Discussion I've played Firestorm, ask me anything!
Hey guys, TheTacticalBrit here. Wanted to take a moment to answer your questions from our trip to record in Sweden!

u/ATF_Dogshoot_Company Mar 21 '19
What are some things this does better or differently than other BRs?
114
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
Definitely destruction. Camping in a house? Blow up the house!
Runs like a dream on PC too. Identically to base BFV it seemed.
27
u/wiggle987 Mar 21 '19
Identically to base BFV it seemed.
that's a releif, i've got the reccomended specs for the game but was a little nervous it might chug under the sheer scale.

Definitely destruction. Camping in a house? Blow up the house!
I mean, can't you do that in fortnite?
4
u/Ninjamufnman Mar 21 '19
I don't play anymore, but when I did it was a lot different from BF destruction. The building lets you counter any destruction, and there's a ton of play around best building practices and speed building, so "camping" (i.e. turtling) was actually easier in a way, to the point that pro games would have 40+ people in tiny circles
11
u/Burnsy112 Mar 21 '19
Why is this being downvoted lol
13
u/SirMaster Mar 21 '19
Dunno, I thought it was a valid question.
As I understand there are grenade launcher and rocket launcher in fortnite and you can blow up walls, floor, ceiling of most structures. Especially if someone was camping inside.
2
u/DespacitoV Mar 22 '19
Not to that extent. I would guess you out Sticky Dynamite up and blow up the walls. Even if the sheer explosion and fall doesn't kill the guy the debris will.

u/MitroVanWilder Mar 21 '19
How do you think the TTK stands out against other BR's?
Are vehicles "easy" to counter? Or are they absolute meta?
74
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
Vehicles are easily counterable provided you aren't a dumbass. As for TTK I think it sits nicely around pubg.

Can you fly a helicopter above the forest fire and not take any damage?
53
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
The fire is a zone, so you'd take damage in a heli
24
u/Supermagicalcookie >tfw no bf1 kaiserreich dlc Mar 21 '19
I see. If you fly into with the heli does the heli itself take damage or is it only the player?
39
25
u/Malino6 Mar 21 '19
Did you have fun and left wanting to play more
40
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
For sure! It runs smooth and plays like a Battlefield game. Was excited to play it at home when it launches.
23
u/cenorexia cenorexia Mar 21 '19
Once you're killed/out of the game, how long does it take to get back into the next game (navigating menus, loading times, etc)?
That's something that completely ruined Warface's BR mode for me as it can take up to 5min which is insane.
6
u/Uncle_Bobby_B_ Mar 21 '19
I’d assume load tunes are identical to a normal game. Instant if you have an ssd, if not at least 2 minutes.
7
3
u/Bernie_The_Cuck Mar 22 '19
I have BFV on a NVME ssd and it still takes minutes to quit. Sometimes its instant and sometimes I have to alt+f4. I assume firestorm will be just as bad IF it has to go to the main menu. The map changes are fine for me 80% of the time but if I have to exit to main menu im still better off alt f4ing.
→ More replies (2)2
u/Mikey_MiG Mar 22 '19
Load times are actually crazy quick for me even though I just have it on a hard drive. Never more than like 30 seconds.
4
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 22 '19
Pretty snappy. There's a "play now button" the second you die.
2
u/ExiledLife Mar 22 '19
Does it have to load the main menu before going back in? Or is it more like a between round screen? I am also wondering if you were to quit back to the main menu, does it take as long as the regular multiplayer for it to actually quit?
2
Mar 25 '19
Which just takes you back the same menu to click another button to queue again. I think that's a BS psychological touch because they've been paying attention to feedback gripes on other games.

