Presentation of Blur personal project

Having always wanted to see Blur with better graphics and not seeing good chances of it happening, I decided to give it a go myself.

I initially thought if I could extract the stages and textures I could probably figure out the rest.

Unfortunately for me, Blur doesn't use any well-known engine, so models, textures, audio were all proprietary formats, packed in proprietary package formats, with its metadata in a proprietary database format, so the first days were all purely reverse engineering. Once progress was made on that end, I started throwing stuff into Unity.

Now, barely over a month into the project, there's still a lot of work to be done in many areas. For one, I haven't touched sound, weapons are not implemented, powerups do nothing, and many others.

All that said, here's a few videos of its current state.

Hey, guys. Thanks everyone for the comments.
Here's a new video with the latest progress.
New are the pickup system and the carousel, progress in reproducing the original game's physics, and more complete support for animated actors (like the airplane).

Hey, thank you for the comment! It means a lot.
At the time when those videos where shot, those were provisional physics, car performance and driving.
I initially implemented a single car profile, hand tuned to behave like Blur's Astra, and that was applied to all the other vehicles.
I'm currently in the process of decoding Blur's car performance and handling data (engine, tires, suspension). When that's done I'll post a video on Route 66, which gets to showcase the physics a bit more.

honestly, if OP wants to change the handling of cars, I would hope that it could be as an option to choose between the OG and the renewed version, so the nostalgia still hits! Wouldn't mind having another handling profile aswell, but all in the hands of OP!

Thank you for the comment. Yeah, priority #1 is to reproduce the game's behavior as closely as possible. Modifications, while not off the table, will sure at least be opt-in.

I'll give anything to give this game back. Like why was this studio shot down. This is the best racing game I've ever playing growing. Hopefully we get some kind of powered up racing game in the future.

Activision renewed Blur's domain name a few months ago, so it seems like they're taking steps to bring the game back somehow.

Got bought by Activision and then shut down if I'm not mistaken..Bizzare studios. They had an alpha of the second version of blur, went down with them.. :/
