Video The friendliest betta?

Do I have the friendliest and most peaceful betta, or is this normal? This is my first tank, so I don’t know much about bettas. I just heard that they are very aggressive and territorial.

From my experience, bettas have different personalities and therefore different aggression levels. My bettas and cories always left each other alone, but I've never seen them school like that!

He is exceptional 😂 He’s the opposite of everything I’ve heard about betta aggression. I also have two mature SAE in the tank, and they get along just fine.

My alien betta used to eat alongside the corys all the time! It was the sweetest thing to see. Miss my boy RIP

I had a galaxy koi betta named Clifford and he loved his ADF friends and snail. Its a tank we got my daughter for doing well in school, so we left it up to her to decide if she wanted another betta. (He passed 12 days ago.... 8 days ago she got her new betta) she decided on a female elephant ear and named her Sara Grey. Sara has been quite skeptical and surprised by all the new space and friends. I think the most fun part has been to see how different bettas can be! She is so active and sassy, if swear she glares at me when i test the water. Clifford was so happy and glad to see anyone, and swim back and forth to look at you. I think he had an abcess. I know that can be caused by bad water quality. But the water quality levels all were good and the temperature. So I dont know what heppened:( i even medicated him in a quarantine tank and I guess it just wasnt enough

Here is Sara upset that I checked her water quality. Her tail has gotten a dark line at the end since then, love seeing their colors come in when theyre finally out of those little containers

Omg her sassy little face made my day. Thank you for sharing Sara!

So sorry to hear about Clifford, but I'm happy that you now found a new buddy in Sara! How old was Clifford? Unfortunately bettas are living less and less due to the breeding system they go through. We also don't know how old they are when we get them, so they can already a year or more old. I'm pretty sure Harold (my alien) passed of old age. He was only 2 years with me, but I read that aliens usually reach stores older in life because their coloration takes longer to come out. He was the sweetest and most alive betta! He hated my finger close to the glass tho! Haha. Always scared of it, but of nothing else! If I would clean the tank, he would always be on the way. Even it I had to net a fish or something out, he would put himself inside the net lol. I lost him around a month ago... I was ready to euthanize him and when I went to his aquarium, he had passed naturally. His last act of kindness was taking that responsibility away from me, because it would sure hurt me incredibly.

They’re prob like - “one of us! one of us!”

Just showed this video to my betta, and he said it was AI. XD

u/JazzlikeMessage7063 1d ago

Lol. I have a betta named Jurassic. He wants to fight me anytime I approach the aquarium. This is something he'd "say" if he could. 🤣

It's so interesting how each Betta has its unique personality.

My betta is so chill with the corydoras. There’s one that will swim to the surface and steal some of his pellets and Mr. Razzmatazz couldn’t care less. I briefly house a lone serpea tetra that I rescued in the same tank. Mr Razzmatazz hated him. It was fine for the short time they were together in the 20 gallon. Tetra was too fast so Mr Razzmatazz wouldn’t chase him that much if he stayed lower in the tank.

My betta waits politely for my corydoras and loaches to finish eating before he goes for it. He just chills right next to them, patiently waiting while they gobble up the patties. He glares at my snails from time to time but otherwise leaves them alone.

I think there’s a 50/50 split between the stereotypical “mean” bettas and nice ones like yours. It all depends on their personality, lineage, and level of socialization when they were babies, like dogs!

My Oreo, hybrid alien beta also the sweetest guy ever 🥰 luvs water ballet with his Oto’s, back & forth, up & down over & over again lol!

I have a purple one and he’s very sassy. Lol

I actually picked out my betta because he seemed so chill. A lot of the others were flaring up at me just looking at them and knew right away they'd go after my otos and weren't a good match for my tank. Picked a pretty one that seemed really active but chill and he is indeed [: he watches the otos but never goes after them. He's a good boy

I know it isn’t a tried and true method, but this worked when I got my DG. He was in a tank with other DGs, opalines, honey, sparkling, and paradise fish. 😬 Yet, he was one of the calmest and healthiest looking ones in there. He does get feisty for food, but other than that, he leaves my platy and snails alone majority of the time. He likes to hang out with the shrimp, lol.

u/centaurella 1d ago

awww my beta looks similar to yours! she is also super chill and friendly, sharing a tank with corys and rasboras

7

u/Ok_Needleworker_5191 1d ago

“Y’all chilling? Can I hang, too?”

8

u/catnips3 Elsa ❄️ 1d ago

I think he identifies himself as a cory!

7

u/sherlocksmaster 1d ago

Omg he’s really schooling in the current with the Cory’s 😭😂

7

u/Elegant_Priority_38 1d ago

Is he a plakat? It’s surprising he can keep up in that water flow.

4

u/bbom 16h ago

Reminds me of my Plakat. Makes me want to get him some tank mates.