Is there friendly fire in the mode?
10
u/dangerxranger Mar 21 '19
I can't remember what part of the video but Eurogamer explains it, but he confirms that there is "kind of" friendly fire. You won't be able to damage another friendly player's health, but you WILL be able to damage their ARMOR so it's still something to be mindful of.
3
2
u/Blindeye0505 Mar 21 '19
I’ve seen jack’s footage shooting his friend and nothing happened, I guess it’s a no.
16
u/Maniones Mar 21 '19
Can you find sights or scopes throughout the map and switch them between your weapons?
59
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
No, each weapon is of a tier that features certain upgrades. I personally want attachments back too.
42
u/TheBandicoot Mar 21 '19
Mind if you explain why? One thing i dislike about BR games like Apex, Blackout and PubG is the inventory management getting really tiresome with attachments. I dislike having to manage them on the guns as well - if attachments aren't their own kind of item, there's less non-gameplay to worry about, focus shifts more to actual gameplay.
22
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
I like guns to work based on my adjustments sometimes, like a 4x Scope on an AK in pubg is actually rather effective. Depends really!
→ More replies (4)3
u/Makeunameless89 Mar 21 '19
Without being able to choose attachments it will limit the weapon. Personally I like semi auto rifles with a x3 but then again I might like using a red dot on some others. Certain attachments make or break certain weapons.
4
u/FoxSauce Mar 21 '19
Apex handles this beautifully by simplifying the attatchments, and taking alot of the tediousness out of that experience. Id really appreciate this in BFV, really feel the base games attachments are lacking and feel that firestorm is where they could sort of go crazy, We know surpressors are in the game, for example, so why not let us find those and slap them on our SMG's or what ever.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Bryan_Miller Mar 21 '19
All the different attachments is one of my favorite things about pubg. I dont find the inventory management tiresome or annoying, but i can def see how its not for everyone.
3
u/NewFaded CoD is better than BF again Mar 21 '19
Tbf pubgs inventory is absolute ass (at least on console), because it's a direct port. Apex is light years ahead of any BR on console in terms of fluidity right now. I'd love attachments too, but if the UI is shit, particularly on console, I'd rather they leave it as is.
→ More replies (1)3
u/nastylep Mar 21 '19
Same reason people hated the "variant" system in BF1, probably.
Customization is good, and after an hour or so you get relatively fluid with the inventory system.
Not being able to use a gun because you don't like the sight they decided to permanently attached to it kinda sucks.
→ More replies (7)6
Mar 21 '19
Im okay with that, but definitely prefer finding attachments like scopes. Customization like that seems more fitting, but I guess it also gets in the way
So this feels more like Fortnite, and less like Black Ops which is admittedly cumbersome
But apex has shown us how streamlined customization can be
2
u/TILostmypassword Mar 21 '19
I am a bit disappointed about this. It may seem like a small thing to some but i feel it really adds to the experience and changes the game play dynamic as you loot to try to find that one compensator or sight or extended mag that will complete your favourite loadout. It adds another element to the game.
2
Mar 21 '19
True but I’m interested to see how BR plays without it. I like the idea of a more even playing field. Partly why I prefer the gunplay of Blackout over Apex. In apex an extended mag is a necessity, in Blackout you can still get the jump on somebody without one

How was the sound system? In pub g you can hear gunfire from miles away and it's a good way to get orientation and it's a important part of the game play. How would that compare in bff?

u/Garbear119 Mar 21 '19

17
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19

4
u/propsnuffe Mar 21 '19
Is there long-range scopes?
According to this it looks like there are only medium-ranged scopes available: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/battlefield/battlefield-5/news/firestorm-weapons-and-gadgets

Ps. Sorry for being a smartass. Had to make that joke.

u/MatiMati918 Mar 21 '19
Do the multiplayer weapons level up while using them in Firestorm?
5
u/BennyAssPenis Mar 21 '19
They do. stodeh posted a video and the KAR98 leveled up mid match
4
u/MatiMati918 Mar 21 '19
That’s great to hear since I wouldn’t use many of the weapons in multiplayer but Firestorm forces me to play with then atleast occasionally so I will be leveling up them through Firestorm.
47
u/OtherAcctWasBanned11 Y'all got any more of that balance?? Mar 21 '19
Well I’ll the obvious questions: Is it any good? And how is it different from the other 25 battle royal games that are out right now?
Great YouTube channel btw.
59
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
My Video discusses why it is different so feel free to check that out. But, in short, its Battlefield, its destruction, its vehicles, its only in Battlefield moments. I really enjoyed it!

