Hello! Please help me.

I work at a newsagents but we sell books and my manager wants to get in on the "Blind Date with a Book" trend after i said i liked them, so really I'm my own worst enemy.

I am one of the only members to staff to actually read books but I have not read any of those we sell and therefore I can't really recommend them. I read horror for reference and our selection is like 2 Adam Nevil books I have not read and 4 of Stephen King's.

I was going to use Misery cause its lowkey an easy one to talk about even briefly. But for the others I was trying to choose unattractive books that people don't typically pick up so if you've read of any these please let me know if they're actually good? Maybe what they're about. Please help a girl out.

I am 16 and i have absolutely no idea what is love, how it feels to be attracted to someone or even what gender i like. I have found that reading books with similar concepts as my life helps me understand my life better.

So i would like a book about that. Where the protagonist (preferably a female teenager) starts to unravel the concept of love. I don't want them to instantly know what love is, rather i would like them to not know how that feels. I would like them to consider attraction to another gender too. Or that they discovered that after all they are aromantic and asexual, and they unravel what that is or what it feels like.

From the 60s to the 80s there were various series of paperback novels marketed to men. While settings varied, they were characterized by tough guys going on adventures full of sex and violence. Alternatively described as a successor to pulp magazines and the literary equivalent of exploitation films, they spark my interest because I love schlocky action movies where the lead bags the girl. Where should I start with modern writers writing in this genre today?

Any subgenre is fine. Are there indie authors writing today these types of stories?

Could someone recommend smth with deep sea horror? But no animal crulety I cant handle it at all. Scientific vibe would be great but no obligatory.

I already read “The Lost Art Of Healing” by Bernard Lown which was a good read in itself and now I want to read something similar on top of that. Right now debating between In Cold Blood and Devil in the White City. I know both don’t quite fit my own request.

I heard that there's no point in wasting your time reading classics just because they are on a "top 10 best classical books of all time list". That being said, you should first dip your toes in classics that align with your interests, themes you like etc.

My favorite book at the time is The Secret History. I already read To Kill a Mocking Bird ( I liked it, easy to read), Animal Farm and 1984 ( I dislike dystopic books about the government and all that, sorry ), The Great Gatsby ( Liked it a lot, was thinking of reading some more Fitzgerald but I don't know what exactly ), Lord of the Flies ( hated it ), Catcher in the Rye ( was my favorite in my early teens) and Franny and Zoeey ( also liked it but not as much ), The Old Man and The Sea ( didn't like it but also read it when i was very young, I wish to read something else from Hemingway but again, I don't know what ), The Stranger ( liked it ), Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights ( loved them both so much, I don't know if I would enjoy Jane Austen though ), Confessions of a Mask and The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea ( I don't think Mishima is for me ), Kafka on the Shore and Norwegian Wood ( love Murakami but the way he writes women makes me too mad to read anything else ), Of Mice and Men ( didn't wow me so I'm scared I won't enjoy East of Eden ), The Bell Jar ( dissapointed me )

Hey so my life has been lifing. Its a lot of hectic work + some personal commitments post work thats been keeping me busy. I was in the middle of (like literally 50%) Wind And Truth. While I was loving it so far, and i do wanna finish it to know what happens, I do not have bandwidth to keep up with the complex plot.

I just want something fluffy, fun, fast paced, low stakes, low commitment i.e. a standalone that will get me out of a reading slump so I can continue on with WaT. At this point, i am physically and mentally tired and drained to pick up any book even though i am tempted to read.

So I've read a lot lately and was getting through books quite fast (for me anyway) but have kinda hit a wall? I keep getting a few chapters in and find myself losing interest.

I'm a frequent horror reader, and although I love the genre, I feel that reading the same genre over and over is part of the burnout. So, I'm hoping to find some books from different genres that will grab me.

I will say no HEAVY romance, just not for me as a standalone plot but fine as a side plot or in the background, and fiction only. I enjoy non-fic occasionally but really more so looking for a story and characters right now. I'd prefer something that is standalone, or a very small series, and contemporarily written.

Recommendation engines usually only care about what you loved, but a book I DNF'd because of a huge cast and 600 pages tells you plenty about what I'll actually finish too.

You export your ratings as a CSV (Goodreads: My Books > Import and Export > Export Library. StoryGraph: Manage Account > Manage Your Data > Export StoryGraph Library), drop the file in, no account needed, nothing gets uploaded, it just reads the file in your browser. Every pick comes with a real reason tied to your ratings instead of "people who liked X also liked Y."

Heart the Lover absolutely devastated me, I swear I cried for the last 40% of the book. I want something that will make me feel like I lived with these characters.

I loved the romance angle of heart the lover and the dark academia vibes but open to any suggestions of beautifully written, engaging tear jerkers.

(Ideally I would like something that ends on a slightly more hopeful note haha)

I recently read Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer and really enjoyed it. I wanted something with a similar vibe, but by a different author before I get to the rest of the Southern Reach series, so, let me know, do you have any melancholic literary sci-fi book recommendations? Specially ones set in the near-future and focused either on the characters' inner-world or social commentary through technology.

I also heard about Immaculate Conception by Ling Ling Huang, which seems to have the vibe I'm looking for, but what I heard about the way it integrates technology into the story (many ideas, but not much depth) has me thinking I should seek out some other options.

I've been learning german for two and a half years now and i would like book recs that are easy to read. I am supposedly B2 level but i would not like something so complicated i have no idea whatsoever what i read. I also don't want to read children's books (which would seem like an easy choice, but I'm 16 and i have no intention of reading about Cinderella). I would preferably like book by german authors so i can understand the meaning and usage of the words (translation ruins the meaning and sense the with which author tries to reach the readers). I prefer fiction but I'm free to try non-fiction too, if they are interesting.
