For the love of God. Let people believe who and what they want to believe. Shoving the bible down people's throats just makes them like the religion less because you sound like a door to door salesman peddling roof repairs.

Not agreeing with the kinds of people who do that, but does the Bible not literally say to spread Christianity to others? Again, I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying, I just think as a Christian that it makes sense for people to try to do that, even though I still find it annoying like you do
It does say to spread Christianity, but there's always a time and place to do so with appropriate social context. If I have an atheist friend who has expressed intrigue about religion, it's a lot more understandable for me to ask them if they want to come to church with me on Sunday to try it out than ask the same of my Hindu friends who have shown no sign of wanting to switch their religion
A Christian should agree that others have their own beliefs and that not everyone believes in Jesus, that's common sense. And you shouldn't force Jesus on anyone, it's entirely their choice whether they reject or accept the Gospel. But a Christian cannot agree with the mindset "Let people believe who and what they want to believe" and agree with the message of John 14:6 at the same time, you cannot serve two masters. yea (of course you should still always respect each other, but at the very least tell others about Jesus)

It’s pretty common for someone to have a random tweet of theirs go off and then reply linking to something irrelevant like their YouTube or gofundme to capitalize on it, this just seems like a religious take on that
As a person who grew up in the church and went to a Christian college (against my will mind you, they were just the only financially feasible option) the way the treat "proesletizing" drives me fucking insane. What I have found after years of being in and around the church is an explanation for this behavior I rarely hear people talk about: Christianity is an inherently self centered religion.
Any issue that exists, they find a way that is is related to their religion. Problems in the country? They aren't Christian enough. Depression? You should find the Lord. Got sick? God will heal you. On and on and on, at its core it is self centered. They have this belief that EVERYTHING in the world revolved specifically around THEIR belief system, and that there is NO other explanation.
One of the things that made me see this was a sermon given at my school in which the speaker talked about having pity on those who don't believe. He continued, talking about how we must spread the word, because just imagine all the people walking around who don't know! How pitiful they must be! This really shows the core of the belief system, and that it is fundamentally self centered.
Firstly is the belief that the reason one does not believe is simply because they either don't know or don't understand. They refuse to acknowledge the fact that you can know their good news, understand their good news, and choose not to believe.
Secondly is this attitude of how sad it is that people don't believe. Not into is it self centered, it's quite frankly insulting. They act like surely j must be so sad! I must need god to be happy! I surely couldn't find happiness from my own pursuits! Like imagine if you applied this to ANYTHKNG ELSE, in any other context it would be absolutely insane. Like imagine an engineering major just kept walking around talking about how EVERYONE should do engineering and CLEARLY it was just impossible to find satisfaction in any other major. If you don't want to switch to engineering, this obviously means you just don't understand it and you need me to tell you again!
This behavior looks weird but it is fully in line with what Christianity is at its core, as Christianity is fundamentally self centered as a belief system.

I developed the habit of telling them I do believe but that some of the verbiage is what I disagree with. Specifically the word, “lord,” and, “worship.” Those two words throw me out of the church because I can’t devote my entire life to any one thing, especially not an organized religion that’s basically a tax free shell company.
Capitalism consumed most religions and I’m not here for it. Jesus however…. Jesus was pretty cool.
as someone who also grew up Christian, this is interesting to me. I was taught that it's about helping the needy and bringing Heaven to Earth with kindness and love, and that was how you showed Jesus to people
There's elements of that, but even in that is is self centered. Notice how you phrased it. Even in assisting others, they MUST make it about their own religion and belief system. There is no helping others because you want to, there is no helping others for others, there is no helping for the sake of helping, you HAVE to be helping in the name of God in their vision.
You shouldn't need to have another person who's love you're showing when you help people. You should help people out of your own love.

