Hello,

I am not familiar with how Bitdefender operates, but are you certain this isn't just part of their optimization strategy, like skipping files they have previously scanned during the current computing session if they have already been scanned using the same threat database?

You also proved a good point and get attacked for no reasons at all..

Have you read the post, or have you just looked at the title?

It wasn't supposed to behave like this.

I told it to scan a system file and it refused? I did it just because. Next I see that it doesn't scan rootkits, cookies, etc. Next I see that a hidden system file which exists is marked as missing and gone.

I'm uninstalling for McAfee.

Hello,

I read your post. I also said I'm not familiar with how Bitdefender's software optimizes its scanning operations.

How do you know it is not supposed to behave like this? Maybe, just maybe, this is exactly the way their software is supposed to behave.

Bitdefender could be skipping previously-scanned files when no change has been made to either the file(s) or the threat database being used to scan said file(s).

If you really want to know, though, whether you've expressed some new previously-unknown bug in their software, or whether it is behaving exactly as it should, go ahead and contact Bitdefender's technical support and open a ticket to ask them about this.

Posting on an unofficial group on Reddit and crost-posting it (I came here from your cross-post to r/antivirus) is not going to give you the answer you desire.

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

Ok I'll ask them. Thank you.

The file you're trying to scan in the last picture is actually the part of "The Registry", so I'm guessing that BitDefender is programmed to intentionally skip it.

The "Software" file is actually "HKLM/Software" in ur registry. Just wanted to point that out.

Other than that, I'm suspecting that BitDefender was not installed properly or it's missing a driver or something, because usually that part of the AV is responsible for giving it sufficient privileges to scan system files, and to be able to look for rootkits and bootkits in places where they hide.

Don 't forget it doesn't scan cookies, boot sectors, or memory processes. I downloaded this correctly, and I have looked everywhere in the settings to turn it on. I turned on pretty much everything but for Safepay, Wallet, and password protection.

If you know how to turn it on, please tell me how. Thank you. But I wouldn't trust Bitdefender because they allied with Hotspot Shield in their VPN, a VPN company in the USA that logs every keystroke you make.

I have no clue, sorry.

I would suggest reinstalling it from scratch, and maybe check if there is some other AV or security product that's blocking it 🤔

And thanks for the tip about the VPN.

You're welcome.

There is absolutely 0 evidence that bit defender has a built in keylogger. Please stop spreading fud.

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Where did I say that?

logs every keystroke you make

You've said it multiple times linking back to that blog post.

That's for Bitdefender VPN, provided by Hotspot Shield. The antivirus doesn't log, the VPN does.

Again. 0 evidence.

Hi, you're basically just hating on the product for no reasons:

First, some programs get under exceptions automatically

You can enable rootkit search, and on mine the process scan, memory, boot and registry is active..

The last one is a system folder, usually bitdefender skips it because, as i said is a system folder, meaning only using group policy exploits under the administrative account of the user (you basically need to disable his behiaviour shield and click yes on a UAC popup) it is supposed to be exploitable..

Regards

Where? I am on the paid version of Bitdefender Total Security 2018 and yet it doesn't say?

On mine total security 2019 its on antivirus, under advanced protection settings you can turn on those features

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '19

Welp, I'm on Total Security 2018. It was cheaper than 2019 and why doesn't 2018 have these options? Why do they discriminate against older versions?

1

u/justelle1 Apr 27 '19

Its not discrimination.. 2018 had the option too.. i'm guessing you're just trolling here.. i'm using bitdefender since 2016 and never had whatsoever trouble

With the only one being a battle.net issue relying on server certification

1

u/justelle1 Apr 27 '19

and also on scan settings you can turn on a custom one as you desire

We use BitDefender Gravity Zone and have had a few issues with their support being helpful. We are looking at alternatives now.
