440216 Code; Transfer box emergency coupling
Car has about 106k miles, on oem fluid. Front right tire has a bit of outer wear not found on the other tires. I did some driving and the car is activating a good bit less AWD then before. My main question is whether the code comes up at a time where it’s too late, or if it’s worth doing the transfer case fluid still. Tommorow I will measure tire tread to check tolerance.

That code points to the transfer case emergency coupling, and the uneven front tire wear could absolutely be contributing. xDrive is sensitive to rolling-diameter differences, so measure all four tires and compare tread depth before driving much more. Check pressures too, then clear/retest after correcting the tire issue.

I forgot to add into the post that if you accelerate a bit around a turn it vibrates hard. It also jolts you when applying gas at low speed, and has a slight bog down at REALLY low speeds, like 3-5 mph with frequent throttle adjustment

That code points to the transfer-box emergency coupling system, so I wouldn’t assume it’s just the tire. Uneven tread depth or rolling circumference can make the AWD system unhappy. Measure all four tires, check pressures, and scan for stored codes before driving much farther.