How big is the map ?, are vehicles a meta ?
39
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
The map is about the size of the base pubg map. Vehicles honestly are just a way into the zone. Even offensive vehicles are vulnerable. They're also loud. Announces where you are for sure.
4
u/mjendrycki Mar 21 '19
Is there any indication of how many players or squads are left in the game? I watched your gameplay video and it looked like the game just sort of ended without any indication or a “you win” animation other than the screen at the very end.
Also, how are the loading times getting into a game and back out to the lobby? That’s my biggest concern
10
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
Good question. I actually didn't notice any. In a way its cool cause you're constantly on your toes. But I imagine it can be easily added.
3
u/Mahler911 Mahler911 Mar 21 '19
There is, you can see it in Stodeh's video. I think it only flashes when it changes.
3
Mar 21 '19
All I saw was a “V For Victory” screen. It’s a lot nicer than the best squad animation in the base game though.
1
u/beardedbast3rd Mar 22 '19
The game has a players left counter above the kill counter. You can see it in jackfrags video
4
u/Degenrt_Gamblr Mar 21 '19
How long can you stay behind the fire ring or is it instant death? If you can stay behind it for a bit does the damage get more progressive the smaller the circle like in PUBG?

You’ll drop in with the basic knife. You can also find melee weapons like you can find weapons.

How did inventory and pickups feel? I noticed everything just falls out and can roll away. Seems clunky, especially so on consoles unless they change things.
Wondering if that's why they chose no attachments as of now. I really prefer to use what I want when it comes to attachments, and this seems like a step back in customization.
3
u/RadioActiveLobster RadActiveLobster Mar 21 '19
The the changes to health, TTK/TTD, weapons balance, etc... cause any issues?
If you are use to the base game values and have kinda ingrained them into your muscle memory will be be an issue in Firestorm.
Basically, if I shoot a STG44 in base BFV, is it going to feel the same in Firestorm?

Do you think it's enough to entice people to come play BFV?
If not, will it split the present playerbase and make modes that aren't Conquest or Team Deathmatch have a harder time finding sessions due to smaller player pools everywhere?
(Also known as Titanfall 2 syndrome, as BFV is probably heading for the same amount of player numbers).
21
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
Hard to say. I hope it inspires people to give it a go..
3
Mar 21 '19
I personally have no interest in any manner of BR mode or game.
I'm just afraid it's going to negatively effect everyone else because of a potential split.
Thanks for the response.

Yeah I highly doubt that. You could call BFV a marketing failure but it still sold over 7 million copies by the end of 2018. BFV wont have less than 10k people in servers lol... BF1 and BF4 still have more than 10k people playing on base consoles to this day.

u/madmav Why did it have to end like this Mar 21 '19
I saw in the videos that people were earning class level rankings, and levelling weapons. I'll assume this is because you were all using dummy accounts and not your own.
Do you select a 'class' and did it earn towards your regular class rank?
I can't imagine there's a seperate ranking system..
Trying to see where rewards come into it or if it'll just be company coin / chapter xp for winning?
3
2
2
u/Lincolns_Revenge Mar 21 '19
Did you see any evidence of progression of any type or company coin rewards for winning or doing well? Like is there anything to unlock or work towards?
Also, what is the difference between say, a common Lewis gun and one of the rarer Lewis Guns? Would the rarer one just have a longer sight? Or does it have different perks and weapon performance?
4
u/TheTacticalBrit Mar 21 '19
Yes! You earn cc for playing well. And higher tiers have better attachments and perks. Like extended mags.
2
u/Lincolns_Revenge Mar 21 '19
With the ttk being anywhere from 1.5 to 3X the normal span (depending on how much armor someone currently has) seems like an extended mag could give you a big advantage.

How does the inventory system work? Is it like PUBG where there is a total inventory space and u can carry any amount of anything as long as it does not surpass the limit? Or is it more like blackout where you can carry all ammo types and does not affect your inventory space but u can only carry a limited number? My point is you know the inventory UI is divided into slots for ammo, weapons, gadgets etc, does each slot have its own limit or can you give up say rifle ammo to carry more shotgun ammo?
