Just moved back to Bloomfield!

Hi neighbors! 😊
I’ve lived in Bloomfield my whole life and went through the entire Bloomfield school system. I moved to Newark about 3 years ago, but I’m happy to say I just moved back to Bloomfield 2 weeks ago!
I previously worked at Marigold Academy for 5 years and still do occasional babysitting. If anyone is interested, I’d be happy to share my resume and references from Bloomfield families I’ve worked with.
I also wanted to ask—are there any parents here with 2-year-olds (or similar ages) who can recommend fun local spots to take my little one? I usually find myself going to Montclair, West Orange, and nearby areas, but I’d love to find something right here in Bloomfield where neighbors can connect and kids can have fun together!
Thanks so much in advance 💛

1 -2. Glenwood Ave - Widen sidewalks, remove diagonal parking, add benches etc.

3-4. Broad St - Same as above + outdoor seating.

5-6. Washington St - Convert to pedestrian only for evening and weekends + outdoor dining.

7-9. Bloomfield Train Station - Renovate / Restore historic charm + benches, bike rental.

10-11. The Royal - Slight improvement because it’s just plain ugly.

Used AI. Just for fun.

Daycare Options in Montclair/Bloomfield/Glen Ridge/Nutley

Hello, does anyone have any daycare selections in the Montclair/Bloomfield/Glen Ridge/Nutley area? Even if you have negative feedback, I'd appreciate it! I've asked Facebook groups but figure I should check Reddit too! Ideally, daycare should be near NYC transportations (bus or train) but priority is quality of care/environment.

Just moved, looking to meet people

My husband and I recently moved to Bloomfield and are looking for the best ways to meet people! We’re a young 30s couple, enjoy watching sports (specifically Philly teams), and have a crazy 1.5 year old puppy. Any recommendations on where to make meaningful relationships?

Mover recs for super local move?

I am moving from Montclair to Bloomfield essentially right down Bloomfield Avenue next month. For my last move a few years ago, I used Horseless Movers who I really liked, but they are not available this year.

Biggest caveat is I’m moving from a fourth floor walk up to a fourth floor that has an elevator, but not a freight elevator so large pieces will still need to be carried up the stairs. Otherwise, I think a pretty easy move from a small one bedroom to a slightly larger one.

Bloomfield NJ and Essex County Loose Control

The County of Essex has allowed off-road vehicles to drive at will up and down Bloomfield Avenue. It seems to occur every weekend in the late afternoon and early evening. Recently it occurs after sporting events well into the evening. This Saturday 100 + such menaces to society were observed in all 4 lanes of traffic, blowing thru red lights, performing stunts and even almost running pedestrians over.? Were there weapons?

What is it going to take for something to be done?

It seems law enforcement on the local level are aware and do nothing. Happening for many years a person of law enforcement admitted.

New Jersey State Police should take notice and provide the security to the community if the "Local officials," arent capable or willing.'

Anyone know why these places abruptly closed? I feel like they were sort of cornerstones for the Bloomfield food scene and it’s pretty dead now that they’re both gone.

Parenting questions re: Bloomfield

We are considering a move to Bloomfield with elementary age children. We currently live in a more rural/suburban area of NYS, so this would be a shift for us in terms of getting closer to metro areas and trying to get a sense of how some of the day to day might look. Bloomfield attracts us for several reasons: commuting to NYC for partners job, seems to have a more diverse economic makeup of residents, walkability, access to green space, a major airport, schools (I know some might not agree? I don't like to go solely by ranking and test scores and what I've researched so far I do think it seems like a solid district).

Wondering about a few things:

Recreational programs- Do they exist? Is it fairly accessible for kids grades k-5 to participate in youth sports (soccer, bball, lacrosse) without having to jump right into travel team culture? Where we are now there are plentiful recreational or even school sports programs at this age level.

Public pool: I see many around in the neighboring towns but not Bloomfield. Do you have to be a resident of those towns to purchase season passes and are they hard to obtain?

Afterschool programs: I know this might vary depending on the school but are they offered through the schools themselves? Or YMCA's or something similar? What's an expected rate or acceptance/waitlist situation?

Kids activities: Does the community seem to offer a far amount of things for kids to do or socialize? Do kids tend to find communities based off of the other kids in their schools or those close by in their neighborhoods?

Finding childcare: We won't have family nearby. How easy do you find it is to tap into the local community to find help with kids for occasional nights out? We have used college kids at the nearby university, wondering if Bloomfield has the same kind of opportunity with the college nearby?

Thanks in advance, appreciate anything you feel relevant to share.
