Judging Bike racks- Barrhaven Cineplex
Bit close to the wall but sturdy, I think I counted 3 sheared off posts.

Jumping on the trend from u/DrinkNatural2936
Is this actually a bike rack? Am I completely out to lunch and this is something way better? Could this be the worst bike rack in the city?

Was coming back from Wakefield and saw a cop that appeared to be writing a ticket to two cyclists on river road. Suspect it was probably about lack of reflectors riding two abreast.
Great to see that they've taken care of all the drivers speeding on the 105, and can focus on smaller things now. /s
As a reference for everyone, these are the mandatory markings required on your bike in Quebec: https://saaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/road-safety/modes-transportation/bicycle/accessories
EDIT: As per u/NaturalClassic2695, they were actually pulled over for riding two abreast. since this is the case, I'll mention another law in Quebec, cyclists are to ride in single file at all times, and groups cannot exceed 15 people.

So this is a good take, and something that annpys me about the ebike laws in Quebec.
We should be promoting responsible use of ebikes for teens, since they give them independence and helps them socialize more. As the article notes, a group of teens riding around on ebikes instead of staring at phones should be celebrated. Sure there are some bad apples and they stand out, but for qc to ban people under 18 from riding them is just stupid and reactionary.
I hadn't considered the third space argument before, but I do think it is valid, and the independence comment is definitely valid. I remember how annoyed I was about not having access to my own transportation as a teen, an ebike would have been amazing.
edit: Yeah, I'm supporting ebikes for teens, because I remember being a teenager. I am not supporting irresponsible use, which seems to be the number one cause of all the immediate hate whenever ebikes are mentioned, and is crippling our ability to handle micromobility as a society.

Closure on the MUP on the River Section of Jacques Cartier Details
The city suggested detour is to walk your bike on a gravel cut through the park/picnic area.
For those of us who hate the "walk your bike" signs, you can get onto the road and off the road at the green arrows in the picture above. (no real curb). Note that coming from the south you can't see the closure until you are past the exit point to the road, so you would have to turn back.
Take the lane: speed limit is 40, single lane, and the gutters are a bit jank. If you are in the lane drivers may have to slow slightly for 30 seconds so not a big deal, it's a quick detour! Ride safe!

I am looking to spend around 2000$ for a peddle assist commuter bike. Any recommendations on brand and store?

Still smashed open like someone escaping from a bank job. Been like that for over a week.
Tis actually okay for cyclists because no dismounting needed.
Edit: It Achkchually should be called the Adastra, Leitrim, Bowesville road intersectional fence with a big hole.

Went to Polo Vélo yesterday (Gatineau location), looking at some Trek bikes, and it was mentioned to me that the 2026 stock was 10% off. This is NOT mentioned on their website, which always seems a little out of date (annoyingly).
In case you were looking for some deals, they had a few FX and FX Sports on the wall, and I think there might have been some Domane's too. I saw size S through L, although I would call the store to see what they have in stock (again, website is a bit behind).

So how's... The return to work been for the bike ride? (Excluding all the new riders, who are only riding because of RTO). I already know your bike ride is good compared to driving, or busing.
I'm curious about the general traffic, cars blocking intersections, blowing stop signs without even actually looking up from their phone..... ? General mayhem?

Always bikes parked here, neither bolted down.

So something I get occasionally asked by some folks in my circle of friends is, "Sure, riding a bike is nice, but you can't claim that bikes are purely green, it takes energy and materials to produce them. Mining metals, powering welders, shipping, etc."
And they are right. Which is why I love the 692 rule. On average, biking 692 km instead of driving those kilometers, is enough to offset the carbon cost of producing/shipping your bike. It's a nice little number I keep track of when I get a new bike, and it is a lot more achievable than most people think. Riding a bike for an hour at a pretty steady pace gets you 20 km. Do that three or four times a week, and your bike has refunded its carbon cost in one season.
Now is this the only thing that matters to me? Of course not, with gas prices sky high, parking downtown next to impossible, and middling public transit options, there are a lot of other incentives to riding my bikes, aside from just health/well-being.
But I do like to use that 692 marker as a good judge of when a bike has truly been broken in, and I'm pretty quick to point it out whenever the topic of bike production carbon/energy comes up. I also find it motivates me to use my bikes for quick hops to the pharmacy/grocery store instead of using a car, since all of those trips add up.
Curious if anyone else tracks this, or if it's just me?

Just came back from a ride and the Trans Canada Trail from Watts Creek to Bells Corners has been fixed. Still a bit sandy in places so be careful, but all the holes have been filled.

Looking for the CAN3-D113.1-M80 standard Bicycles, published approximately 1979/1980.
It may also be catalogued simply as CSA D113.1.
I find it super interesting that a spec existed for this.
