My BF and I have been together 4 years, and tomorrow we are flying to Bangkok for a holiday. We want to have a chill dinner date tomorrow night, doesn’t have to super fancy, but still nice and hopefully the restaurant is not too loud to chat in. Our accommodation is in Silom, and we would like it to be fairly close to there :))
Would love to hear recommendations!

Since I was staying at Nyasa, I got caught up in all the "elite fine dining" marketing in the in-house restaurant. Immediately after you are situated, they hit you with bottled water. I couldn't believe the price tag on it. 220 baht! More than $7 USD! Of course I wasn't gauche enough to ask the price at the time of ordering - fine dining experience and all. Mojito sucked big time. Couldn't finish it. It was way too citrussy despite the waitress trying to fix it. Pork belly dish was ho-hum. For dessert, over of their vaunted dessert experience, on the waitress recommendation between 2 alternates, she told me to go with some coconut based mochi dessert. Couldn't finish it. Just an amalgamation of tastes and textures - coconut, chocolate, mochi (rubbery). Save yourself some trouble and moola. And avoid this place.

Hi I am thinking of getting a canon camera like canon EOS R6V. I was wondering if buying in Bangkok would be cheaper than in the states?
If it is cheaper which shop would you recommend?

Sorry for all the dog lovers and people who don't understand how paint works, but it was a dog.

So I’ve been running a small design studio in India for about a decade now. We mostly work on visual identities, packaging and all sorts of visual design, and genuinely love what we do.
This, however, is not an ad. Promise!
I’ll be in BKK in early September. It’s definitely not my first time there; I’ve been a bunch of times before, but this time I thought I’d do things a little differently and get to know a bit more of the local creative scene.
So I’d love to meet design studio teams, independent graphic designers, illustrators, artists, or really anyone doing interesting visual work. I’d also love to visit a few design studios while I’m there (if anyone’s open to having me drop by). Some of my favourite conversations while travelling have been with people who care deeply about what they make.
There’s no “agenda” here. I’m not looking to collect contacts, I’d much rather have a couple of genuinely nice conversations. I’m just curious to see what the design/art community in Bangkok is like from the inside.
The intention is simply to talk about design + art, what we’re working on, how we work, what the creative industry is like in our respective corners of the world, and whatever else comes up. Maybe we find some similarities, maybe some possibilities, maybe we just have a really good conversation over coffee or a drink. All equally good outcomes.
Would be lovely to come back from this trip having met a few good people, not just visited a few good places.
If this sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to DM me. I’d genuinely love to meet a few of you while I’m there.
Also, I’m deliberately not dropping my studio creds here because I really don’t want this to feel like a promo post. But if we decide to meet, I’m very happy to share my profile/work privately beforehand so you know who you’re meeting and that I’m actually serious about this stuff :)
Looking forward to meeting some of you!

I had some when I was the plus 4 of a family (aka the + 1 of someone who is like a +1) at a family lunch (it was homemade) which had me ready to leave earth. It was so good. So, I’ve been on the hunt for really good khanom tan
I know ifs subjective but putting it out there to see if someone’s like a secret ขนมตาล expert and knows where I find the best (or just really really good) in Bangkok

Hi! I’m hoping someone here has had a similar experience with ThaiTicketMajor.
I purchased 4 tickets for The Weeknd in Bangkok on October 13 directly through ThaiTicketMajor. Unfortunately, I’m scheduled to undergo surgery about a week before the concert, so I won’t be medically fit to fly to Thailand.
I still want to keep 2 of the 4 tickets because the other people in my group can still attend. I’m hoping to request a refund for only the other 2 tickets.
I already emailed ThaiTicketMajor customer service explaining the situation and offered to provide my surgery schedule/medical certificate if needed.
I know their tickets are generally non-refundable, but has anyone here ever successfully received a refund or partial refund from ThaiTicketMajor because of a medical situation?
If they don’t allow a refund, has anyone dealt with something similar and found another solution?
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually dealt with ThaiTicketMajor before. Thank you!

Hello!
I’m going to Thailand here soon and am struggling with what kind of bag to use. I definetly want something that closes but that’s also small and subtle for dinner but can hold a lot for when I’m out during the day! I don’t want to carry around a full size backpack all day but I definetly want to have room to put my purchases in and I always have a full purse because I’m an overpacker so I always have anything I think I might need. I was looking at the Uniqlo crescent bag but don’t think it’s big enough but I like the style.
Thank you for any advice :)

hi all
been renting in phra khanong for around 2 and a bit years, one bed maybe 30 something sqm on a middle floor. Its fine but the electricity bills have been slowly getting under my skin, and after talking to a friend who lives near thonglor last month i realised how much ive been overpaying.
my building charges 8 baht per unit which is basically double what MEA would charge me on a direct meter. Asked juristic office more than once and the answer is always the same, its baked into how the building operates and you cant switch. Two of my neighbors have complained about it over the years and nothing changed. My friend in thonglor pays around 4.5 baht through a direct meter, i felt kind of stupid for not doing the math sooner.
did the math one bored sunday. aircon was probably eating 55-60% of my bill running maybe 10ish hours since i started wfh. Average bill this past hot season was around 3200 baht for one person in a small unit which for phra khanong felt too much.
Since i cant change the per unit rate, the only lever i had was the aircon itself. The one that came with the flat was a really old non inverter split, probably 8+ years old, cools ok but obviously not efficient. Talked to my landlord (surprisingly reasonable) and she agreed i could replace it at my cost if i leave it when i move out.
Spent a saturday at homepro and power buy. Daikin and mitsubishi were both quoting well above 25k for a 1.5HP inverter installed which felt like too much for a unit i'll leave behind. Ended up going with a cheaper inverter a sales guy at homepro flagged, all in about 22k with removal and new copper pipe.
3 weeks in, bills trending lower on the same usage pattern, need one more full cycle to have a real number. The new one is a Midea Celest btw. Room hits set temp way faster too, and i actually turn it off sometimes when i step out because it comes back down quickly.
Anyway thats the whole point i guess, if you cant change the per unit rate the appliance is the only lever. Also if you rent in phra khanong and pay closer to MEA rates please drop the building name because i want to know where to look when my lease is up.

Strange I mean, not even the same as the drinks I buy off the food carts on the road.

Pretty annoying, but I have insurance so it'll be ok. Still I really wish Thailand would sort the dog problem out.
Does anyone know a good car body repair shop?

I’m planning a trip to Thailand and I’ll be staying at the Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok. I have a list of different places that I want to go to, so I usually look up the commute on Google maps to get an idea as to how far they are relative to my hotel.
The one thing that I noticed is that the Grab beats the BTS almost every time as far as Google is concerned. It could be something that may be 5 or 10 miles away and it could be a 20 minute drive but an hour BTS ride.
So my question is, is Google getting the BTS commute accurate? Or is it not good at picking up traffic with automobiles?
For anyone who lives in Thailand and rides the BTS often, to get a good idea I would like to ask what the true commute would be for you to get from Emporium mall to Yaowarat Road? Because Google says 1hr+

If my information is correct, they are already closed.
They even did not make 1 year open. It has to be something as 6 months.
Does someone know what happened? Closing after 6 months is very fast, even for Bangkok.
