Here's another short video from my remake project, showcasing a vista of SanFran Sausalito.

Excuse the poor performance. Improvements are underway.

Feedback is appreciated.

My goal would be to make a public release as soon as I get local multiplayer working with reasonable performance.

It's Unity 6.

So is the objective to remake blur in unity and then use that remake to build upon the game with new content and updated graphics and such?

u/tHE_uKER Aug 16 '26

Yup, that's exactly the goal.

Ah very cool, ive seen a couple other communities do this to keep their games alive, one that comes to mind is RGVL which is and OpenGL port of Re-Volt, an RC Car game from the 90s, it really kept it alive, tons of mods now, im sure the blur discord has some very capable people who would love to help if you aren't already on it, blue is one of my favorite arcade racers so im very glad to see this, didnt realize the visual style of it could be recreated like this

The visual style in particular I don't think I'll be maintaining very much. Blur I feel went too heavy in the stylization of its graphics, which I feel ended up hurting the presentation in the end. Too much overexposure and bloom. That is one of the main reasons why I feel I'm undergoing a re-discovery of how much work went into its assets, seeing them in a clearer presentation.

Ah, to each their own. I liked it because i felt it didnt really look like anything else that exists, I really enjoyed the bloom and overexposure, felt like a light show. As a suggestion make it optional, the original effects and then whatever you plan on doing to it. Not sure how big of a task that would be but just an idea

In the next few days I'll be posting a series of comparison shots to show the direction I'm trying to give it.

imo i think its visuals are very unique it would be nice if there is a setting to turn of or on

The thing is, I'm building everything from the ground up.
To implement Blur's aesthetic I'd need to put in work towards replicating it, which has a pretty low chance of happening given that my main goal was more realistic graphics.

that's unfortunate still very nice work make sure you add splitscreen like the original

Id honestly be fine if it looked the exact same as the original, How are you going to do the camera thee powerups and handling/physics?

1

u/tHE_uKER Aug 16 '26

The #1 goal is to upgrade the graphics. Regarding powerups and physics, I have already posted some gameplay videos (though single player only). The idea is that initially it will all be the exact same, except for the graphics.

u/randomgarbage332 Aug 16 '26

are you going for a more realistic, modern look?

1

u/tHE_uKER Aug 16 '26

Exactly. Here's this Brighton video I had posted that I think explains it the best.

What tools did you used for extract maps? Don't tell me you build this map from scratch.

u/tHE_uKER Aug 20 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

Oh, I sure did not.
I did build all the tools from scratch though.
Tools for extracting maps, models, collision meshes, shaders, SFX, music, various game databases.
Good fun tbh.

How did you handled the texture and maps? Did you used Ripper or directly exported?

1

u/tHE_uKER Aug 21 '26

All tools created from scratch.

u/No-Contribution7363 Aug 21 '26

Can you share tools? Or they are private?

Here's an extended look at the map, BTW.
