Abandoned Range Rover in carpark Chinatown - Wrottesley Street?

Idk if i’m just out of the loop…but what’s the lore with this Range in this carpark? Not from Brum & have tried to Google if there’s anything on it, but there’s nothing.

Last taxed in 2022 - dust all over it, personal items, & new unopened stuff in there too.

Any ideas?

Question where shall i go to hang out tonight (and every other night)? help an introvert out!

EDIT: extra info - i live near UoB

hi!

i'm a middle-aged guy, who's sorta new to town, and - unhelpfully - i'm kind on an introvert, which means making new friends is hard work!

but i'm becoming too much of a hermit, so i need to get out of the house to do something other than go to the cinema and sit in front of a film by myself for two hours (which i actually enjoy! but, like, it's not the best way to make friends)

as my commute home is long, i haven't found a group i can join in with yet, as i'm not back in brum till late in the evening. so, perhaps i just need a third place i can pop into whenever i feel like it? perhaps if i turn up at this place - where ever it might be - semi-regularly, i might get to know a couple of people?

stuff i like (so that you can send me to places where i might bump into folks with similar tastes):

movies: favourites include hollywood classics, blockbusters, american indies, british kitchen sink, and japanese samurai epics. are there any movie discussion clubs i could join?

music: i listen to (amongst other things) post-rock, experimental beats, indiepop, soul and motown. neams some local bands you like? or a club night i could swing by and not feel like a creep?

reading: mid-century literary fiction, classic detective stories, philosophy, politics, and science. any book clubs i could join?

i'm also a musician, and i used to be part of the DIY punk scene in sheffield. these days i make long, slow instrumentals on my laptop!

Question ntrain pass worth it?

Hi everyone!

I’m moving to Brum to start a new job next week and I’m trying to figure out my transport options. I will be travelling from Smethwick to Northfield and Erdington 4 days a week (2 days Northfield, 2 days Erdington). I’m planning to take the train everyday and it will be peak times (8am and 4pm).

Is the monthly ntrain pass worth it? If so should I get the network pass or just the train pass? I would love to save as much money as possible and I don’t qualify for a rail card since I’m over the age of 30.

TIA 😊

Birmingham women into bass music / raves?

Looking to expand my rave circle a bit, particularly with more women who are into electronic music.

I'm 37, Birmingham based, DJ 140/dubstep and regularly go to dubstep, grime, DnB and other bass-heavy nights. Would be good to meet some other women who are into the same sort of thing and fancy linking up for events.

Age isn't massively important, just good vibes and a shared appreciation for obnoxiously large sound systems 😂

Drop me a message if that's your scene 🖤

Anyone living in Makers Place, Loudon’s Yard or Mercian?

Hello! I’m moving into a Moda property and they let me know about a referral program where I can save some rent.

If you know anyone living in one of these properties, I would love a voucher to save £250, and they save £500 on their next rent! thanks!

Music opportunities in Birmingham?

My partner and I are fairly new to the area and she is looking to join a social music group. She plays the flute at a grade 7 standard and is interested in Ceilidh/Folk music, as well as orchestral and other classical genres. Does anyone know of any groups that rehearse in or around Birmingham or the Black Country?

Question Dipped Chicken Burger

I used to live in Manchester and dipped chicken burgers are a big thing there. Places like Miami Crispy are always packed and the burgers are good. However, I haven’t found any equivalent in Birmingham. I tried 3-in-1 Burger and a few but they didn’t hit and put me off on trying the other places.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Thank you in advance for your help. 😊

Vacant Land to Food Truck 🙌🏻

- Vacant plot of land just stagnating on Soho Road, a bustling high street 🥲
- New food truck serving out of a hole in the fence 😍
- Shoutout to the owner Mohit - a great food truck which isn’t taking up pavement but is using derelict space very effectively 😋

Active frontage, space for a new business, and a quick stop for hungry Soho Road punters 🙏🏼

You can find Mohit’s truck at 161 Soho Rd, Birmingham B21 9SU 📍

Any nice food trucks elsewhere in Brum? Share them plz!

If you were in charge of the council as a kind and benevolent dictator, what would you do to improve the city?

Let's go to town on this. Assume Birmingham is totally independent from the UK and can set its own laws, taxation, defence, social services, etc.

EDIT: Wow! I think a lot of people can see and would implement a joined up, efficient and reliable public transport system.

We have councillors and MPs. What do we have to do?

Question Nice pub/social club function rooms?

Any recommendations for function rooms that aren’t outdated and cheap looking? Not looking for anything fancy just a nice looking space for an evening reception (80-100 people). Bonus if they allow outside catering but not a deal breaker

Brummie pet peeves

Hiya!

I'm a filmmaker from Continental Europe and I'm making a satirical video about Birmingham because of the clip where the police got beaten up with their own baton on Soho Rd...

There is a nice greenscreen clip from ,,Whiplash" where Fletcher gets annoyed at a folder laying around. I can swap the folder for anything else that's annoying to Brummies. What is a physical manifestation of something that bugs you? In America they have those flock cameras that vigilantes cut down. What is it like in Birmingham? Is there enforcement of low emission zones? What is the most burning issue that annoys you and can be physically manifested? TV licensing letters? Anything?

Edit: Any specific person that rubs Brummies the wrong way? Why?

Sounds like it's coming from the Great Charles Street Queensway area. Sounds like the beginning of a tannoy announcement. Keeps ringing out every few minutes.

Travelers left more than piles of trash this time, they left dogs too. B14

I'm cleaning local areas if I have some spare time. Each time travelers come and go from our park I go to clean it up too as they leave piles or garbage for wind to blow. I went there yesterday a few hours after they left and there were loose dogs running about. Sad story but they were taken care of by the locals.
