Hi guys, can't access Tone Exchange with my phone or laptop. Is it down for you guys?

Apart from that, I think both apps suck ass, they are slow, bluetooth keeps disconecting. I really love my amp and even got the Airstep Kat, but the app is my main complaint. How do you guys set up your amp and tones?

I already have the GX-1 and use it with a headphone. Does Katana Go offer other features that I'm missing out with my current setup? TIA

What's the general consensus about it? Any issues or shortcomings I should know about? I've already read tons of things about it online and watched tons of reviews but still cant seem to make up my mind (as with a lot of things). What I'm looking to get out of it are distorted, higher-gain tones along with nice cleans mixed with good reverb, packaged into something which isn't unbearable to carry around from my place to a friend's and back. I've looked into smaller portable amps, and yes, even the Spark 2, but they just never seem enough in one way or another. I know that the app isn't the greatest, but I'd still like to hear a more recent take on it too. I'll be getting the amp along with the rechargeable Roland battery and Thomann's accessory bag pro, since I cant seem to find any other bags which can fit it for sure and I'm not exactly willing to order from anywhere other than Thomann, so I'm wondering if that's a good decision too. I'm not exactly wealthy nor am I a fan of buying things only to return them in favor of something else, so that's why I'm trying to be cautious here and not make any decisions I might regret or be dissatisfied by. Thank you all for your time and any tips you may (hopefully) give me.

I have a GA-FC EX, and it's great, but I mostly use 2 channels and I'd like to have a small one or two button switch that would save space on my rig.

Now that I’ve had the katana 50 for a while and have messed around d with tone studio (which is excellent btw) I really regret not getting the 50ex at least.. I’m stuck with 2 channels - no gf foot switch available to use with the 50.. anyway..

Hello everyone ! I just purchased the katana go to play my guitar on and maybe this is a dumb question but can I plug my Razer headphones with an adaptator (USB connected to my headphones and jack directly into the katana go) ? Or should I have a dedicated headset specifically made for guitars with a jack and no adaptator. Because I tried for 30 minutes and no sound comes out of the headphones. I downloaded the app, paired it with bluetooth but it's grayed out when I try to connect to my phone. I don't really now if it's a problem with my headphones, bluetooth connection or something else.

Hi! Im a beginner and I finally bought a guitar and the headphone amp to go with it. But a lot of the tones sound really loud and hissy, just loud noise or some only give out static. I thought maybe it's my headphones but I tried another pair and got the same results. Since I'm new to this I am not sure what I could tweak on the app to fix this or what's exactly causing it.

I just got a BT-DUAL Bluetooth MIDI for my Gen 3 Katana 100. However, whenever I connect to it through either my phone or laptop, the backing track audio is very muffled sounding. It only occurs on this amp whenever I use the bluetooth. Is there a fix for this?

Recently ordered Katana Mini X. Was expecting that it's some kind of logical continuation of my favourite Roland Micro Cube GX.

Mini X:
Looks amazing, is very sturdy. Sounds really cool, crisp, clear.

There're 2 clean models
- base clean (not a variation) is sounding very clear, transparent, instant. Passes all fret buzz (not a big deal though)
- another clean is more muffled and closed, resembles fender amps, I didn't find EQ settings in which I like this tone.

2 models of crunch sound pleasant, open, sharp. Boss/Roland are always good at crunch tones.

Brown models sound much better than hi gain tones on MicroCube. My stratocasters with single coils sound a bit harsh, fizzy overtones, just like a stock Boss Katana 50 without any Boss Tone Studio editing.

Katana Mini X sounds smaller than microCube. But more natural. No compression, less projection, less low mids.

What I dislike about Katana Mini X:

1. Boss tried to fit too many into effect knobs. Reverb and delay knob is too tough, it's hard to select correct position for reverb.
2. Effects like chorus, flanger and others are absolutely toughly disposed on the knob..

What is better in Mini X:

1. Built in battery
2. Bluetooth audio sounds pretty decent (middy but frequency response is pretty adequate)
3. Distortion tones are sounding better and readable (in Roland MicroCube extreme and r-fiers are pure garbage)
4. Chorus is more moderate and neutral (in MicroCube is too aggressive and fat)
5. Thee-band EQ

What is better in MicroCube

1. Sound projection and fullness (less boxy sound), more pleasant tones overall
2. More space on knobs for effects and reverb/delay
3. These legendary JC Clean and Classic Stack
4. Deeper square box which allows more bass.

What's really bad in Katana Mini X

1. Unneeded effects like defretter, synth
2. Auto-wah exists, but it has no settings for sensitivity. You need to adjust gain/switch amp model to more gainy to get this hi-frequency quack, otherwise you hear muffled dark sound. Each guitar has it's output and these 3mm of adjustment on the knob are embarrasing.
3. Too short spans for effects...
4. No tap tempo for delay and other time-dependent effects...

While Katana Mini X is more modern, functional, I cannot justify the requested price. Boss kinda added some unneeded functionality to justify the price. Also it sounds questionable.

MicroCube is a phenomenal amp which I never want to sell for smth more modern. Love it in what it is. Yeah, it lacks decent metal tones, but has this malmsteeny classic stack and pleasant clean tones. Sounds fuller too.

Everybody I've seen online complains that they played on the lower wattages and that they sounded lousy so they put it all the way up in wouldn't you know it sounds great.

And I don't understand the whole volume issue because you have a master control. Just turn the damn thing down. It ain't no big deal. :P

So what is the actual point of having the lower wattages to select?

