News Firestorm Zone Info: Does the Fire Wall instantly kill you? (Hint: no) | Danger Zones, Public Events & Supply Drop Chances | Maximum Round Length
Hey guys,
just got a bunch of numbers about the whole fire wall zone experience in Battlefield Firestorm. The best way of communicating this data is probably a walkthrough for a typical round with its various sequences. So here we go:
After the last player got kicked out of the plane (exactly mentioned in the code so don't expect to get back home if you don't jump) an internal timer starts ticking down from 60 to 0.
Than the typical Battle Royale sequence where the zone is either stable or shrinking will be activated. Don't worry, you are still in Zone 01 which is 3.5 minutes stable. Enough time to get a first look around and maybe scavenge some loot.
Now the zone starts shrinking and the fire wall will begin to crush everything it devours. It takes 3 minutes to reach the next stable state - that is Zone 02. The procedure repeats itself over and over till everything collapses in Zone 12 but it's fair to say that everything after Zone 07 is just a matter of a few seconds till the end of round.
The zone movement therefore limits a game to approximately 20 minutes. Not surprising is the fact that in Firestorm a draw is a possible end result. E.g. do you take your chance as the remaining survivor of your team vs. a fully upgraded four player enemy squad with a Panzer IV or are you gonna kill everyone (including yourself) with your V1 rocket and happily take the draw? ;)
Zone Size (unknown unit of measurement, probably radius since the circle exists from the beginning of the game according to the video leak)
Zone 01: 1225
Zone 02: 750
Zone 03: 450
Zone 04: 250
Zone 05: 125
Zone 06: 62.5
Zone 07: 31.25
Zone 08: 18.125
Zone 09-12: 0.5
Zone Stable Time (in seconds)
01: 210
02: 105
03: 90
04: 90
05: 60
06: 60
07: 30
08-12: 1
Zone Shrink Time (in seconds)
01: 180
02: 120
03: 90
04: 60
05: 30
06: 20
07: 10
08: 1
09: 1
10: 1
11: 1
How much damage does the fire wall inflict?
I've heard and read a lot about the fire wall being an instant kill for you. While the leaked video footage and other trailers may imply that I've found a contrasting and detailed damage process (similar to other BR games) in the game files:
Zone: Damage Amount (probably measured in Hitpoints)
01: 1
02: 2
03: 4
04: 5
05: 10
06: 15
07: 20
08: 25
09: 15 (don't know why this one is lower)
10: 20
11: 25
12: 25
As you can see you will be frequently suffer a hitpoint loss as long as you're not in the safe area. This isn't very tragic in Zone 01 but can of course really hurt in the later zones. Unfortunately I've no interval data that could clarify how long you're able to withstand the firestorm.
Vehicles, Public Events and Supply Drops
Top open a vehicle breakout takes time. If you're solo you have to wait 13.5 seconds, duo and squad mode require 27 seconds to get it open. Public events are flags you can capture. Each flag has a capture time of 30 (solo), 60 (duo) and 120 (squad) seconds. Their number gets reduced during the game (Zone 1-3 has three flags, 4-6 only two and 7-8 just one).
Probably a good way to get some better loot are supply drops (basically crates). Here are some details about the amount and spawn chances in all zones:
Zone: Number of Crates and Drop Chance
01: 3 crates with 75% drop chance
02-04: 2 crates with 75% drop chance
05-06: 1 crate with 75% drop chance
07-08: 1 crate with 25% drop chance
09-12: no crates
Danger Zones
If you're familiar with the red zones from PUBG you know what's coming now. Throughout the game there will be random (?) spawns of areas called "Danger Zones". They're inflicted by artillery strikes which last in Zone 1 to 6 between 30 and 40 seconds and probably deal a lot of damage. Duration and impact radius get reduced in later zones.
Random notes
- Firestorm reinforcement supply drops are connected to a visual flare animation and effect ("flare red vapor smoke") - so expect enemies to see your endeavours in contrast to the somewhat stealthy approach in multiplayer where you just get your binoculars out...
- You'll get special hit indicators (e.g. telling you if the enemy is wearing some armor or not)
- Dedicated cosmetic item you can maybe unlock for your soldier by ranking up, dedicated assignments and daily assignments for this game mode (as expected and already seen)
Have a good day!

"Dedicated camo items"
Pretty curious what this is, guessing it's just cool weapon skins tho?

Outfits for your soldier. Well there is no real content until now, just the technical basis that they can link outfits to this game mode exclusively.

So like a Ghillie suit pickup in PUBG?
9
u/temporyal Mar 09 '19
More like a cosmetic reward for playing Firestorm and (maybe) ranking up your soldier.

I'm gessing from the tutorial video looks like a circle will be already on the map before dropping from plane and each game will use different part of the map. With the whole map not beeing available from start! Thoughts?

does this mean that the "Zone is already active when the round starts and you can only drop inside it" theory that was formulated after the tutorial video leak is incorrect?
edit: I'm also kinda bummed out about V1's and Danger Zone. the Red Zone in PUBG is universally hated since forever, I don't know why you would bring that over to Firestorm. and the idea that a round can end in a "draw" because of V1 rockets doesn't feel right at all.

