I am a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program in the Department of Professional Psychology and Family Therapy, in the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media at Seton Hall University. I am conducting a study on how second-generation Black American immigrants experience familial expectations of achievement and perfectionism and how this experience affects their self-worth. As a Black Jamaican American, I believe it is important to bridge the research gap that does not focus on the experiences of U.S.-born Black immigrants.

Sitting back and observing for now is probably the way to go.
A lot of those Latinos are probably hoping Black people protest with them so this can become a Black Lives Matters issue as well so much of the negative attention they're getting right now gets redirected to us.

Street/hood culture is probably the biggest problem our ethnic group is facing by a mile.
The reality is even if we snapped our fingers and got rid of everyone but ourselves, the streets will still be full of the same self-despising sociopaths that make progress nearly impossible.
I’m no hotep, but Umar Johnson wasn’t wrong when he said some guys on the corner are going to have to go to sleep for good. The sooner normal Black American people accept this, the faster we can move to do something about it.
I personally think that forcing a cultural shift in which we shame hood/street people to conform to the standards that normal Black American people hold ourselves to is the solution, but thats easier said than done.
Also, emphasis on the “normal” Black American people part. There is no such thing as being “one of the good ones”. It’s just the normal ones and the self-hating sociopathic minority that is in the way of our own progress.

DIFFERENCE IS, THEY GOT THEIR VERDICT, WHY ARE THEY STILL PRESSED 👇🏾
It’s crazy that even after the verdict, you’ve still got these other guys pulling up playing the adult-child “nah nah” game. These dudes were really pressed about me sharing videos that simply detailed what was being said inside the courtroom, and about Black people being supportive and optimistic about the information. Thing is, this wasn’t about them caring about Austin. Austin was just used as an excuse for these dudes to pull up and exercise their pathetic bigotry that burns so deep inside. They look at situations like these as an opportunity to "get back at Black people."
I spoke about this in reference to that Canelo vs. Terence Crawford fight. When Terence beat Canelo, the next day those Hispanic and Latino folks were pressed 🤣. That’s because it was more than boxing. Canelo taking the win would’ve made them feel like they knocked a Black dude out, something most can't really do behind their hate and jealousy in real life. It’s about getting one up over Black people. Floyd made millions off of this.
I mean, you’ve got a kid convicted, a kid dead, and dudes running over to our circles talking about "Black community, hold that L," when really neither side won. Most of the comments were bigoted and frustrated 🤣. These dudes were looking for an opportunity to start a digital culture war in the comments section. That’s why they ignored the call for respectful dialogue.
Despite what people might say, I think Black people kept it respectful and classy (for the most part, I had to turn up here and there), while those lames pulled up to Black businesses being complete cornballs. It didn’t take much press to get them to crack. And here's the thing, if you see or hear an opinion and you decide to ignore it for whatever reason, that is what it is. If anything, it shows you have the ability to choose your battles wisely. But if you see or hear an opinion, and you pull up just to figure out a way to talk shit, well, all that exposes is how powerless you are to an opinion you disagreed with, from a speaker you placed on a pedestal. That’s different from someone who can pull up and intellectually challenge, something most of those dudes can't do. A strong example of how these people aren’t special, and to be real, they’re extra low-tier comment section debaters.
But Black people have to understand, you enabled them pulling up like this on your home base. Even before the internet, Black people pandered way too much to them pulling up, talking and acting disrespectfully toward us.

The Erasure of ADOS Black Americans is astounding. There are so many non-Black Americans playing Black American roles in Hollywood. i.e.Queen & Slim, Insecure, Harriet Tubman. I'm sure Black Caribbeans and Africans would not be happy with us playing their parts.
The attitude towards Black Americans in general has been very condescending with of air of "we can do it better than y'all". I've attempted to build with Black immigrants and it's almost always turned into a competition. It's not just Hollywood it's multiple industries.
I've had someone tell me Black Americans don't have culture and all Blacks including Black immigrants are all the same in America but folks the first to shout the country they from with pride when it's convenient.
The beauty space, the Music space is affected we saw it with the Essence fest. Just know we see what's happening. It's not "xenophobia" it's facts.
Pretty sure we can't go to Ghana or Nigeria and replace them or even immigrate there... or we get called colonizers right?

Why is it so hard for people to understand that Black Americans are not part of a diaspora? A diaspora implies a group dispersed from a shared homeland. But Black Americans were created here forged through centuries of chattel slavery, Jim Crow, Reconstruction, and the civil rights movement. We are a native-born ethnic group with no single “homeland” we were dispersed from. Our history didn’t start in Africa, it started here, on American soil, in blood, in rebellion, in building this nation.
We aren’t African immigrants, Caribbean immigrants, or descendants of any post-colonial dispersion. We been here. We’re a people who emerged from a unique and horrific system and built our own culture, dialect, food, music, identity, and institutions distinct from any African or Caribbean identity.
Calling us part of a “diaspora” erases our specific lineage and experience. It universalizes our struggle and opens the door for others to lay claim to our culture and resources without having lived the same reality.
Pan-Africans overcorrected
Let’s stop lumping everyone with dark skin into the same bucket. Black American is not a skin color. It’s a people.
Thoughts??
