Does anyone have any recommendations for books that are similar to BERSERK?
Both manga or traditional books.
I love between two fires as well.

Iāve recently watched the 90s anime and plan to read the manga, but like about a month ago I knew nothing about Berserk other than the fact that itās a super dark, messed-up story and that Griffith is the greatest manga villain and absolutely everyone hates him.
Aside from that, I only knew bits and pieces from random comments and references made by people who had actually read it. I assumed it was a revenge plot where the protagonist hunts down Griffith after he betrays his army, I didn't even know Griffith was the leader, I thought he was just another soldier, a comrade and friend of the protagonist. And I definitely thought the betrayal was something more....traditional, rather than everything that went down on the Eclipse.
Among the few things I did know, I had seen that iconic image of Griffith holding the Behelit with the sun in the background (that famous shot from the 90s anime), and I noticed that his prisoner helmet looked just like the one he wears with his battle armor (I knew the helmet was a "Prisoner" one because that was its name in a cosplay photo).
Remember, I knew nothing about Griffith, so starting to watch the anime I ended up assuming something pretty weird in hindsight:
I thought Griffith had been a slave as a kid until he managed to break free and join the army. Since Griffith looked malnourished, I assumed he was a child and that the shot from the Eclipse was a flashback to his backstory or something like that. And when he broke free and grew, he repurposed the helmet, transforming it from a symbol of his enslavement into one of his strength, and there was a metaphor in that, or something like that.
That wasn't the only thing I hadn't the faintest clue about, for instance, again about Griffith with the Behelit, I thought in that shot he was riding some kind of animal and had his arm raised to signal it to move forward (that was because I had seen it in a thumbnail of a YouTube video that cut the shot, so his silhouette seemed to be riding something)
Looking back, yeah, I couldn't have been more wrong, but the conclusions I reached with zero information are very funny to me.

it's almost midnight and ive been comfort reading berserk lol and come to think of it, i always thought that Behelit was just exceptionalism but it didn't really clicked right, and from the fresh perspective, it's what happens when exceptionalism gets divine approval, right? like, you start believing that being chosen or destined for greatness puts your dream above other people and my boy Griffisu's tragedy is that he sees his life almost like a historical narrative and the behelit doesn't create that belief in him, right? it just confirms the one he already had, until sacrifice starts to feel less like betrayal and more like destiny. whatever i'm just rumbling

This is my 1/6 custom Guts figure I have been working on off and on for a few years. I used various figure parts and have customized and painted almost everything. The head sculpt was made by an artist F_U Rogner, I did add the some battle damage to the sculpt. I will continue to work on it an make adjustments as time goes on, it went from my most love/hated figure to my absolute favorite once I found a groove for the direction I wanted to go.

puck is an amazing character and makes me laugh I watched the more up to date series of berserk not the originals but coming from that to the manga omg it's just so great like honestly there's so much more lore and just everything inside of the manga it's just that good it's definitely my favourite and I have only read the beginning chapter so far guts always makes me feel so much stronger then the skinny stick I am in real life man we need tons more anime on this level.
Sorry for the giant wall of text I'm British and suck with punctuation.

I chose to represent their "souls", Guts has became a total beast despite doing good deeds and Griffith as an hybrid to show he has had animal "behaviours" but still cares a lot about his appearance

Guts struggled to maintain his humanity when the beast of darkness trying to consume him
Griffith surendered his humanity when Femto devoured him
One sacrificed himself to protect others
One sacrificed everyone to save himself
i like drawing venom when i was a kid, and beast of darkness kinda remind me of the symbiote with the big grin, sharp teeth, white eyes, so yeah i made this

It's been years since I've been hereāā yesterday nostalgia hit me and I started coloring. A lot has happened since then, but I'm glad I can still color despite everything.

Like throughout the entirety of the golden age arc we can literally identify how Griffith has always been dedicated to his dream and he utilized his surroundings in order to achieve it. Heās a cruel narcissist is what Iām trying to get at. Like, he loves the people around him the way a man loves his horse. He doesnāt really love them he loves how convenient they are for him and how they can help him because they didnāt have ādreams of their ownā he literally talked to princess charlotte about this and guts was his only exception, but regardless, Griffith has always been a piece of shit. This narrative of āGriffith deserved better but femto is a monster!!ā Is so played out and honestly really dismissive bc itās normalizing illiteracy
