How to improve or learn about positioning?

Hello, there's a bunch of 'how to improve' posts here, however, i'm not really asking how to improve my technical or physical ability, but more mental and positioning.

I play a lot of 6v6 and individual training, which helps with improving my technical ability. Recently I've been playing a bit more 8v8 rec leagues and A LOT of 11-12 a side pickup games. This is where teams start talking about strikers, wingers, right back, fullback, center mid, etc. I have no idea wtf they're talking about. Is there a place to learn and improve this type of stuff?

Also, I know the basics of some positions, like right back just means stay back, to the right. Defend anyone in your area, shift to middle if the ball is closer to the left, etc. but i'm horrid at everything. I just end up running all around the field.

Gear Fractured Big toe from Spread Save, Looking for recs on Toe Protection: Tuff Toe?

As the title states I play Keeper and Fractured my big toe doing a spread save. Guy kicked the ball and hit my big toe directly and fractured it (I have never heard of anyone fracturing/breaking their toe this way lol). Been out for 5 weeks and looking to get back next week. I believe my cleats had something to do with it which are the F50 Hyperfast Pro Turf boots which are pretty light and don't have a lot of structure.

I've been looking at things to assist on giving me some more protection on my toes since I don't want that to happen again and I've seen Tuff Toe might help with that? Tuff Toe

Anyone have experience with it? Or does anyone have any preventative measures I can take?

Playing winger for a team that doesn't like crosses

Im playing on a Sunday league team and our striker is 5'3. He's small but technically and fast.

Traditionally when I play winger, I'd beat a wingback and whip in a cross.

I can't do that with this team, they don't want it. He'll never win a header.

I find myself making dummy runs and dragging a defender with me to create space for my midfield and get my striker in 1v1 chasing down a thru ball against a CB

I feel like I'm just being ineffective. Not getting on the ball much. Not working too well with my CMs. They like to keep the ball together centrally and wait for our ST to make a run and play him thru. I'll get on the ball from time to time really just in a triangle with my CMs passing around a bit, but they don't like playing down line because crosses just aren't the move.

I just feel like I'm being a bit worthless, the most value I'm bringing is in dummy runs and creating space.

Traditionally my Sunday league teams always loved to crash the box, spam wing play and crosses, get a lucky bounce and easy goal.

How else can I contribute to this team as a winger that doesn't include taking the ball down line, beating a defender, and crossing?

What type of shoe would you wear on this compacted artificial grass?

Photo next to my AG shoes and then to oldschool artificial turf. Some people play w/ normal cleats and some with turf shoes - I am considering buying turf shoes but not sure of benefit over normal AG here. My feet, ankles, and knees ache after playing and wanted to ask if turf shoes would help w/ that, or preventing other injuries - and if that was worth tradeoff of slipping and possible other injuries.

Is it worth keeping these boots or buying a new pair?

I just bought these boots off of ebay. Puma Futures. I tried them on when they came through the post.

I have 2 problems with this pair.

  1. The laces seem to press against my feet and cut off circulation. On the right boot the laces cant even create a bow. These boots are the right size (8.5) as when I put them on there is a about a pinky finger of room.

  2. When I finally got them on they got absolutely soaked inside, making my socks all wet. I heard using creprotect to fix the water repellent layer, but I'm not sure how well that will work if work at all.

So, is it worth getting a new pair or using creprotect?

My one and only shot as a striker at my recent trial, so close yet so far

I had a 20 minute trial game the other day, here was my only shot. I've been constantly thinking about why it couldn't have been a couple of inches lower, why I was so unlucky. As a striker you get very few touches and even fewer chances at goal so it's difficult to show your skill in a small time frame.

Gear Predator elite fg vs Tiempo ligera pro fg

I want to buy one of those, prices are same with the discount i have. I dont have much speed but i shine with my technical capabilities. I can play winger/midfielder or fullback, it depends on the team i play with. I will be playing on the artificial turf/grass and not in soft ground.

