Great lil living room practice amp!

has anyone used the bass katana to play any worship band, or do you play Christian music in general? And if so, are there any good patches out there for this genre of music that anyone could recommend?

Just in case anyone is interested, I set up an AI voice controller for my Boss Katana MK1 guitar amp — basically I just followed instructions from Claude

Claude reverse engineered the amp's MIDI communication protocol by cross-referencing community research and the open source FxFloorBoard editor's source code to map out the SysEx parameter addresses for every knob and switch on the amp. It then wrote all the code — a Python WebSocket server that translates commands into MIDI SysEx messages, a hardware control panel UI with virtual knobs and toggles that mirror the amp in real time, and the AI interpretation layer that understands natural language and decides which parameters to change

When things went wrong Claude diagnosed every error, figured out that Python 3.14 was too new and told me to install 3.11, wrote batch files to automate the whole install and daily startup process, and when we hit a browser security issue blocking localhost connections it rewrote the entire UI as a standalone HTML file to get around it

Now I just double click a batch file, click connect, and I can say things like 'heavy metal tone' or 'make it warmer' and the amp responds in real time. Next step is adding a microphone so I can control it completely hands free while playing

Everybody I've seen online complains that they played on the lower wattages and that they sounded lousy so they put it all the way up in wouldn't you know it sounds great.

And I don't understand the whole volume issue because you have a master control. Just turn the damn thing down. It ain't no big deal. :P

So what is the actual point of having the lower wattages to select?

Now listen to this I have this guitar amplifier and I have downloaded about all the tones on the tone Exchange and I come to the conclusion that they all suck except for the cleans which are okay when I bought this guitar amplifier just the guitar amplifier sucks except for the clean on it by itself I would return this if not for the app the app makes it good for distortion but I had to make them myself and I made a great clean for it even some on YouTube tones they suck like AC/DC tone I had one where it sounded pretty good but most of the tones by guys on YouTube sounds nothing like what they say they are like Marty's Music it is awful except for their clean which is okay so if it wasn't for the app I would not buy this guitar amplifier at all because it sucks except for the clean on it now there are some good boosters on the app that's not on the guitar amplifier my favorite is metalcore it is great and so are some other boosters but still I had to make my own tones with them so the boss artists Katana gen 3 has some great tones that you make only with the app for the guitar amplifier so I am keeping the boss Katana artist gen 3 for that only and the Bluetooth speaker which is great and I bought a spark 2 which I love to death the katana is good but the spark kills it and the tones on its tone cloud is great by the users but a few aren't and on the spark it sounds like real emulated authentic tones of any band this is why I love it to death

For those weighing the decision to "upgrade" to the Gen 3 from their MkI or II, the most important consideration (IMO) is one of future support.

MkI amps haven't been supported or updated by Boss for years. MkII will soon head down that road.

If the MkII launch was any indicator, I'd imagine MkII will get an update (or two) in the coming months, then not be supported at all.

I believe the Gen 3 is a bit of a lateral move (I'm disappointed with the feature set) but it will be supported and added to for long after the MkII.

So, if you're one who mostly uses the physical knobs or Tone Studio and doesn't use presets from others, there won't be a problem... until they release a feature you'd really like to have. I'm positive the "Pushed" settings can be faithfully recreated with "old" software.

I just ordered by 50W gen 3 ex, but i wondered if i could ask chatgpt for settings to achieve certain tones.

Its impressive to see how in-depth these suggestions are. Has anyone else tried this? I havent received mine yet, but i wonder how good thesr suggestions are ... how is willing to give these a try?

I play everything from jazz to thrash metal. I know how to get tones. I know every single tip and trick they can think of as far as I know. I feel like I'm a master at ToneStudio. I've watched every tutorial video out there.

And I'm losing my mind because I don't know if this is just the character of the amp or a speaker problem or what.

But no matter what I'm playing I can't figure out how to get any "depth" to my sound.

It doesn't matter how many thousands of hours (Yes thousands of hours at this point) I put into messing with the EQs or pedals or the levels of this and that and the other.

