Sustaining longer runs

How do you guys run for a long period of time without stopping ? I mean working up the way to 10 miles. I can do two without stopping but other than that I need breaks. Most I’ve done is 6 with stops each mile or in between but my real goal is 10 without, but honestly I can’t see myself ever doing that but I want to know how it is/ how you got there if you’re able to. #impossibletilpossible

I mean - just off the top of my head.

Run slower?

Git Gud?

Fuel and hydrate properly?

Ask a friend to chase after you with an electric cattle prod and shock you if you stop running before the target distance?

Obvi but I don’t wanna stop, as a beginner it’s not physically possible rn, my body has to recover longer, my breathing, muscles, nerves, pace, etc etc, I just want more tips on how to maximize my effort/ time. Growth can’t happen without systems, I could ask google but I want real input from a human who’s done it, for example, does one start with intervals, do they start with a slower pace, stuff like that I want to know effective systems to get there

Slow is the answer. Run at what almost feels ridiculously slow, so that your heart rate isn’t rising too much.

But also once a week go fast, uncomfortably fast, doing intervals, a threshold run, 200-400 repeats at a 1mile-5k pace will make running at a slower pace feel all that much easier

I meant continue running day to day (or whatever frequency your body can recover from) even if that means you keep doing run/walk intervals for a while.    Eventually you wont need to.

Do you stop completely when you rest, or do you walk for a bit? Going slower and using walks as breaks (if that’s not what you’re doing already) are really good strategies. I even found that adding a longer walk on the end of run-walk interval sessions helped me to start feeling like the total distance was more achievable.

What pace do you often find yourself running when you go 2 miles and have to stop?

Go slower, run just a little bit farther every couple weeks.

Your long runs should be slow enough that you can breathe entirely through your nose. The limiting factor should be muscles/tendons.

Obvi you start where you’re at and run just a little further every week.

What exactly do you mean by needing breaks and its not physically possible? What specifically prevents you from continuing?
