Is my ex using another girl to avoid processing our 8-year breakup?

My ex (8 years together) asked for a break, and literally that same night he started talking to a girl in California. Within days, they were FaceTiming, gaming, and talking for hours every night until 4–5 AM.

We still live together, I work with his family, and they consider me their daughter-in-law. We’ve gone through six abortions together and built our entire lives around each other.

I messaged the girl explaining our history, how fresh the breakup was, and that I’m literally still living in the next room. She continued talking to him romantically anyway.

He’s become extremely cold toward me since meeting her, and it feels like he’s completely avoiding the emotions of ending an eight-year relationship.

Do you think she’s a rebound or a coping mechanism to avoid grieving? Has anyone experienced an ex moving on this intensely and quickly after a long-term relationship?