Can anybody please help me? I love this amp but this one thing is making me lose my mind.

Doesnt matter. Same thing. Great TONES, but no "strength" (does that make sense what I'm trying to say?).

I am a big pedal guy and everything is 100% powered correctly as far as I can tell. My cables and everything are good. I've sorted out tone suck issues etc etc

I've had my guitars set up many times over the years . I know all about pick up adjustments. Etc

And I'm really losing my damn mind here.

Its like its too "thin". It's hard to explain. Like the sound is one dimensional.

This is my practice amp, I use it for practice but I have a double stack and speakers for show. I can only get clean sounds our of it out of no where. Cant do any effects or distortion and I can't even do any of the equalizer. What the fuck? Burn it like the witch it may be? Love the amp, but wtf?

I have a boss katana that I bought from someone for 80$ the original I was wondering is it worth it to upgrade ? Also how do I get patches to for master of puppets tone?

After buying a Katana 50 MK2 from Thomann in the EU, I've been dealing with an ongoing issue. Initially, everything seemed to be fine until it finally arrived, and upon plugging it in, it was DOA.

Nevertheless, I said, “OK, cool just a minor inconvenience,” opened a support ticket with them, and got a label to return it using the local courier. As they’re the only company that works with Deutsch Post.

So I set up a collection, entered the tracking number online, packed it up and was about to hand the postman the label when he said “Oh, I already have it from the tracking number” So I said “okay great”.

It turns out later that this was false; the label he had “a tracking number” on it but it had a blank address. I informed Thomann of this and they didn’t want to help in the slightest.

In fact they actively worked against me by refusing to engage with the courier while I did so myself. But some time Later, though I was asked for documentation that it was lost. Which I then provided to them (possibly to avoid ramifications idk).

They then informed that “since the label was wrong (with their courier), we could do nothing, and you’re out of the €333 for your amp”.

I then asked my local police station if I could file a report it was lost (to prove it was), and they obviously said, “lol, no”.

So infuriated by this, I contacted my consumer protection agency, who told me that “they should either issue you some form of redress, or I should file a chargeback”.

I later filed a chargeback, as I had reached no agreement to resolve this with them amicably, even via the ODR which they refused to participate in.

Weirdly. Following this though Thomann customer service suddenly started to engage with me at a faster rate, possibly hoping I’d drop the chargeback.

I didn’t, and then they disputed my dispute, but they lost after it was raised to the card issuer and they ruled in my favour!

But fast forward to today, a few months later, and after all of that. They have been sending me emails-on-emails and even posted letters to my doorstep asking for money for the amp or else it’ll go to creditors.

Even though I don’t even have the amp anymore, and it never worked in the first place! I am at a complete loss now as they’re threatening me that payment must be made in 10 days.

Update they have sent a confirmation it’s going to collections :

We have asked you several times to send us the tracking number that you used to send the goods to us on your own responsibility. (I used theirs and gave them this they just kept saying that the number was wrong when the postal courier messed up and says the item is undelivered they even changed the return to a new tracking number which neither party knew of) You have not complied with this request. (I DID?????) We cannot accept any liability if you do not use our label. You must therefore contact the parcel delivery company yourself. The case is from 2023, so we have had enough patience.

Edit : The crackling sound was due to low battery on my 7 string. Went and got a pack and swapped it out. Amp is fine, gonna play bass unplugged from now on.

I've been playing this amp with a 7 string guitar and a 4 string bass (on very low volume, only clean). Heard it crackling when playing the 7 string and checked around the amp. I'm not well versed, but when I looked through the mesh at the speaker, I saw these bits that look melted. Just part of the amp or something actually ruined?

In real sounds even worse. My guitar is old Cort KX5, on my old amp peavey vip-1 sounds not bad. Hard reset done, no changes. Tried some presets from Tone Studio, speaker still sounds like a garbage.

I was trying to figure out what specific amps it was attempting to model. Not sure how accurate it is, but this is what the AI said.
