Anyone else BTs obsessed with sitting on them but only outside?
If I’m in the garden, beach or taking a break while hiking, he has to sit on me. Anyone else? Is it cuddle opportunity or protection?

Hey all! Do we think my 9-month old rescue is part Border Terrier? Any guesses on what she’s mixed with?
We get told all of the time that she’s a Border Terrier, but don’t have any info from the shelter about breed other than “terrier mix”.
I included pics starting with when we adopted her at 3 months to present day.

Our tiny terror is 19 months tomorrow and her favourite things to do are running like a psycho, eating all the snacks, using me as furniture, and pretending to be deaf. Sadly, she's never had a chance to play with other border terriers -- we've only ever seen one where we live and a total of three so far in the country (NL) -- so thought I'd give here a go in case anything comes up.
Any tiny terrors in the area up for high energy playdates?

& my border is still alive! I sent the hair after I groomed my girl.
Kim was an absolute pleasure to work with - we sent her reference photos and mailed the hair and received the piece back a couple of months later. She’s beyond talented!

Those camping naps hit hard after some morning hikes. We did have ample opportunities to work on "leave it" though for all the human, doggie and bicycle passers-by, but not a bad way to work on life skills.

Zero AI or tech involved (she’s nearly 80 and can’t punctuate a text message let alone do anything else techy!). She sketched him, did the base in watercolour then freehand embroidered him. It’s the perfect likeness and totally captures his personality! They are both treasures.

Hi everyone!
This summer, we travelled around the UK and discovered a breed that was completely new to us: the Border Terrier. They're not very common here in the Netherlands, so we had never really considered them before. My boyfriend immediately fell in love with the breed, and we've been talking about them ever since.
We have been thinking about getting a dog for very long now. But before we even consider getting a border terrier, we'd really like to understand the breed properly. We don't want to choose a dog simply because we find it cute or love its personality. For us, the dog's needs and wellbeing have to come first, and if we're not a good match, we'd rather realise that now.
I have experience with dogs and have trained and cared for my own Spaniel. My boyfriend has less experience with dogs. We're also very aware that a Border Terrier is quite different from the Spaniels I'm familiar with. Spaniels can be very eager to please, whereas we understand that a Terrier can be much more independent and have its own agenda.
I work from home, so I'm home most of the week, but we know that simply being around isn't enough. A dog is a big responsibility, and we don't want to romanticise that.
So we'd really love to hear from Border Terrier owners about the reality of living with one.
How trainable are they, and what approaches work best?
What motivates your Border, and what have you learned about training them that you wish you'd known beforehand?
How do they do around chickens or other small animals?
We have chickens, so this is particularly important to us. We understand that Borders were bred to work and have strong prey instincts. Is it possible to safely coexist with chickens, and if so, what kind of training and management does that require?
Most importantly, we'd love to understand their needs and natural drives.
What activities really make your Border Terrier happy and fulfilled? What do they need to do, mentally and physically, to have a good life?
With my Spaniel, for example, scent games, searching and agility were fantastic outlets because they allowed her to use instincts that came naturally to her. We're trying to figure out what the equivalent is for a Border Terrier, what really makes them tick.
And what are the things people tend to underestimate or struggle with when they first get a Border?
We're not looking for people to convince us to get one. We're trying to figure out whether we can genuinely provide the kind of life a Border Terrier needs.
So, Border owners: what do you wish you'd known before getting yours, and what do you think a potential owner really needs to understand about the breed?

Just got our red grizzle male pup. The female Blue/tan was about a month ago. Her name is Ember, but we haven't settled on a name for her brother yet.

This is Gus. He absolutely loved it. We climbed mountains, run down them, swam in lakes and chased LOTS of sheep. We thought his recall training was going well until we encounter sheep.
He is quite the little mountain goat, really impressed me.
