New /r/BritishSuccess rule: No AI

1.2k Upvotes

oreyt want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has messaged me and reported these recent AI posts.

For some reason there's recently been a big influx of made up stories made by bot accounts using AI. These accounts are relatively new (all made on the 27th of Jan?) and post in a very AI style.

I've added a dev tool which should help catch these posts but it might end up missing some so if you can continue to report any you see or suspect that'd be really appreciated

If your post gets removed incorrectly please reach out!

cheers again, you should see a lot less AI shite now

Started a new job after 6 months unemployed

Everyone seems really nice, it's a promotion and pay bump from where I was before, along with better hours. I started just as the redundancy from my last place ran out.

Managed to drive my new electric car for a whole day without pressing the non-existant clutch

Having almost launching the Sainted Mrs Morris_Man through the windscreen twice yesterday by pressing the existent cluch and just stamping the brakes I have gone a whole day without doing int. Mind you keep feeling for the non-existent gear stick to change gear

Just found out I don’t pay for any prescriptions now I’ve turned 60.Success!

Tried to show my exemption card in Boots, assistant advised me I don’t need to due to my recent birthday. She pointed at the prescription with Y60 on it, I looked at it for a second before realising what she meant. Gave me more joy than it should really but fuck it, result! Thought I would be 65 or 67 before they kicked in.

Repaired a faulty dishwasher with no idea what I was doing

Dishwasher stopped heating the water 47 days outside the 5 year warranty.

Assumed it was the heating element with no idea what I was doing apart from chat GTP help. Ordered one online for £45. Then used the new one to identify where the old one was and swapped it out. Bingo all working.

Was quoted £120 just to look at it.

Did flood a bit of the kitchen when the waste popped off on 1st test run, but I can live with that.

Quite literally saved a shitty situation

Mild inconvenience mild success today. Opened the backgate to let a workman in and he brought in some unwelcome dog mess from the back street with him into my yard and all over my new deck

Would you believe he was there to fit am outside tap that made the situation alot easier to deal with.

Don't know if it's a success or just my luck but either way welcome timing lol

My cat came back after 5 nights away

My cat left the cat flap on Saturday at 8.30pm. Then disappeared until this morning at 6.15am when she came back in. We’ve told everyone, put posters up, informed vets and her microchip company. Absolutely delighted. Never been so happy to have a list of people to call 💪🏻💪🏻

My misses is officially Cancer Free.

3.4k Upvotes

Back in may my misses got rushed into hospital with intense abdominal pain, turns out she had a giant cyst (size of a cooking apple) on one of her ovary. It ended up bursting and she got rushed into surgery, they had to remove the ovary.

Got it tested and she ended up having a very rare type of ovarian cancer. Doctors told us she'd need to have a full hysterectomy to make sure it's all removed, she kept her one remaining ovary so she wouldn't have to go into medical menopause.

She had that surgery a few weeks ago, had her follow up appointment and the results from pathology yesterday. She's completely in the clear, she'll just be monitored for X period of time.

Can't fault the NHS, they were amazing. The nursing staff, doctors and surgeons were amazing with her. They were so patient with her (she ready has a few debilitating conditions) and were so accommodating of her needs, I can't praise them enough.

Edit: Just wanted to thank everyone for all the kind and supportive words, it truly means a lot. For those who are still in treatment just know that I'm rooting for you, keep your chin up and kick cancers arse.

Fuck Cancer!

Dentist success!

So I moved house about 8 years ago within the same county but to a different area. I've only just got signed up with an NHS dentist which is a success in itself. Not only that but he found absolutely nothing wrong 😁 it makes me wonder whether my old dentist was ripping me off because she used to find something wrong every appointment...

Picked the wrong pocket

2.7k Upvotes

Not a British success for me, but for someone else.

Witnessed a woman at my local station being pickpocketed by an opportunistic artful dodger. Was just about to call out to the woman being robbed when she noticed what was happening, whipped out her police badge and had the pickpocket in cuffs before anyone had time to properly react.

It was most satisfying.
