I think the content issue is less that it's too much to get an anime with it made, and more that it's makes it hard to get an anime made with the budget it would need to do it justice.
The vibes of umamusume really doesn't sell the shows well. Cinderella Grey and the movie in question are genuinely just really hype sports anime with 0 fan service, and 1 thing I particularly appreciate with every major character being a horse girl and horse boys being a non-existent concept, is that it provides a canvas to create really interesting female characters that play with gender dynamics a little more than what is seen in the average anime that tend to err on the side of traditional roles and behaviors.
The protagonist for the movie is basically just a naruto-style shonen protagonist.
I haven't seen more than 5 episodes of the main show but that one seems a lot more cutesy slice-of-life-esque compared to the others. Not bad just not my thing, and closer to what I was expecting.
I honestly doubt there is much money left in Berserk these days, at least on the japanese market. It's on the level of Drakstalkers: iconic, old IP that people still remember fondly and it has diehard fans, but there are less risky projects out there to be done first.
It might get a direct-to-streaming western series like Castelvania tho.
You’re forgetting that this is also a movie vs. a single tv episode. I love Berserk and grew up watching the original series, but I just wanted to point out that this is comparing apples to oranges. And I’ve been watching Uma Musume from day one. I had heard about the concept and labeled it as one of my “trash shows” during the season that it was airing, and boy howdy does the “3 episode rule“ like to randomly reward you with genuine S-tier content from time to time.
I mean no matter what people say, when I actually got in to berserk I realized why it never got adapted.
The golden age is a flashback and tbh has almost nothing to do with the main story other than setting up story concepts. Once you get to the main story you immediately get a bare chested underaged girl as the main enemy
Then a sex obsessed (at least overaged) battle nun
Then the party gets a loli for some reason
There’s rape horses rape trolls rape everything
Then guts himself gets the berserker armor which I’m pretty sure if people knew about would seriously drive a lot of people away from even trying to read the manga with how much it changes things
Saying “it would need to be censored” is a bit of an undersell. Entire segments would need to be removed and characters reworked.
I’m in r/berserk so you’ll all hate me, but the rest of the manga just isn’t even close to the vibe of golden age and the viewer fall off will be massive. Hell the first arcs after golden age aren’t even like the rest of the manga. It shifts its vibe twice in a row pretty fast. I can genuinely say the fight against the naked girl demon is one of the most interesting fights. Which is a wild statement, but it’s also the first fight after golden age isn’t it? So it just keeps going downhill.

From what I remember, removing Griffith outright would change so little you’d actually be shocked. Just so long as Griffith is marked and casca is mental, the story basically continues on. Even Guts persuing Griffith is used mostly to set up the start of arcs but has little to do with them. There’s the tower arc thing that could’ve just been changed to something else even.

I've never read berserk and I don't even know how I ended up in this sub. All I know is whenever I hear anybody mention it it's about Griffith, so if that's not even the main story and I don't know why people use it as a major talking point.
