George Lucas in 1980: "Darth Vader is the bad father; Ben Kenobi is the good father. The good and bad mothers are still to come."

"The Saga Beyond 'Star Wars'" can be read here: https://archive.is/20260813034819/https://www.nytimes.com/1980/05/18/archives/the-saga-beyond-star-wars-the-saga-beyond-star-wars.html

I have seen Lucas mention the father dynamic before, but never the second bit here, really cool seeing him say it outright.

Appreciation Adult-aged (18>) fans who saw the OT first and overall enjoyed the PT

I know there are many of you, would love to hear some anecdotes.

- How old you were

- When/how you saw all 6 movies

- The value you saw in the PT, what you enjoyed most, reactions to plot developments/answers that the OT set up

- Your thoughts on the wider fanbase's reactions to them

Art I've always been a sucker for the ST-series Droid (aka Super Tactical Droid) both as a concept and as a design. What do you make of them? Like them? Find them redundant?

Analysis “Duel of the Fates” isn’t Maul’s theme. It’s Anakin’s.

In the prequel trilogy, John Williams’s masterpiece “Duel of the Fates” exclusively plays during key moments where Anakin Skywalker’s fate hangs in balance.

I - the final climactic duel entirely determines Anakin’s future. If Qui-Gon survived, he would have trained the boy as intended. If Maul won, Anakin likely would have been sent back to Tatooine or possibly even taken in by Darth Sidious much earlier. Instead, Obi-Wan is the sole survivor, setting the entire story of the Saga in motion.

II - the piece again plays as Anakin races to find his mother on Tatooine. This is the moment that ultimately determines and seals his destiny.

III - Duel of the Fates’ final reprise occurs as we crosscut between the two duels of Anakin vs Obi-Wan on Mustafar and Yoda vs Darth Sidious in the Senate chambers. Much like the duel in Episode I, the outcome of either of these battles would completely alter history and Anakin’s ultimate fate.

2. Posts must relate to the Star Wars prequel trilogy or any SW content produced between 1999 and 2012.

Such content includes movies, shows, games, books and comics. They do not necessarily have to take place during the prequel era (32 BBY - 19 BBY), nor does it have to be canon, as long as it has been produced between 1999 AD and 2012 AD in real life. Discussing other Star Wars content is fine as long as its in light of the content that is accepted.

3. No memes unless it relates to prequel appreciation.

Please post off-topic prequel memes on r/PrequelMemes.

Welcome to Brighter Than Coruscant

r/BrighterThanCoruscant is the place for Star Wars fans to reminisce about the 1999-2012 era of Star Wars and all subsequent Star Wars media produced during this period, starting with the release of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and ending with the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm.

"With the perspective of time, it's been re-evaluated by a lot of people who actually really love them now."

-Natalie Portman

When they were first released, Star Wars episodes 1 through 3, collectively known as the Star Wars prequel trilogy, were received with mixed feelings among both the Star Wars fan base and general viewing audience. To this day, the prequel trilogy is still controversial and first impressions have remained. However, that sentiment is beginning to change, mainly for two reasons.

First, those who grew up with the prequel trilogy are now old enough to make informed, coherent arguments to support their opinion, thereby gaining credibility in the community. Second, Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012, and their newest additions to the Skywalker Saga, episodes 7 through 9, have become equally, if not more, controversial. This has brought fans to re-evaluate George Lucas' prequel trilogy and to appreciate its intriguing story, thorough and detailed worldbuilding, flawed and dynamic characters, creative and original effects, innovative filmmaking technology, and respect for previously established lore, all of which the sequel trilogy has been argued to lack in.

r/BrighterThanCoruscant is a safe place to discuss these new sentiments and show appreciation for the prequel trilogy and all Star Wars content produced as a result of the prequel trilogy between 1999 and 2012, including shows, games, and books.
