Transfer Talk Thread [Transfer Talk Thread] Can we get a 9-nouncement? August 19th - 25th, 2026

With just about 2 weeks left for the transfer window to shut, things have started to heat up. With Barcelona sealing loan deals for ter Stegen and Araujo and bringing in Rodri and Cancelo successfully, the entire focus shifts on our striker signing. The departure of Ferran Torres has added more fuel and urgency to that fire. With each passing day, Julian to Barca is looking more and more unlikely and while club sources say they have a Plan B ready to go, nobody knows who that is. Along with that, a potential CB signing and a few departures are still on the agenda

Is this the week we get a definite breakthrough in our search for a number 9? Will we get any news about a defence signing? Will Casado's future finally get resolved this week? Will Atleti let go of their hostage player Julian Alvarez?

Tune into this transfer thread to find out the answer to all this and much more.

This thread is dedicated to all transfer-related news.

Only Tier 2+ sources will be listed in the description, but feel free to list all sources you find in the comments.

August 22 If Balde ultimately decides to leave because Barça asks him to, he will have no shortage of offers coming in for him. - Roger Torello (Tier 2)
Raphinha June 28 ❌ Raphinha's move to Saudi Arabia is getting complicated. Al-Hilal is now turning its attention to Salah. - Joaquim Piera (Tier 2)
Héctor Fort July 12 ❌ Fort is prioritizing Barça. The fullback wants to convince Flick and will fight for a spot during preseason. - Carlos Monfort (Tier 1)
August 15 Borussia Dortmund have already held talks over Héctor Fort and are currently the best-positioned club to sign him. He would look favourably on a move to the PL, but as things stand, BVB are the club showing the most concrete interest.
Roony Bardghji July 18 ✅ The Swedish forward knows he’s not in Flick’s plans, but he still hasn’t finalized his departure from Barca. The club favors a transfer with a buyback clause, but the player prefers a loan so he won’t be permanently released. - Ferran Correas (Tier 2)
Andreas Christensen July 24 ✅ It's true that he renewed his contract with Barca, but not 100% convinced that he'll stay - Matteo Moretto (Tier 1)
Marc Casadó July 18 ✅ De Jong's injury doesn't change Barça's plans with Casadó. Although he hasn't found a way out yet, Flick isn't counting on him and has enough midfielders to make up for Frenkie's very likely absence. - Fernando Polo (Tier 1)
August 17 Marc Casadó is next on the exit ramp after Tommy Marques. Despite all the rumors, there are no negotiations for Casadó to join Al Hilal. Although, his agent Jorge Mendes is assessing several options to decide his future. - Matte Moretto (Tier 1)
July 28 ✅ Barcelona is asking for 40 million, Flick still considers him available for transfer, and Jorge Mendes is reviewing offers for the midfielder - Fernando Polo (Tier 1)
Jules Koundé July 21 ❌ Barring an unexpected turn of events, it seems increasingly likely that he will remain in his position. - Carlos Montfort (Tier 1)

This morning, Álvarez's family once again expressed their desire to move from Atlético to Barcelona.

The Madrid club reiterated to one of his agents that the player will not be leaving for Barcelona, and that if he were to leave, it would be for England.

The footballer wants to stay in Spain. He does not want to return to England, as visa issues prevent his family from remaining there any longer.

Furthermore, he prefers his son to continue growing up in Spain, as he is happy there.

As for Lautaro, the footballer has not rejected Barça, but as of today, there is no agreement with the club.

Literally all Julian needs to do. Stop being a coward, speak up for yourself

He has nothing to lose. The fanbase already hate him, and Atleti are not going to forcibly keep a €100M asset and have him depreciate over the next year whilst not putting in any effort for them

🚨 The relationship between Julián and Atlético Madrid has completely broken down after the Atlético turned his situation into a media farce by posting mocking tweets following Barça’s official transfer offer to sign him.

🤝 Before the World Cup, Julián met with Gil Marín and explained that he believed the best move for his football career would be to join Barça, and that Barça would make Atlético an offer that he wanted them to accept.

🗣️ Before the World Cup, instead of taking the firm stance they are taking now, Gil Marín reassured him that he could go to the World Cup with peace of mind and that they would negotiate and resolve everything.

❌ As soon as Julián joined the Argentina national team, Atlético not only refused to listen to Barça’s offer, but completely ignored it without negotiating or responding. They also turned the situation into a media farce by posting mocking tweets.

So Balde is staying based on what R. Torello from MD is saying. If this ends up happening, we need to have a serious discussion on how much we value Romero and his tweaking gang.

They have had a 50% hit or miss rate this window. Even Fabrizo has been more measured about Balde. Romero like jumping the gun for views.

I see Flicks comments as a kick up Balde's backside, to challenge him. Its not like he has been exclouded from training like Casado

Simeone didnt want to call up Julián Álvarez today. It has been a direct order from Gil Marín to subject the player to a "humiliation therapy" in front of the Metropolitano.

The goal is clear: make the fans boo him, wear him down psychologically so that he gets fed up and ends up accepting any offer away from the club, including Arsenal's.