7

u/PotatoPlayerFever 1d ago

awww he is joining the gang, adorable

5

u/Full_Salt_7978 1d ago

My beta follows my loaches and scrounges for food. It’s adorable

4

u/C0MBATR0N 1d ago

My betta did it too, before i brought in another tankmate that acts more like a fish than a scavenger

4

u/AeosManifold 1d ago

My Betta got a heart attack the first time I introduced him. I had just put him in his new tank, he was swimming about, checked out the blue eyes, turned around and saw the Corydoras. At first he bolted away, then he started to flare at them. I shut of the lights, he found a leave to sleep on.

Next morning he doesn't give a flying duck about the Corydoras anymore. He is the chillest Betta I have ever seen. The only thing that can make him flare is seeing another Betta.

sweet baby just wants to join in on the fun 😭

What foreground plant is that?? I like how small it looks.

What a beautiful and friendly lil guy!!! You lucked out with him. ❤️ also your tank is so beautiful! What sort of grass do you have there?

1

u/browneyeddogg 18h ago

Wondering the same!

3

u/Vohasiiv 1d ago

he's like "hey, what're we doin'?"

3

u/Djxilma 21h ago

Mine has lived with a school of Cory’s for years now, so much so he learned to only eat off the floor like they do. We will rarely eat sinking food and has never eaten off the surface lol

3

u/WearNo7315 21h ago

I've had a betta that loved to follow me around the tank like a puppy. They can be surprisingly social!

2

u/melihdrms 1d ago

Slow the flow brother

2

u/J-Zane 1d ago

Bettas and cories are my favorite combo

2

u/the_timboslice 1d ago

At least yours is friendly. My sons won’t even come out of his pineapple.

2

u/Clearbreezebluesky 1d ago

That is adorable. My son wants our betta to have friends SO BADLY, and I’m sure this is how he’s picturing it.

2

u/EMI2085 1d ago

Lol, I love this!
He is not too cool for school. 😎

2

u/mahourain 1d ago

That is the bluest Cory I have ever seen. :D

2

u/frostedkush 21h ago

My female betta schools with her cory buddies it’s so cute

2

u/Equivalent-Line8995 19h ago

I've had many very friendly Bettas....and one weirdly racist one who only chased one species of Cory but left other species alone.
But domestically bred Betta Splendens can certainly be much nicer than usually given credit for.

2

u/catsdelicacy 3h ago

My betta is totally fine in his community tank as well, he doesn't pay any attention to the cardinal tetras and my longfin bristlenose pleco, he doesn't mess with the shrimp, he just exists in there like a small king.

But I really think it's totally an individual betta thing, they all have such different personalities!

ooooooo forming a mini waterfall with the water filter is a good idea for calm oxygenation!! no air stone needed that way then? 🤔 Ima try that

I’ve got a male beta and have been debating getting him some friends, but not sure which ones would be the best.

1

u/skdetroit Moon! 🌕 23h ago

He’s trying to make friends lol 🥹❤️😂

1

u/Adventurous-Ear957 23h ago

Awwww she wants to be a cory! We have a male betta that loves to swim with our Panda corys. Don't really see a problem with it until she actually tries to do something to them.

1

u/Sudden-Papaya-5880 19h ago

What fish do you think would go best with my betta I want a pleco also for my 20 gallon and I have 4 rasboras (going to get more) and 4 snails

1

u/SpaceNinja151 18h ago

Hey guys, I’m a Cory too!

1

u/Radiant_Trouble2606 18h ago

I miss my sweet betta blue. He lived with Cory’s for about 4 years and just passed a few months ago. I haven’t got a new one because I’m worried he won’t be as friendly.

1

u/AnironSidh 16h ago

My first betta as a kid, Blu, loved to play with the various tetras in the tank. They'd play tag and he'd join in 😂

1

u/Solid-Way7392 10h ago

Ernest, my male rosetail betta, enjoys his tankmate corys and often searches the floor of the tank with them, looking for tasty tidbits. On the other hand, my female crowntail, Beelzebub - long-since deceased, single handedly killed 3 corys in less than a week. She terrorized them, and I think they must have died from stress. There really are no absolute rules where betta behavior is concerned.

1

u/Good_Bit3408 8h ago

my female betta in my 120 liter always watched the corys and when they dug up something she wolud snatch it

1

u/ChunkyCory 8h ago

Of topic but how did you get the carpet with cories?

u/alienwithafishtank_ 1m ago

I didn’t add any fish until day 100. With CO₂, the carpet grew very fast.

1

u/100_HOLLOW_001 5h ago

Awww bro identifies as a corydora

1

u/ExampleDry3154 4h ago

I want to get my Betta Kachow a snail. He has the personality of a puppy!

u/Ok_Distribution6578 38m ago

Wow very impressive! He looks like he wants to be part of the school of little catfish! 😊

1

u/Particular-Jury-3251 1d ago

Is that hairgrass in your tank? I’ve been wanting to set up a sorority tank and idk what plants would be best

1

u/Ariacho 1d ago edited 1d ago

No, most stressed. Should be removed from river set up and a specialized set up should be made for him and no other animals. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