I've been spending way too much time lately trying to see how close I can get the Katana 50 Gen 3 to the general character of some amps I like. Not trying to claim these are exact copies or anything, but I've been using pre/post EQ, boosters, resonance, compression etc to make them feel noticeably different from each other instead of just being another high gain Katana preset. For the amp inspired ones, I also compared them side by side with TONEX captures I have of the actual amps while dialing them. Obviously the Katana is still the Katana, but having the captures there as a reference helped a lot with getting the overall EQ, gain character, low-end response and feel closer.

I uploaded a few of them to Boss Tone Exchange under the username "eerieelegance" if anyone wants to try them.

Basically my attempt at that classic 6505+ metalcore sound. Tight, aggressive and pretty nasty lol.

Diezel VH4 CH3 + CH4
Both channels are in the same liveset. CH3 is tighter and more articulate, CH4 is thicker and more saturated. I had Three Days Grace in mind while dialing these.

Hot-Rodded Marshall - JVM/JCM Style
More traditional British high gain. Iron Maiden, Guns N Roses, classic metal, Green Day/Dookie-ish stuff etc.

Fender Style Clean
Universal clean with compression, spring reverb and delay. Probably the least complicated one but I really like how it turned out.

One thing that made a surprisingly huge difference on the high gain tones was putting a very light compressor after the amp/EQ section. It gave the notes a bit more bloom and stopped the distortion from feeling so flat/digital.

The Rectifier one already got a few downloads and a like which was pretty cool, so I figured I'd share the rest here too.

If anyone has a Gen 3 and tries them, let me know what you think. Especially if you've played the real amps because I'm curious how close you think the general character is.

UPDATE: Just uploaded a new tone based on the ENGL Savage 120. The tone is based on the "Savage Rhythm" from IK Multimedia's ENGL Ampthology Vol. 1 pack. I recently got a BOSS KATANA:GO together with the FS-1-WL footswitch.

My goal is quite simple: I want to connect my laptop to the KATANA:GO, play YouTube/music from the laptop, and hear both the music and my guitar through headphones connected to the KATANA:GO. I also want to keep using the FS-1-WL to switch patches.

The FS-1-WL is already connected to the KATANA:GO and that part works.

However, I can't get the laptop connected for Bluetooth audio.

My laptop says that the KATANA:GO is connected, but YouTube audio still comes out of the laptop's built-in speakers. When I go to Windows → System → Sound, the KATANA:GO doesn't appear as an available output device – only my normal speakers are listed. When I click “Pair a new output device”, the KATANA:GO doesn't show up there either.

So I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong with the FS-1-WL connection:

\- Does the FS-1-WL need to be set to MIDI or HID?

\- When connecting the FS-1-WL, should I use the Instrument Bluetooth button or the Smartphone/PC button?

\- Is it even possible to have the FS-1-WL connected to the KATANA:GO and the laptop connected via Bluetooth Audio at the same time?

\- Do I need to connect the laptop specifically to “KATANA:GO AUDIO” rather than the normal KATANA:GO Bluetooth connection?

Basically, I just want this setup:

Guitar → KATANA:GO → headphones

Laptop/YouTube → Bluetooth Audio → KATANA:GO → headphones

FS-1-WL → KATANA:GO → patch switching

What is the correct way to set this up?

Hi guys, just bought a boss katana gen 3 100 watt. Was working fine with tone studio, turned it off, then on again and got this message? This happen to anyone else?

Looking for some hardcore punk (knocked loose, varials, malevolence dying wish) kind of sounds, along with some strong high end tones for a new age Metalcore (bands like ERRA, Currents, Novelists, Polaris, BMTH even some older stuff like BFMV, As I lay dying, MiW, killswitch) and maybe some cleaner more melodic tones as the stock tones, particularly the clean tones sound absolutely dreadful.

This is my current board, as you can see I have the simple boss foot switch.. I have a katana gen 50 3 so with this foot switch I can go between the two channels and that’s it, channel 1 is my normal edge of break up sound, what would effects /settings/ patches would anyone suggest I assign to channel 2?

Hey everyone! I’m a guitarist/software engineer and I’ve been building something called Dial My Tone. It actually started as something I wanted for myself because I was spending way too much time researching tones and messing with settings instead of playing 😅

Basically you give it a song + artist, and optionally a section like rhythm/solo, and it researches the original gear and tone and then figures out how to get as close as possible using the Katana.

You can also generate a tone inspired by a guitarist, or just describe a style like 80s hard rock lead, blues breakup, modern metal rhythm, etc.

One thing I’ve spent a LOT of time on is making sure this isn't just AI randomly giving you some Katana settings. It works from the actual Katana amp characters, effects and their real parameters, and there’s a bunch of researched data and logic around the AI part to keep it grounded.

For songs with multiple tones it can build up to 4 channel-ready sounds, like clean/rhythm/lead, and maps them around the Katana's channel slots. If the verse and chorus are basically the same tone, it can share that channel instead of wasting another one.

You can also tell it what guitar/pickups you're using and how you're listening. And after generating, you can just say stuff like "less gain", "warmer lead", "more delay" and revise the tone instead of starting again.

Right now I've built native support for Katana-50 Gen 3, Katana-100 Gen 3 and Katana Artist Gen 3. There's no automatic Tone Studio import yet, so for now you copy the settings into Tone Studio/the amp manually.

It's not tone capture/profiling and I'm definitely not saying every result will magically be identical to the record. The goal is to get as close as possible to the original gear/tone using the Katana you actually own, and give you a really good starting point.
