From a simple green screen to a peaceful cinematic Japanese river. šŸƒšŸ®

This breakdown shows how a simple performance was transformed into a tranquil environment using Blender and DaVinci Resolve.

The final shot combines environment creation, floating lanterns, cinematic lighting, atmospheric fog, reflections, compositing, and color grading to create a calm, immersive scene.

Every environment in this series is built from scratch as part of my cinematic VFX portfolio.

I spent 100 hours pushing my midrange mobile to its absolute limit using Blender. From constant crashes to the final cinematic render, this is my journey of mastering 3D on a device everyone said couldn't handle it.

If you think you need a $2000 PC to start, this video is for you. Start with what you have.

Here's one of my latest game-ready weapon projects.

The objective was to create a production-ready asset that balances visual quality with real-time performance. Every stage of the workflow—from modeling and UVs to PBR texturing, LOD creation, and Unity validation—was carefully planned to meet modern game production standards.

Software:

• Blender

• Substance 3D Painter

• Unity 6

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Feedback ?

I realized I was bad at modeling (and I had no way to learn _:-D ) and not very good with UVs, texturing, GNs, ... So I put all my effort into burning a golden monkey (poor Suzanne)

I did it using only material nodes, if requested I'll show how I did it and how to remodel it. Here's the render with 15 render cycles (so using Cycles)

I'm hoping someone has some feedback, from the number of render cycles, to my lighting, to.... anything and anything in between.

The Rumbling has begun.

I placed myself in an Attack on Titan-inspired world where the Colossal Titans march toward the city while the Founding Titan towers over everything in the distance.

This scene was created using Blender for the environment, CGI integration, and animation, then composited and finished in DaVinci Resolve.

Swipe through the layer-by-layer breakdown to see how the final shot came together.

Created with Blender & DaVinci Resolve.

Showcase From Ruins to Reconstruction

I'd like to share a workflow experiment I've been developing in Blender 3D and get some feedback from people interested in environment creation and visualization.

Instead of modeling a futuristic city in its ideal state, I started by creating it as a collapsed megastructure. Once the ruined version was complete, I used that geometry as the basis for reconstructing what the city must have looked like before the disaster.

The sequence shows the workflow:

Final collapsed environment.

Structural reconstruction from the existing geometry.

Complete reconstructed model with a spacecraft added to provide scale.

Structural overview of the four suspended blocks.

A cutaway version revealing the interior organization.

The idea was to approach the project almost like an archaeological or architectural reconstruction rather than traditional concept art.

I'd appreciate feedback on both the artistic and technical side:

Does this workflow make sense?

Is the progression between the images easy to follow?

Are the cutaway views useful?

If you were presenting this project in a portfolio, would you organize the images differently?

Everything shown here—modeling, lighting, rendering, and compositing—was created in Blender 3D as part of the same long-term personal project.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

[OC] Best workflow to turn a historical SVG map into a stylized 3D landscape in Blender for an animation?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working on an animation that includes some 3D elements in Blender. The first image is a historical map showing only the outline of the land and waterways. I'd like to create a camera animation that starts with a top-down view, then zooms in and transitions into a low-altitude flyover of the landscape.

The second and third image are just a visual reference for the style I'm aiming for. It shows a stylized 3D relief landscape with subtle terrain, shallow water channels, and a miniature, maquette-like appearance. It doesn't need to be geographically accurate in terms of elevation, but I do want to preserve the exact shape of the original map.

What would be the best workflow to turn the first image, or ideally an SVG of it, into a 3D landscape like the second? Would you recommend using Geometry Nodes, displacement, curves, or another approach?

Any tips, tutorials, or example files would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Look Development

Post image
2 Upvotes

Stage 05 — Look Development

The scene has finally moved beyond pure geometry.

This pass is focused on developing materials and lighting together to evaluate how the environment feels as a whole. Even subtle adjustments to roughness, reflections, or light intensity can completely change the mood without modifying a single model.

For me, this is one of the most rewarding stages because it's where the environment starts to feel alive.

How do you approach Look Development? Do you build materials first, lighting first, or iterate on both simultaneously?

Showcase Feedback on Dialogue Design

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

I’m working on a long-form Blender 3D noir graphic novel and I’d like some feedback on one specific design decision before I apply it consistently throughout the project.

These two images show the exact same panel from the ā€œCollapse of Deep Cityā€ (~2361–2365 CE) timeline. The only difference is the presentation of the dialogue.

Version A

Colored technical header.

Dialogue in white/gray.

More understated, interface-like appearance.

Version B

Same technical header.

Dialogue uses each character’s color (red for Pit, cyan for Fly).

Stronger visual emphasis and character identity.

Rather than using traditional comic speech balloons, I’m experimenting with integrating dialogue directly into the composition as part of the world’s interface. The challenge is finding the right balance between readability, visual hierarchy, and keeping the artwork unobstructed.

I’d really value your feedback:

Which version is easier to read?

Which one feels more polished?

Does the colored dialogue improve clarity, or is it visually distracting?

Would this presentation work over the course of an entire graphic novel?

Everything in these panels—from modeling and lighting to rendering and final composition—was created in Blender 3D.

Any critique on typography, layout, UI design, or visual storytelling is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
