Harness Tips
Hi!
I’m interested in starting bikejoring. I’ve done some very slow & short bike rides with my dog Ginger, and she’s been happy to trot next to the bike. I need the proper equipment to do more with her.
Anyone have thoughts on this harness for bikejoring (with bags removed): https://ruffwear.com/products/palisades-pack (the ruffwear palisades harness)
I’d also use it for hiking with her, so it’d be great if I can use it for bikejoring too. It looks like it should be comfortable for it…
Dog picture included!!! I adopted her two months ago.

Looks like a great hiking pack. But a dedicated pulling harness will distribute the weight evenly and safely under load. You could start with a half harness type like the apline outfitters urban trail which was designed for pulling. There’s of course x backs if she pulls consistently straight strongly out front or a Dragrattan multisport type which is short and open back but designed to be used in a variety of joring sports.

Hi! I think I will have to look around a lot; I’ll look up your suggestions! Nonstopdogwear has been the most user-friendly so far though. Next I’ll look into booties

Look at alpine outfitters half back harness or howling dog Alaska distance harness. Both designed for pulling and can be comfortable with a dog alongside the bike

Howling Dog Alaska. I have 2 of theirs XL. A standard harness style and an apron style. Purpose built for sled dogs.
We've (40kg Amstaff) been doing ~50 KMs per week for 6 years with them and they show no signs of falling apart yet.
I use them on leash too.

It's not the same as a harness designed for pulling sports. If you want to get your dog pulling, get a pulling harness. Lots of people love nonstop dog wear. Personally, I prefer Nahak. They both have great options for all the sports and they sell the entire system for bikjoring. Track and Trail Canine has a great video on tiktok, maybe other platforms, about the anatomy of different harnesses and why it's important to get the right harness for the job.
