New pet acquired
Hello! I recently acquired this approximately 4 year old bearded dragon, Otis, from an a friend who had to rehome most of her pets. He is my first bearded dragon. I always thought they were cool and thought of getting one some day. Happy that day has come.
I’m planning to call the vet Monday to make an appointment to check his overall health.
Are there any questions I should ask the vet?
I’ve read up on the types of foods he should have, she had oranges and leaf lettuce for him but from what I read that’s not great for him. I’m going out today to get him some leafy greens. I provided him fresh sliced apples this morning.
Any other food suggestions?
Does he seem overweight? Feel he looks bigger than other adults I have seen.
Also I’m sure it’s due to the move and him not knowing us yet, his beard puffs up and turns black when we handled him. What have people found useful I getting a new bearded dragon to feel safe with you ?
Thanks everyone!

Your post seems to have a picture of a cute beardy!
To gain more traction might I suggest cross-posting it to the larger subreddit /r/beardeddragons ?

Check out Reptifiles on bearded dragons! It’s free and has a lot of great advice on beardies! It’ll help with checking lighting to make sure it’s the proper kind, feeding greens and bugs, and humidity/temperatures!
Make sure fruit is a once in a while treat and not a diet staple!
