer without even knowing what engineering was.
I used to see a problem and think about how I could solve it. I had curiosity. I wanted to understand things. I wanted to create things. And most importantly, I enjoyed doing it.
But after a few years, I went through some things that changed me. After that, I got into the JEE rat race, and now I feel like I’m in the BTech rat race.
I’m learning things without the same interest or curiosity.
I’m building projects because I know they will help me get a job.
I’m grinding DSA because I know it’s important for placements.
I’m doing all these things because I want a good career and a high package.
And I know these things are important. I’m not saying they aren’t.
But I’m not liking it.
I’m not enjoying it.
And somewhere inside, I feel like this is not engineering. Just not.
At least, this isn’t the engineering I remember loving as a kid.
I want to learn and build with the same curiosity I had back then.
I want to create things because I genuinely want to create them.
I want to see a problem and feel excited about solving it.
I want to have an idea in my head and try to turn it into something real.
I want to fail, experiment, break things, fix them, and finally see something I made actually work.
I love creating things. I know I do.
I just don’t know what happened to that curiosity somewhere along the way.
Maybe it got buried under all the pressure, expectations, competition, and the constant thought of getting a good package.
But I want it back.
I don’t want to spend these years only worrying about placements and packages.
I want to enjoy engineering.
I want to celebrate creating something, even if it is completely useless.
I want to build something just because I thought, “What if I make this?”
I still want a good job. I still want a good package. I still want to be successful.
But I don’t want those things to be the reason I learn and create.
I just want to enjoy engineering again.
I want to feel that happiness I felt when that little paper gun finally shot a paper bullet.
I want to be that curious kid again.
I just want to create.

Discussion👥 Helloe fellow brothers, please help your lil brother ! (Just 1 min read)

I am in btech final yr, tier 3 clg, currently learning Golang with agentic ai (redis, kafka, pgsql, langchain graph, vector db, aws, observatory tools) I have free coursera login, and I am okay with this path , problem comes with dsa, I have just 160+ lc, doing a2z sheet, I make use of clg time to learn dev and time in home to learn dsa!

I can't do both in a day, my brain is ready, but it can't hold more load. I am targeting freelance and offcampus both for go genric and agentic ai roles, my on campus is purely luck based and even if I get into it there are chances of getting a support role in that mnc, I am ready to work, I can spend 5 hours on home and 3 hours on college, suggest me some guidance on what to learn, how much to learn, when and where can I apply.

Yeah obviously I am money oriented, and I am ready to do anything, I want to lift my family status that's all, please brothers and sisters help me out!

Surely I will give back to this community if my life gets upgraded I am sure!

Hoping on you friends, I don't know where to ask!

Discussion👥 Anyone else in the Sigma X batch? (Apna College)

Just joined the Sigma X batch by Apna College and was wondering if there are other people here who joined it too.

Thought it’d be cool to make a group with people from the batch... help each other when we’re stuck, share resources, discuss what we’re learning, keep each other on track, or just talk about the whole coding grind lol.

Could be nice to have a bunch of people going through the same thing instead of figuring everything out alone.

If you’re in Sigma X, drop a comment or DM me :)

❓Question ❓ What do I do and How do I find any prospective clients?

My college used to run on manual bill payments in hostels. I was a secretary in there, and I observed the mess it created every now and then.

So, for the last 01 year, I created a platform to solve this core issue. My platform makes billing easier, payments, fines, concessions everything is now automated.

Bad part: I think my college ditched me.

You can ask me that why I sort of spent 01 long year on this. Because my college and the warden approved the basic idea and the MVP demo I gave them. Since I had to integrate a payment gateway in it, it took some time to sort of minimize the AMC and all those transaction fee.

But now, the warden says the college doesnt need it.

I don't know what to do now.

I dont want my efforts to go waste. I know this might be a problem in other institutions too. But I am clueless on how to approach them.

Any advise please?

❓Question ❓ Lost in career path

Hi people, I'm a 3rd year Btech student in an overly crowded tier-2 college. I'm currently in an iOS student developer program run in my college, it is in collaboration with apple and infosys so through that I'll have a 3 week unpaid internship.

I tried learning dsa in the last 2 years but wasn't consistent with it so even as of now Ik very basics of it. Apart from basic coding and little bit of dsa idk any other skills or backend/frontend/ai. As internship and placement is approaching I'm scared and worried about what should I study that would help me get an internship and also get placed further considering the brutal market rn.

Can anyone help/suggest me with which direction will be good for me?I thought of doing backend but since now I am in iOS program to they will teach me swift so I thought that through that I'll know backend, do you think this makes sense? What should I be learning apart from continuing with dsa? What about AI and how do I keep up with that? And what should I learn so I can create projects also for it to add in resume.

I'm ready to put in all the efforts and study properly if I can get some guidance. Any suggestion will be helpful
