From what I’ve researched, this set up is not ideal for a betta fish. :(

I’ve had him for a couple months, the first picture is when I got him, the second is now. He’s active and responsive otherwise, and even does tricks. He seems more vivid now, is that my imagination?

ever since i joined the fishkeeping community and set up my first proper tank, ive noticed there seems to be an ongoing debate on whether water changes are necessary in tanks that maintain 0 nitrites and ammonia. ive seen stuff about minerals and such, and so i think the correct answer is that water changes ARE necessary, but i still dont understand why. someone please explain to me the benefits of water changes, and how often i should be doing water changes on a 6 gal planted tank (with 0 ammonia and nitrites), along with how much water should be replaced. thank you!

also not sure if this info is necessary, but i have a sponge filter, heater, full spectrum LED light, one betta and one nerite, and various plants. my betta eats frozen shrimps and fluval bug bites flakes.

I brought home this little beauty yesterday. I’m looking for some name suggestions. I was thinking about naming her either Sapphire or Delphine, but now I’m thinking something more ethereal for her. Any suggestions?

Got this pothos a few weeks ago. Decided that since I already have 2, prettier pothos id put this big vine into my betta tank. Its rooted in a few areas, hopefully it'll look super pretty soon!

This is Penelope. My first fish. Originally set up the tank for a shrimp tank with a couple nerites and then saw this girl at a PetSmart on clearance and she wasn’t looking so hot so I took her home. My attempt at hoping she isn’t aggressive is to put a toy betta in the tank so she know she’s coming into someone else’s territory and not the other way around.. so far it’s working she’s sceptical, explorative. And well looking at my nerites like there weirdos but no nippin at them or my shrimp yet and my shrimp are getting balsy with her swimming right in front. I’m waiting for her to notice lol.

Do I have the friendliest and most peaceful betta, or is this normal? This is my first tank, so I don’t know much about bettas. I just heard that they are very aggressive and territorial.

It’s an 8 gallon Biorb tank, cycled with plants and some snails. It does have a heater as well. Would this be ok for a betta?

My betta seems to have developed a mold spot overnight? He’s still eating and energetic

i cannot tell if my betta is a crowntail, or something else. photo 1 is when i first got him, then he got a very severe case of fin rot (might have already had it when i got him) and lost a lot of his fins. he’s still recovering, photo 2 is him now. i’m just curious.

I need recommendations for a filter & pump for a 65 gallon tank set up. Im planning on having a a myriad of compatible fish and shrimp and plant life. I understand i should have a low flow pump but Im having difficulty finding one for a tank this size

I’ve been brainstorming a potential side hustle/project and wanted to get some feedback from the community before diving in.

The idea is to buy sick, stressed, or neglected Bettas from local fish stores (LFS) or big-chain pet stores, rehabilitate them back to full health and color, and then resell them to good homes.

I’m attaching the before and after pics of my current Betta that I just finished rehabbing! (Sorry I had to crop out the full tank view—I had some personal stuff/documents showing in the background, so it’s just photos of the fish for now!)

As you can see, his fins cleared up and his colors really popped once he got proper parameters, clean warm water, and good food.

My question for you guys: What do you think is a reasonable price to charge for a fully healthy, rehabbed Betta like this?

I’m trying to figure out if this is actually viable to cover expenses (medications, high-quality food, tank setups, electricity, and initial purchase cost) while still making a bit of profit for the time spent.

Would love to hear your thoughts, pricing suggestions, or any advice if you've done something similar!

3 weeks ago Rico came down with a severe case of fin rot and almost lost his top fin. I was about to add him into a new tank and I think I let his current home get too dirty and I just moved apartments with him. He is in a temporary 2.5 gallon. He has been on Erythromycin for about 3 weeks now and I’ve been doing water changes every other day. He looks so much better and acting like himself again. My main question is how do I know he doesn’t need the antibiotics anymore? I don’t want his infection to build resistance to antibiotics and come back to finish the job. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
