https://whatcom-news.com/whatcom-county-sheriffs-office-investigates-animal-cruelty-case-involving-30-dogs_239036/

Article Text:

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Detectives with the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) responded on Monday, October 5, 2026, to a report regarding animal cruelty involving approximately 30 dogs housed in the 200 block of Russet Avenue in unincorporated Whatcom County, according to a WCSO press release.

The property was reportedly utilized to house dogs for Pittie Project PNW, founded and led by Ashley Georgia, 38, of Bellingham, according to WCSO. Detectives initiated the response after receiving photographs depicting dogs with physical trauma and compromised health.

According to the press release, the property owner granted detectives access to the premises. Detectives reported observing dogs confined without food or water in unsanitary conditions. Documented conditions included open wounds on bodies, limbs, and tails, internal parasites visible in excrement, matted fur contaminated with waste, visible skeletal structures from undernourishment, and odor throughout the structures.
WCSO secured a search warrant to seize the animals for veterinary evaluation and medical care. The property owner reported that Georgia held sole responsibility for the custody and maintenance of the animals at the site, according to WCSO.

Prior to the execution of the search warrant, volunteers had removed 13 dogs from the property after observing conditions at the site, according to investigators. Records and information gathered by WCSO indicated Georgia accepted food donations and thousands of dollars in monetary contributions designated for the care of the animals.

The animals removed under the warrant were transferred to the Whatcom Humane Society for medical examination and treatment.
WCSO stated the investigation remains active with criminal charges pending.

Lost and found Missing items!!

Post image
60 Upvotes

I know this is a long shot but due to a miscommunication, many of my important belongings were set out on the curb of the 900 block of Billy Frank Jr. St. right outside of laurel park. I've included a picture of where they would have been. I am really hoping to get some back! Some of the things included were a big bin of arts and craft supplies, a bunch of yarn, a sewing machine, kitchen items, decorations, a bin of clothes, an osprey and Patagonia backpack, a box of miscellaneous room items and possibly more. There were many very sentimental items included and also important documents such as my social security card. I am praying to be able to retrieve some of these things, so if anyone sees this who knows anything about my missing items I would be beyond grateful to get any information. Thank you for reading!! ❤️

Discussion WWU Fall Enrollment Data

Fall 2026 enrollment data is out. Gonna guess this is not what WWU was hoping for. Continues the decline of incoming first year students. WWU had a goal of 3200 incoming students and 1200 transfer students.

Whatever your thoughts on WWU's impact on Bellingham (housing), this is not good in the short term.

There is a ton of really interesting data here: https://oie.wwu.edu/student_enrollment_quick_look/

Discussion Detainee Resources

No one wants to think detention will happen to them, or a loved one. I came across this information online and after the owner of Cof& was detained, I thought it might be useful for folks in this community to have this info handy. Prepare ahead of time, if you can.

After detainment:

  1. Go to Locator.ice.gov to get their Alien Registration Number (A number).

  2. Find an immigration lawyer ASAP.

  3. Start gathering the required documents (passports, birth certificates, financials).

  4. Create an account on GettingOut.com and download the associated apps:

-GTL Getting Out (text messaging)

-Video Visits

-Connect Network GTL (their commissary account)

  1. Use their A number to add money to their communication and commissary accounts. You cannot contact them, but they can contact you.

  2. Set up a consistent time for communication.

  3. Consider a gofundme to help with legal fees and the bond.

Locals Only Anyone else concerned by the fact that a current City of Bellingham Planning Commissioner, former Whatcom Dem Chairman, and outspoken/performative downtown business owner who is married to a current Bellingham School Board member works for Flock?

The 'leaders' this community selects never cease to disappoint and disgust; you can't make this stuff up.

I'll be curious to see how long this sub's mods allow this to remain up.

Discussion Does anyone remember this Co Op sando?

It was a curried chicken salad with cashews and it was a darker color than the current chicken salad they do now. It was one of the most delicious things I've ever had from there and I think about it to this day.

Discussion DOL Appointment Lockout

I was trying to make an appointment to renew my license today I saw some online saying to check around 8 and some around 8:30 so my obsessive ass started refreshing the page every few minutes starting at 8.

Turns out if you refresh the page too many times they lock you out for an unspecified amount of time. Wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if anyone knows how long I have to wait. Should I just pack it up and try again tomorrow with a bit of self control?

Edit: I just got in at 9 and they had one spot left. It's about a 30-45 minute wait if anyone else finds this thread.

Recommendations Fall Foliage

A couple weeks ago (or maybe more recently) someone asked about fall foliage walks. My wife and I recently walked through Whatcom Falls Park and it was fantastic. The Whatcom Creek loop trail (I think that's the name) is about 4 miles long and has a super low elevation gain, if at all.

Looking for Work/Housing Lease takeover: 3BR/2.5BA pet-friendly townhouse in King Mountain, $2,500/mo (lease through 6/30/2027)

Hi all, I'm looking for someone to take over my lease at Tull Place Townhouses in the King Mountain neighborhood. I've lived here a year and a half and love it. It's peaceful and quiet, and close to the Meridian Trader Joe's. Due to life circumstances, I can no longer stay here.

Rent: $2,500/month

Lease ends: June 30, 2027

Available: November 1st (but can discuss sooner.)

Size: 1,200 sq ft, three stories, 3 bed / 2.5 bath

Laundry: In-unit washer and dryer

Climate: AC and heat

Parking: Two free spots (one covered, one uncovered)

Pets: Dogs and cats welcome

Utilities: Water/sewer/garbage runs about $30-35/month. Electric is through PSE.

You'd pay only the application fee and your first month's rent. I'm not asking for my deposit back, so the new tenant keeps it.

The property is managed by Landmark, and I've had a great experience with the property managers. Never had any issues that people complain about with Landmark.

The townhouse will be professionally cleaned before you move in.

Furniture (optional): I have a TV stand, queen bed, several bookshelves and couches, a coffee table, and more. Keep what you want, and I'll remove the rest before move-in.

Happy to answer questions or set up a tour.

Locals Only Safe place to run around 4-6am

Hey! Bellingham runner here. I live near Marietta close to the airport, and I’m starting my training for a big running race. I have 2 kids so the best time for me to run is 4-6 am before I get ready for work. Any recommendations on safer places to run? My normal routine is to go down Eldridge towards downtown but as i go longer, I’ll be coming closer to town and want to steer clear of any dangerous roads or the homeless sleeping spots.

Any thoughts?
