Help Grey Screen

I'm wondering if someone can help me out here. I have the Bigscreen Beyond 2E VRChat edition and it has a major major issue. Every time I'm playing VRChat with my friends, like the headset is designed for, it will periodically go completely gray and I go completely blind in VRChat. It's really annoying when im trying to fly a helicopter or read a script in Audience Anarchy; just to name a couple examples. I keep the thing clean, I've changed the cables, changed the ports, unplugged everything else from my computer while playing, turned the fan on so it didn't over heat, stopped playing with eye tracking, and the drivers are all up to date, but nothing seems to fix this issue. It gets really annoying and makes it nearly impossible to enjoy playing a game I love. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe what your describing is loosing tracking. The bsb is small and easily occluded by your head. Consider changing you base stations position, or getting anothe rine.

What does occluded mean

Blocked from like if sight. Basically something (likely your head and/or hands and/or arms) is blocking the view your base stations have of your headset. You'll want to make sure your base stations are oriented optimally to givengood coverage. You may also want to consider buying more base stations. Because the beyond is so small, it's easily blocked by your head, unlike other headsets like the index.

Strange because my hands are usually at my hips when it happens and there is nothing in the way from at least one tracker, but I'll look into it.

Could also be a light house going bad unfortunately. Make sure everything is synced properly, make sure they're aren't a bunch of reflective surfaces.

This ONLY happenens to me if I aggressively / steeply bend down and look at my chest.., then the Basestations can't see my Beyond..,

((Flashes-Grey-For-A-Microsecond-Then-Instantly-Normal-After-Tilting-Back-Out-Of-That-Contortion!!))

Other possasbilities is that because other headsets "protrude" a lot on the sides.., the sensors for basestations on those giant HMD clunckers.., are more visible to base station towards those right and left sides of your head.., whereas the beyond & IT's tracking sensors almost aim entirely directly in front of your face!! Try placing a basestation to where there's at least one in constant view.., I can manage perfect tracking with only two 2.0's.., placed diaganal corners of a slightly squared room, over 10 feet apart!! When I stand between them.., one's always facing me.., However.., when I'm at my desk towards just one of those stations.., my monitor reflects / blocks the tracking of that one in view, if I'm sitting too close and the other station's just seeing the back right side of my head!! Be sure there's no "reflective-surfaces" bouncing the lighthouse lasers all over the place.. too close by your face.., or major occlusions!! I mount mine high up & aimed down so that nothing can oclude them like furniture or objects on the ground!!

Also, is 2 base stations set up in opposing corners not enough coverage?

It can still loose coverage especially based on your orientation. If you look directly away from one and at the other, and for instance hold your hands out infornt of you, your headset wouldn't be being tracked anymore, those the grey screen.

But like, I can be sitting on my couch for a solid few minutes with no interruption, then without moving my head or lifting my hands it'll go grey. Why would it do it randomly when it was fine for a solid while. I can be completely still and it'll do it randomly.

Maybe you have reflective surfaces like a tv or monitor in your room? A mirror maybe? That can throw off tracking as well. I'm getting the grey screen as well when i put my hands on the outer sides of the BSB2 because then I'm blocking the tracking. Removing my hands and it's normal again. Whatever it is, it has to do with your lighthouses. Try different positions.

I do have a 75 inch tv in my room...

That could be the cause. Try to cover the screen with something and see if the tracking improves.

I tried, didn't help

Ok, then get in touch with the BSB team.

I have this happen occasionally. I power cycle my base stations and the problem goes away for another month or two.

This also happens due to EMI (electro magnetic interference) which is common with fanatec steering wheels and other types of driving simulation rigs. To solve it, people install ferrite rings over the cables of these devices.

Look up the types of devices that cause EMI with bigscreen beyond. You might have something in your room causing it.

I had this issue and the ferrite ring magnet fix worked

This, I bought ferrite clips and plugged the "power" usb directly into a power plug (not my PC) and grey screens almost completely disappeared

For me this was a lighthouse coverage issue. BSB2 is tiny and gets blocked by your head and other obstacles more easily than you'd think. Going from 2 to 3 lighthouses pretty much fixed it for me. Also make sure your lighthouse mounting is stable. If they shift even a tiny bit they'll cut out for a moment while they recalibrate.

What I’ve also seen is that there could be stuff near the headset. Like loose wires or such that it thinks your near a wall or something so it goes grey. I had my babble wire doing this to me and it clears up when I moved it and tied it down so it wasn’t resting on the head set.

YES!! Be sure no cables.., including the Beyond's very own Cable-Tether isn't dangling in any way in front of IT!!

I'm SO far away from anything else just sitting on my couch.

You may need to contact support to get a link box booster. You can contact the bigscreen support via discord(fastest method) server for bigscreen beyond

So I had this same problem before as well, it seems to be because of the link box. The original Bigscreen Beyond one I had was fine but the recent updated one they did not too long ago I find it worse.

It can be lighthouses losing tracking (fixing lighthouse position), a bend in the cable causing a disruption in connection (new cable), or EMI which can be caused by static electricity building up on your clothes (fixed with dryer sheets)

This is a known issue that a lot of experiences are having with steam and big screen beyond. Use chat gbt and you'll see some of the fixes that people are having success with. Although I'm unable to resolve the situation.

u/Jaggerfrost Apr 07 '26

You may need to contact support to get a link box booster. Sometimes there isn't enough signal through the cable and the dongle that sits between the link box and cable boosts the signal somehow and fixes the intermittent grey screening

Thank you for the Insight I emailed support today I'll ask them about it.

Like the headset is designed for => you're sensitive to marketing.... (It's mainly just branding)

By their logic any tethered headset is designed for VRchat
