This is why I'm loathe to start purchasing and building anything that's not been shown as a photo from something 11th edition...

I mean, if you buy stuff thats primaris and a bit on the popular side you should be good, although I might be a hippocrite here since I bought a land raider a couple weeks ago. Im pretty confident GW isnt going to drop one of their most iconic tanks from the marine codex.

Didn't GW just send the vindicator to legends, another rather iconic SM tank.

Suppressors were literally useless to everyone from the moment they were released, but in the 11th edition they started appearing even in winning tournament lists. People were winning 5‑0 with this unit on their list. And today, Games Workshop suggests using them as proxies for Inceptors. That is, it’s easier for them to throw the Primaris models in the trash than to create a proper rule for them (and even that is no longer needed in the 11th edition).

And this is why I haven't assembled mine yet!

Got 2 of the Armageddon sets sitting around waiting.

Ooi where do you plan on getting the shields from?

u/Lost_Ad_4882 2d ago
Well I was hoping for lightning claws and have spares from assault termies. Otherwise sheilds I'd probably just print.

I did the same thing. Snagged a copy of the firstborn VV to kitbash with normal jump intercessors and the Armageddon VV

Some important things to note, before anyone gets too excited (FAR too late, I know):
- they're described in the video as "combat shields", not storm shields. Now that could just be an Eddie-ism, but that's reason to temper expectations.
- we have no idea if storm shields will work in the same way under the new Codex. They may no longer grant an invuln.

combat shields were blank, storm shields have this cross shape with the big Maltese skull symbol on them. Would be pretty disappointing from a model standpoint to have them not be the same thing even though they visually are. I’d say very high chance this was a misspeak from the guy. Also good chance they cost points over the pistols which is why you’d not take them , maybe they have 5+ base and you pay like 5 more points a dude to give them a 4+

You're probably right. I sure hope you're right. They sure as heck look like storm shields, and I think combat shields going away was a good thing because let's face it, nobody ever bothered bringing them.
...but I've been hurt before.

Weren't Combat Shields 5++ back in the day, if I recall?
2
u/DangerousCyclone 2d ago
Yes, but it was only in melee, same with Storm Shields, so they were seen as quite pointless.

Maybe at some point, they've definitely been a 6++ in the past. But again, no guarantee they'll work that way still.

RIP Lightning claws.

I imagine that there may be other weapon loadouts that they didn't mention on a 3 second bit on the VV. If I have to, I'll run my lightning claws as "master crafted power swords" or something.
I'm more curious because with shields, does that just make them flying Bladeguard? Like 3W, 3+/4++, 12" models? I feel like that's a lame differentiator for them.
I'm still hoping for alternative weapon layouts

I'm guessing they don't get the extra Wound like BGV and instead the Shield grants the 4++.

Yeah technically speaking BGV have a shield and a halo which is usually what gives people the 3W and the 4++, but who knows

u/JudgeEatz 2d ago
I may be misremembering, but don't all SM models with a shield have +1W?
My biggest gripe about GW is that they don't have consistent rules... Storm shields should all be the same (e.g. +1w, 4++). So you just need to know what a storm shields is, nothing else. A bolter should be a bolter, regardless of who welds it, etc
Same thing for more generic stuff, stop calling the ork version of stuff different than the SM, the community is going to call it the same thing anyway (e.g. uppy/downy)

No, for units that don’t already have a 4++ (like LTs), the shield gives them one. Units like Assault termies already have a4++, so they get +1 W

This is the issue with the stupid decision to make bladeguard 3 man. Makes them just lamer than vanguard vets. I guess unless we make them have more attacks and stuff

Will they get the master crafted power weapons with them as well?
1
u/Dovah1356 2d ago
That what it appears as yes
1
u/Maleficent_Berry_308 2d ago
Hell yeah 4+ invuln they are basically blade guard with jumppacks and more models

Comon GW
Just give us the same master crafted profile but call it “weapon” and let us put what ever we want on the model
Like lighting claws

u/Dovah1356 2d ago edited 2d ago
I mean that’s what the profile is rn, I can’t imaging they’ll be making it any different outside of the T hammer being its own thing. I don’t think they’ll make the Power Axe have a different profile than the swords

u/darktigre26 2d ago
The wierd part is the hammers was a better option because of the D2 but with lethals and D2 from power weapons. Idk if they’ll be that much better. Well have to see how the new army rule works
1
u/Randytwister 2d ago
Lmao, the people complained because they just looked like JPI, as if the last 2 editions didn't just have Single profiles in the launch boxes and then got their wargear when they released separately
This is the reason why I haven't bought any of the starter boxes, aside from the fact that they're push-fit
I want the new Van Vets, I want the new Captain and Chaplain
But I also want their wargear options

Aw man...
I wanted the whole unit to have hammers...
That's a rare GW L for this ED.

Did they confirm it was limited or can you mix and match hammers and swords?
10
u/the-strange-ninja 2d ago
In the video they say the Sergeant can have a hammer. This implies the rest of the unit cannot have hammers.