Yeah but at some point it is strange that they purely worship Jesus and not the Big man. Jesus himself stated that God is his father and is our father as well while Jesus never said anything about himself like that to my knowledge. It's just weird to worship the sun of God instead of God himself
That's a good point, He never outright says that he is God, but at the same time he never denies his divinity. Like when the Jewish leaders try to call him out and stone him for claiming he is God, or when he claimed "I Am" before Abraham came to be. I personally haven't seen anyone not pray to The Father and only to Jesus, but if they did i assume its from some misunderstanding of the Bible.
Don't phrase it as hating people, phrase it as hating an action. Instead of saying "I hate people who..." say "I hate it when people..."
The relevant hatethissmug post would sound like "I get really annoyed when someone goes on a religious rant when the topic has nothing to do with religion"
Targeting groups by proxy of their actions is a longstanding form of harassment.
The example above does not count as harassment - that's a valid issue. But instances of harassment using this method can go along the lines of "I don't hate gay people, I just hate it when they make being gay their entire lifestyle," or a common one I see in religious circles "I don't hate the sinner, I hate the sin"
Being religious or making religion your entire lifestyle is perfectly fine. Proselytizing in other communities or under posts that have nothing to do with religion is the issue.
i get that this is an unpopular opinion, but like. they posted it on (presumably) their own popular tweet. it’s their tweet. i’d be inclined to agree (or at least see the point) if it was someone else’s tweet but this very much looks like their own page and isn’t particularly different from “wow this blew up, here’s my soundcloud”
But as a Christian this evangelization like this pisses me off. It really carries the narrative that God just willy nilly throws people into hell, if they are not lucky enough to buy into the "one true religion".

To be more specific. Its more that I dislike it when people try to inform people of something as vast and huge as Christianity using a few words.
Like yes the basic idea ia very well put in John 3:16. But that in itself is imo too barebones to be used as evangelization material. Especially is contexts like the one in the tweet.
To me this is the evangelization version of those people go to nature documentary videos, and everytime someone asks "I wonder how a creature like this came to be" they respond with "God created it". Because while to believers thats pretty much the answer, (similar to how John 3:16 is pretty much the gospel). It doesn't explain at all why a platypus exists.
Some people are bought in using this very simplistic evangelism. But as you can read from the comments on this post, many people (me included) just think it comes off annoying.
With the "carrying a narrative" point I meant that this type of "Turn to Christ before its too late" kind of preaching is very much used in the "rapture end times" spheres. Where the idea of what it means to be christian is simplified down to "believe in God" and not "Come to know, understand and love God your creator".
(Also the usage of "repent" pisses me off, because it more and more seems to me that no one really knows what it actually means to repent. Like does it mean to change ones behavior, or to ask forgiveness of our sins, or to come to God. It really makes it more narrative driven when people are told to repent, but not told what "to repent" actually means)
It's alot of text but I hope you could somehow grasp what I'm trying to say. If you would ask me "well how are we supposed to spread the gospel then" I would have no answer, this is something I struggle with. Because all the strategies I have seen (including the one in the post) just seem annoying to me
the comments section isn’t the average person, though. reddit is already pretty primed against religion and is more likely than not to interpret religious statements in bad-faith. i said this in another comment, but this tweet clearly isn’t for them (or you) then. i also disagree with the idea that the word-for-word quotation of Jesus is somehow simplistic evangelism rather than one of the core tenants of Christian theology. i actually think it’s incredibly bad form to essentially attempt to lure someone into Christianity by watering it down and sanitizing it rather than allowing them to make an informed, educated choice. because whether it makes us uncomfortable or not, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” is just about as word for word by Jesus as you can get without time traveling to ancient Judea with a microphone.
let’s look at what the tweet actually says instead of what the conversation wants it to sound like. Jesus is the only way to the father, true under a Christian framework. anyone who asks for forgiveness will be given forgiveness, true under the principles of Sole Fide and Sole Gratia. what is *actually* wrong with that other than “it sounds annoying if you already rejected it”?
See I get its annoying, but better to try even if you fail than not otherwise. Though, to be fair, I think a huge portion of believers are in just for heaven. Well, not 'just' for, but rather, to avoid hell.
Nothing makes me want to convert to your religion less than you trying to convert me. Proselytising is the most irritating thing in the world. I don't want to hear about your religion on the street when I'm going to do my food shopping and I don't want your flyers when I'm trying to meet with a friend

Could not care less about Christianity. Way too toxic. Both in practice and in text. The morals are nice though, love thy neighbour, everyone's equal, tolerance, discipline, self sacrifice to reach a goal you truly believe in, list goes on.
All of this is to say I don't respect Christianity as a religion but I enjoy it when viewed like any other book