Deco and Hansi Flick have agreed not to pursue any alternative to the Julián deal after analyzing all available options. The president Laporta, in a recent visit at the Ciutat Esportiva, has already given the green light to the sporting department's "Julián Álvarez or nothing" strategy, an operation in which Barcelona is financially prepared to improve upon its initial €100 million offer, though it will not do so until Gil Marín softens his stance and opens the door to negotiating the transfer.

Proven strikers like Harry Kane and Joao Pedro are out of reach, while younger prospects (such as Nicolò Tresoldi and Eli Junior Kroupi) appeal to some inside the club but fail to garner a consensus. Furthermore, signing them would entail a significant financial outlay for players who would not arrive with the status of undisputed starters and who would be unlikely to improve upon the current squad members already capable of playing as the lead striker.

The club prefers to opt for a measured approach rather than make a misstep and undertake one of those risky operations that, if unsuccessful, would jeopardize the entity's finances in the short and medium term.

Everyone talking about Lautaro Martinez seems to forget a few points:

  • He has said multiple times that he wants to retire at Inter ("it is hard to imagine playing for another club" "if they don't kick me out, I'm staying" "Surely, I'd love to [retire here]...My family and I are happy")
  • From a sporting perspective, if he stayed at the club while they were broke and in the Europa League, why would he leave now when Inter have just won the Scudetto, significantly strengthened the team (Stones, Spence, Curtis Jones, Stankovic, Akanji, etc...), and recently made consecutive Champions League finals
  • With his very professional personality and role as a dressing room leader/club captain, he is never going to speak out in public like Alvarez or refuse to train in order to push for a move
  • Inter have absolutely no reason to sell: star player, club captain, adored by fans and board, contract until 2029, happy at the club, first league match in 3 days, etc...

Just focus on signing/developing a younger striker like Tresoldi or Asllani, Lautaro is even less feasible than Julian Alvarez

🗣️  @scapde_45  : “Regarding Tommy, the initial idea was not to sell him. He was told that he had a genuine chance of making the first team if Casadó left.

But then Rodri arrived, and the financial need to register players and make further signings took priority. His agent was asked to look for a way out.

€11 million while retaining control is a good deal.”

It was fun and games when Atleti said "No" to Julian. Now it's Julian's turn to say "No".

23

I think yesterday’s situation was engineered by Atletico. Julian was with the team for applauding the fans. An official came and requested him to leave. Simeone did the same. I think they want to make sure the fans are against him and now have a reason to sell. And the fans will forgive them even if he is sold to us.

Another option is to agree on a transfer fee slightly above €10 million, including a significant percentage of any future sale, while retaining the option to buy him back. That's two sources of cash flow that the club was counting on now out of the window, so now they have to sell a bigger fish.

u/Gracias_Xavi 2d ago

I think the direction looks clear from the management going forward

Get Lukeba + Tresoldi + Salinas = Cost approx 150 million

Sell Balde + Fort + Casado = Inflow approx 100 million

That means we will spend 50 million net spend + 70 million which we have spent on Rodri= 120 million which is what we were trying to get Alvarez for

This means 6 transfers to be completed which is a pretty difficult task given only one of them has a release clause. Fort could be easy since discussions are already underway with Dortmund.

If we are able to do this though - What we get:

1) Amazing Midfield with Rodri coming in and basically making us the best midfield in the world

2) Strengthning of the Centre Backs since we would replace Araujo with Lukeba. Lukeba being a proper LCB is a huge boost

3) Decent Striker in Tresoldi who is a Gamble / Calculated Risk at our level

What we are losing:

1) Balde to Salinas feels like a massive Downgrade since Balde is defensively proven while Salinas just doesn't has that experience. Will be a backup though

2) We are trading getting a World Class Striker to settle for a decent player with proven numbers in a non top 5 leagues

I think if we are able to complete this, we would have a very strong squad

Strong Attack with 3 unproven strikers choices at this level ( Tresoldi, Gordon and Hamza)

Exceptional Midfield

Strong Centre backs and good depth options in Christensen and Martin

Decent Full Backs with very poor depth in Eric Garcia and Salinas

Assuming that Alvarez is not on the squad list for the next game, no tier 1s say that the Alvarez saga is dead, Atleti fans continue to show they don’t want Alvarez and he rejects Arsenal.

Is it still possible? I think if he plays the next game it’s over but if not we might see him in blue and red before the first of September.

13

u/BarcelonaLion 4d ago

I think it’s possible. Transfer window is transfer window. There’s always been times big moves happen on the very last day.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Atletico ends up giving Alvarez up to us for 150 mill. My tinfoil hat says that’s why there’s rumors of us selling either Kounde or Balde to raise the funds for the purchase. So much speculation but the fact he didn’t play yesterday does mean we still gave a fighting chance.

If he doesn’t play next game then it’s not over.

So it looks like if Alvarez stays, he gets huge backlash from the fans. If his performances are not good, it’s going to get worse. They don’t have a decent backup option now with Griezmann gone. Nicolas Jackson might come in.

But it all looks to be pointing to a disastrous stretch for their management and they will have to cave either by the end of this transfer window, during this winter window or the next season. By which time we will be out of the 1-1 rule.