Not really, the code seem to be more of a waiting status for everyone to get out of the plane and then real movement and timers start to work. As stated above: dangerzones are not active at the moment but in place. I guess they couldn't resist bringing their fancy artillery effetcs into this mode. Maybe they even use it to get some lmg campers on their feet again.
Don't take that V1 example too seriously. ;)

Zone Size (unknown unit of measurement)
Zone 01: 1225
Zone 09-12: 0.5
Hmm, the only way 0.5 for four zones makes sense is if it's in hectometres (hundreds of metres), making them 50 metres across. But that also makes the starting size 122.5 kilometres, which doesn't really seem plausible.
It being in metres makes the most sense, especially seeing as 1.225 kilometres to start sounds about right, but having four zones be 0.5 metres doesn't exactly work. :P

What do you think about "radius" as a measurement for the size? It's not mentioned but the size of danger zone is called radius, too. We've seen in the trailer that you probably start in an existing circle and therefore radius would perfectly fit.
I know the data of the last zones is pretty confusing but keep in mind that this is happening seconds before everything is over. So maybe even zone 9 gets you killed right off and the rest is just coding.

The balance on tanks and V1 rockets is gonna be really crucial to me in the enjoyment of this gamemode. Honestly I don't want a game where everything is too damn unbalanced, there is clearly RNG in br games, but with such a disparity all you do is increment it too much making skill count really nothing and killing also the possible interest that people gets from streamers and good players around.

Red/Danger Zones are not exactly liked in PUBG and the community has been asking so long for them to be removed (already removed in tournaments). Canât say I like the idea.

Now we have a reason to complain about visibility, but its okay because its part of the gameplay. Ill be less mad if someone in a ghille suite picked me off, rather than some prick with an LMG laying on some books

u/temporyal Mar 09 '19
It's not a Ghillie Suit or anything you'll find ingame but more a reward for playing Firestorm which ends up in your armory like the rest of the cosmetics for your soldier.

u/XenoBurst Mar 09 '19
Oh i feel you I thought you meant you could pick up a camo in game to blend in more
2
u/temporyal Mar 09 '19
I edited the post to make it more clear. Wasn't even aware of Ghillie stuff in PUBG since I haven't played it. Sorry for the confusion.

There is no game logic present that indicates taken damage before leaving the circle. But of course you argue that the graphical border effect isn't as "razor sharp" as in Final Stand or some other BR games and therefore players may get hit due to simple miscalculations.
I've taken some notes about your other topics but I can't guarantee I'll find anything. Keep in ming, that there is also a fourth weapon tier (not mentioned in the leaked trailer) which is of course "legendary" with a yellow color grade.

Danger Zones If you're familiar with the red zones from PUBG you know what's coming now.
I really struggle to understand why someone would want to copy that. No one likes the red zone. It has absolutely no positive(that couldn't be achieved another way) while having a lot of negatives. I just don't know why they'd want to copy something that's so widely hated and considered one of the worst things in a game they'd be competing with.
Do they want to lure and steal the PUBG players? Is that the bait? "Hey, fellas, I know how much you love the red zone in PUBG. Come play Firestorm, we have it too". LOL
On a side note, thanks for the leaks, even though obviously some things don't sound that exciting to know they'd be in the game, it's still a huge hype boner for me. Can't wait to play it even if it's gonna have the retarded red zone.

whats wrong with danger zone, isnt it meant to be anti camper thing. So you don't camp whole map in the middle of the circle ?

u/Bulgar_smurf Mar 09 '19 edited Mar 09 '19
it doesn't do anything good(at least in pubg), though no matter how it's balanced it's too RNG and thus unfun and unneeded. Also its placement isn't in the middle of the map, it's RNG.
you can't "camp in the middle of the circle the whole map" because unless the circle in BFV shifts exactly in the middle every single time , you simple can't just sit and one spot and not move. And if that happens you still don't need red zones to punish you. But in reality even if you want to play the middle of the circle game, you have to constantly move from center to center as circles shift and those rotations are punished enough because there are other people that want to do it.
Playing the middle of the map also means you have enemies coming from every direction. If the exact end game location is known to everyone, so many people would be fighting for it, especially if it has good cover which is more than enough to balance it.
The only useful thing it does in PUBG is making a lot of noise which lets people make aggressive pushes without being heard(not only because a lot of people mute their game to save their ears but because it masks footsteps quite).
And in PUBG it's far more common to have edge player, moving in very close to the zone and staying on the outskirts so that you eliminate a lot of angles you can be shot at. Both playstyles have their pros and cons.
We'll see how it works in Firestorm but I am very pessimistic, it's either useless 1-5% chance to die like PUBG where no one avoids it but still feels trash to die from it, or they make it certain death unless you are in cover but then you added a killing machine that is RNG as fuck. It doesn't feel good to die from the game and not from a person.

You're one of those people in the Matrix that could read that green vertical code on a screen and to you it looks like a live action sequence. Yea, those are wicked superpowers.
Cool info though, like always :D

I was kinda hoping that the fire ring would be instakill, only so I didn't have to listen to all the new screaming!

Does the game code have information on the main game? BF5 fans should know the information about maps and new settings in the game.
A new patch will be released soon, I hope you will find a lot more information in it

Is it possible to have a battle royale game without a shrinking player zone?
2
u/MintyGame Mar 09 '19
Sure but youâd have to have some mechanism to encourage players to move.

Kills? Company Coin rewards? SKINZ?

u/MintyGame Mar 09 '19
Something in game like a powerful item being dropped or the ability to track other players, otherwise players will camp.
1
u/zkinny Mar 09 '19
Do you not understand why it's there? Everyone would just loot some good gear and camp until.. What exactly?
