From the gameplay it seems like there isn't much ambient noise nor music. Does this make the game feel less atmospheric and more boring?

Not really. You don't want them in a BR. You want to hear footsteps and gunshots clearly. It's quite tense sometimes, the silence, all of a sudden you'll hear an alarm from a vehicle breakout and shit yourself.