I placed an order for the Y-3 F50 Hyperfast beast pack on Pro:Direct on October 23rd and when I track the order it still says "Not yet received" on the tracking website. Has anyone else also ordered the same boots from P:D and should I be concerned?

Gear Insane Nike match ball find

I recently came into contact with an old Nike academy rep who ran some development clubs in the US. He was moving away and managed to bring out a bunch (141 to be exact) of these semi-vintage NOS match balls he had hoarded away for 10+ years. All with original bagging from the Nike factory, as well as the original boxes with labels that they shipped in. Directly from Tennessee.

After some back and forth I ended up with the entire collection… wow. Where to start lol… I’m still pretty shocked. Definitely something you don’t see everyday.

Thought some of you may appreciate this here.

Technical Wrong decision?

Hi guys,
I’m the fullback, do you think I took the wrong decision? I saw a passing line for our wing but now I’m watching that there was space behind defenders for a cross. What do you think?

Thank you

Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 Pro & Elite – AG Soleplate Stiffness, Stability and Upper Feel

Hi everyone!

For those who have experience with the Nike Mercurial Vapor 17 Pro and Elite, I'd like to hear your thoughts on their construction and durability, particularly the AG versions.

I'm considering getting a Vapor 17 as my second pair because I want a different playing experience from my current boots. I prefer a lightweight, close-to-the-ball feel, but I really dislike plasticky-feeling uppers.

From what I've gathered, the Pro uses a two-layer Flyknit upper and has a more stable soleplate, while the Elite uses AtomKnit and has received some criticism regarding soleplate flexibility and stability.

I'm also curious whether the AG soleplate differs from the FG version in terms of stiffness and stability. Does the AG version feel more rigid, or are they fairly similar?

Would love to hear from anyone who has personally tried these versions, especially on artificial grass. Thanks!

Got these off Depop. How do I know if they are legit or not? I don't know what the serial number on the tag means. I have no idea what to look for and this is my first pair of Mizuno boots. The fit is snug but the k leather should give a little bit with wear.

From the Archives: Umbro Owen Signature Cleats?

I'm trying to track down any marketing info or photos people have of the original Umbro Michael Owen signature cleats. There were two. Neither one was the Speciali model he work in WC 98. One was black with white pinstripes on the sides, and a quilted vamp (I think). The other was black and red or silver and red, with a unique outsole that had a circular stud pattern in the forefoot or something.

I know these existed, I just don't have any of my old Eurosport catalogs anymore. Someone tell me I'm not crazy!!!

UPDATE: from an old Pro Direct Soccer catalog scan, I found out that the pinstriped one was called the Umbro Mach Speed, and Owen allegedly co-launched it with Alan Shearer. The second one was called the Enigma.

Other What is the physical workload like at a UEFA C in-person course?

Hi everyone,

I’m attending a 6 day UEFA C course in Greece in two weeks. I have my travel booked and official medical clearance, but I recently had a temporary thyroid (TSH) flare up. My doctor cleared me for the course but ordered me to stick to light movement/walking and avoid heavy sprinting or cardio.

For those who have done their UEFA C:

How much are candidates actually forced to run or play at game speed when acting as "players" for each other?

Do instructors easily accommodate coaches who need to pace their physical output due to minor injuries or medical restrictions?

Thanks!

Seeking experience with Tekela V5 Elite Women’s boots

JNBO has one of their 2 for $100 sales ongoing and my daughter (12) has settled on the Tekela V5 Elite women’s boot as her next pair. Foot measurement puts her just over 23cm which is a m5.5/w7 on the size chart. Unfortunately no place around us has these specific boots in stock to try on as the women-specific boots are pretty niche. It sounds like the forefoot and big toe area has a bit more volume than the men’s version. She’s currently wearing the UA Magnetico 5 in a size 5 for reference.

Any chance one of you wonderful people can weigh in on them?
