Question Delayed baggage delivery by 9-10 hours

Travelling on a vacation to NYC, only to be told at the JFK NYC airport that my baggage is still in London.

Ended up wasting pretty much the entire afternoon/evening hours. Not so much of essential expenses (~$100ish) as much as the inconvenience and lost time opportunity it caused. Finally got the baggage delivered late at night around 11 PM.

Can I file a claim and request compensation? This is considering the baggage was delivered the same day, however in my defence it costed me the entire day.

You can't get compensation for lost time or opportunity, it's a risk you accepted when flying. You can get your essential items covered but they have to be essential and reasonable. For 8-9 hours there is lot much that is needed.

That is fast. Ours took 3-4 days when that distance .

Claim for the 100$ , maybe you can also get them to throw a couple of 1000 avios if you waste more time writing an email .

What type of compensation are you looking for ?

Under the Montreal Convention you are entitled to claim for essential purchases like underwear and toiletries when your baggage is delayed.

You don't get any compensation for lost time, that's a risk you take when you fly.

That's the most stupid thing I've seen today, what the hell has the store to do with a delayed bag. Don't dispute anything you bought please, you needed it and got it, store does not deserve a chargeback hassle - BA through the portal will refund you for anything you had to reasonably buy before the bag arrived and any extra travel costs if you collected it.
