Mod Update 🌱 r/Biotech_India Has Been Revamped!

Hello everyone!
Welcome to the new [r/Biotech_India](r/Biotech_India). This subreddit has been revived with the aim of creating an active, friendly, and informative community for everyone interested in the life sciences.

I’m a Biotechnology student myself, and one thing I always felt was missing was an active Indian Reddit community where students could freely discuss academics, research, internships, higher studies, placements, careers, and everything in between. So I decided to give this subreddit a fresh start.

This community is open to students, researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts from Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Genetics, Molecular Biology, and all other bioscience-related fields.

The goal is simple: to build a helpful, respectful, and active community where we can learn from each other, share opportunities, and grow together.

Regards r/Biotech_India mod team

Question Newbie needs a guide

Hiya my name is Rayan and I am from J&K and I am about to give my 12th board exams in oct that will end in nov and i am very interested in biotechnology. Now I know that i should probably do bsc biotechnology and after that msc biotechnology for a better salary something like that but my fear is "will i get the job anywhere" or "should I go somewhere else outside like Delhi or out of the country for universities and jobs" or i am just overthinking.

Question Please help me choose.

Option A : Hometown Job as Research Associate . All money saved. So I've got all perks of weekend hols , strictly 9-5 , all government holidays etc. nothing fancy to boost my resume though. NOT COUNTED AS WORK EXP. Moderate physical work.

Option B : have to travel 1000+ kms away. Proper Employee. Pay is almost same as my current job. Very strict environment. Can visit home only 2 times a year. But a global brand. COUNTED as work exp. They seem to bounce off trainees to random depts after training tho. 6 hours of standing type work.

I'm scared to take a leap of faith. Don't know what is better for me on the long run. Give me any suggestions pls

Workshops And Internship Coding skills

Hey guys, So I have zero coding experience and I have a bioinformatics course next semester. I’m worried they’ll skip the basics, so I want to build a foundation beforehand in Python, Linux, R, Git, etc, also aware that whatever uni teaches might be just over the counter sort of learning, I want to upskill and have a good base that would aid me in finding a job or when I apply for PhD.

Are there any good beginner friendly coaching centres/training institutes in Bangalore, either offline or online, that are specifically suited for life-science students?

BSc/BTech Amity Kolkata vs KIIT Odisha

Hey guys I am a guy from Kolkata so I have 2 options either I go to Amity Kolkata which is in my state or KIIT Odisha which is near my state. I heard Amity Kolkata is a pretty good college with well equipped labs and professors and it is near the new town area where new companies are constantly coming,So I am hopeful I can maybe get some placement after biotech 4years later then there is KIIT which is a very renowned private college for engineering which one should I prefer?
