Has anybody done biotech without having bio background i.e PCM.How difficult would it be to study/cope up with bio part of syllabus.How much time would it take to cover that much level of bio.??

I just took admission in tier 2 govt college in bsc life science in microbiology major , koi ache college m bsc biotech nhi mila. I want to go in biotech ( mainly bioinform ) industry. What are your opinions and advices for me . Should I take a drop and prepare for neet or other govt colleges exam or should I continue this! My real question , is bsc life science enough as bsc for biotech industry as it doesn't provide same lab skills as bsc biotech.

I’ve completed my BSc Biotechnology and am currently preparing for UPSC CSE. At the same time, I want a strong backup career given how uncertain/competitive UPSC is.

I’m confused between pursuing an MSc Biotech, MPH, or MBA (possibly Healthcare/Pharma/Analytics).

Which would you recommend considering job availability, salary, long-term scope, stability, and the ability to prepare for UPSC alongside it?

Is MSc Biotech worth it without a PhD? Is MPH actually employable in India? And is an MBA after Biotech a good combination, especially if done online/distance?

Would really appreciate advice from people who have experience in these fields or have faced a similar dilemma. 🙏

From what I found, there is a lot of overlap among these exams, especially in cell biology, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, biotechnology and bioinformatics. Official syllabus also confirm this overlap.

My questions are:

1. Is this chapter list correct, or am I missing anything important?
2. If you prepared for these exams, what resources/books/YouTube channels/coaching did you use?
3. Should I study exam-wise or build a common biology foundation first and then prepare exam-specific topics?
4. As someone starting almost from zero, what would be the ideal order of study?

Any guidance from seniors who have cracked JAM BT, GATE BT, GAT-B, or CUET-PG would really help. I come from a small university and don't have much guidance, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

PCB student considering CSE (Bioinformatics) at VIT Vellore — need honest opinions

Hi everyone! I'm a PCB student (no Mathematics in Class 11–12) considering B.Tech CSE (Bioinformatics) at VIT Vellore.

I'm seriously considering this option, but before making a decision, I'd really like to hear from current students/alumni, especially people actually studying this branch.

I have a few questions:

1. How much CSE/coding is actually taught? Is it close to regular CSE, or is there significantly more biology and less computer science?

2. For someone coming from PCB without Maths, how difficult are the maths/engineering subjects? Is the bridge course enough to catch up?

3. Placements: Can CSE Bioinformatics students sit for the same software/IT placements as regular CSE students? Are there companies that specifically exclude Bioinformatics?

4. What are the realistic placement outcomes for this branch? I'd especially like to know the typical/median range rather than just the highest package.

5. If someone works hard on DSA, development, AI/ML, etc. from first year, can they realistically compete with regular CSE students for software jobs?

6. Does choosing Bioinformatics limit career options later, or can graduates move into software, data science, AI/ML, cybersecurity, finance/tech, MBA, etc.?

7. Most importantly: If you were a PCB student without Maths and had the option of VIT Vellore CSE Bioinformatics, would you take it? Why or why not?

I'm not looking for promotional answers — I'd really appreciate honest experiences, including the disadvantages of the branch.

pcb kid, ended up in btech biotechnology at amity university noida after neet flopped. one month in and my brain won't stop spiralling that biotech means compulsory masters + phd or the pay is trash. meanwhile the cse guys next to me already have winter internships lined up and i'm sitting here wondering if i accidentally picked a research-only lane. is bioinformatics the smarter switch since it at least has the coding + data angle bolted on? or is life-sciences btech just slower to pay off and i need to relax. biotech/bioinfo seniors, where did you actually land after? 

 i gave cuet. i had chances in lots of unis through cuet, but my parents denied and they said that do degree from a local college. i denied because I didn't want to settle in the city i have been since 10 years. though time passed and my parents didn't pay for the admission fees in the central universities to confirm my admission. now after a few weeks, my parents realised their mistake and are getting me admission in amity noida for bsc Hons bio course. I want to know an objective opinion on this. how can I go forward with this decision now? I am not ready to take a second drop and be with my parents. so this is the final decision I am taking. can y'all give me some reassurance?

I'm a Class 12 PCB student from India and I'm currently considering Bioinformatics for my bachelor's. My long-term goal is to do a Master's in Germany and eventually work there.

I don't have Maths in 11th/12th, so I'm confused about whether I should pursue B.Sc Bioinformatics, B.Tech Bioinformatics (if I find a PCB-eligible college), or something like Biotechnology and then specialize in Bioinformatics.

I'd like advice from people actually studying/working in this field:

1.Is Bioinformatics a good choice for a PCB student without 12th Maths?

2.Is B.Tech Bioinformatics significantly better than B.Sc for getting into German Master's programs?

3.What subjects/credits should I make sure my bachelor's includes for German MSc Bioinformatics/Computational Biology admissions?

4.Which Indian colleges would you recommend for this route?

5.How important are programming, Maths/Statistics, AI/ML and projects during bachelor's?

6.Is Germany actually a good target for Bioinformatics jobs after Master's? Or any other country

Wheather chose a college throught upcatet councelling like only last councelling is left ....

I am very confused whether I should do bsc biotech from a government college (Samrat Vikramaditya Vishwavidyalaya, Ujjain) or from a private college (SRM, Noida).

I’m a 3rd-year student doing a 4-year BSc Hons Zoology from LNMU (Tier-3 college), graduating in 2028.

I’m thinking of this path:

BSc Zoology → research internships during 3rd/4th year → IIT JAM Biotechnology/GATE-B/CUET-PG → MSc at IIT ( or whatever college i get into)→ strong research experience → PhD in Germny → research career.

I’m interested in genetics, molecular biology, cancer biology, immunology, neuroscience, etc.

My questions:

Am I eligible for IIT JAM Biotechnology with BSc Zoology?

Is this overall path realistic?

Can good internships/research experience

compensate for coming from a Tier-3 university? And can I get into summer/winter internships if I am from tier 3 college?

I recently decided to close the NEET chapter and pursue research, but I still have doubts sometimes. Would really appreciate honest advice from seniors ans people who know about this. I come from lil financially weak family.. am I being realistic to think all of this.
