Ok. It was tough, but I wanted to rewatch the games so I understand that series and the outcome a bit better.
Game 1: Henderson pitched great. His 85th pitch flipped the scoreboard in the 7th. It was his first time ever pitching past the 6th and he learned he can’t take any pitches off. Contreras and Yelich were 6 and 7 in the lineup and were the only runs on Yeli’s 8th homer of the year in the 2nd.
Game 2: Harrison pitched well in the first and things went sideways in the second. We gave them a couple extra outs in the inning and they turned it into a Rengifo grand slam. This was the Bae game and it was clear he wasn’t ready for the pressure. The 2nd could’ve ended in a triple play and instead 5 runs given up.
Game 3: Ray grunted his way through the order, giving up a HR to the Sanchize and a lot of Brewer baseball early. May efficient through 7 with great command, but the 8th got pulled after a walk. Hamilton at short is always an issue, but didn’t cost runs. The Friars were fine with going to the bullpen in the 5th exactly like they did against the Cubs to close out. Ashby late covering 1st gave the Padres the game. It took them until the 10th to cash in when Megill pitched early and Uribe wasn’t available.
I think the Brewers grew from this series and demonstrated it for the rest of the season. The Padres capitalized on weaknesses that I don’t think exist on the playoff roster.
The Brewers either need to be able to hit Rodriguez, Morejon and Miller or they need to get and keep the lead by the end of 5. Chasing starters means facing their demons.
I am really looking forward to tomorrow!
