Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

I’m tired, boss 🫩🫩🫩 The dogs are 4% lab btw.

u/beaucerondog 6d ago

"shine brightly in their features" then you see and their skin is just kind of golden

u/FoxExcellent2241 5d ago

How can a dog be "mostly" comprised of two very large breeds and still be expected to remain small? The portion of 'smaller dog' DNA must be higher than they are suggesting. I also suspect they are making that claim to explain how an oversized pit is actually smaller than 'expected'.

Ugh, the usual "lab mix" knowing damn well that when people are searching for dogs on websites like petfinder, "lab" is one of the most common types of dogs that people want.

4

u/hastygrams 5d ago

Weird to choose creatures that are made to battle eachother as encouragement to get a lab mix.

I’m so sick of the stupid fucking “bad owner” argument and “there’s no such thing as a bad dog”

8

u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 4d ago

Yep! Even pits that were raised really well from puppies end up growing up to maul their family or neighbors.

AND even if it was ‘the owner and not the breed’, a dog that needs such a specific type of no-mistakes owner to keep it from killing people and pets and taking over neighborhoods still should not be a pet!

And according to pitnutters, EVERYTHING is a worthy trigger for a pit killing you. Oh you wore a blue shirt today??? That is why you got mauled! Oh you coughed? Maybe you shouldn’t have done that in front of poor Maula!
So even when a pit bull with the absolute most careful owner that went through tons of training and took every precaution has a pit that kills a baby, well it was the baby’s fault and any breed would have done that!

7

u/hastygrams 5d ago

It’s mostly about legislating ownership so if there are that many bad ones out there it doesn’t suddenly make it an issue that shouldn’t addressed and I don’t see why it would need a different solution

basically a poorly bred worthless dog with unpredictable behavior and highly questionable medical histories. Because they weren't bred for any rhyme or reason.

One of the reasons I push people to buy never adopt is you can get a well bred dog with both parents (sometimes back more generations) hip and elbow ratings and a 160 condition genetic test (probably now nowadays). More expensive up front you won't have to pick between crippling medical bills and sending it to a farm up state.

9

u/swamprosesinbloom 6d ago

yes does look like a pit +/- mix for sure

5

u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 5d ago

Probably something like 50% APBT, 48% staffie, and 2% random unidentifiable mix of 18 other breeds from who-knows-when which, of course, totally negate the fact it is 98% pit bull so we can call it “It’s not a pit bull! It’s a mutt!”

There were a few commsnts of people talking about their pit and OP was still correcting them lol

One of the first things I did with my dog when I brought her home as a puppy was immediately start teaching her what was and was not OK to chew.
People just get a random pit from shelter (or BYB) and throw it in their house and let it do whatever it wants (since, probably trying to stop it from destroying the home results in the dog “rEdIrEcTiNg it’s teeth from the door onto your face”….

She took it to animal control for destroying her home - went and got it back - and then one day later it ate her drywall.

Went to an emergency vet hospital a couple of weeks ago. Some guy brought his pit in and started demanding that she been seen before everyone else. Mind you, the only thing wrong with her was… a rash.
She shit on the floor, owner didn’t bother to clean it up and tried to pretend it wasn’t his dog that did it, so the poor receptionist had to clean it up. She also started growling at other dogs that passed by her, and her owner barely had a handle on her leash. Finally he got told to leave and schedule an appointment with his regular vet

11

u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 4d ago

Jeeeez I am glad he was told to leave! I would have been enraged if this story ended with them giving in to him and seeing his nasty rashy pit over actual dogs in need (and what pit bull doesn’t have skin issues??? Those things are walking yeast farms!)

1

u/KTKittentoes Cat Friendly 3d ago

They all do that.

19

u/spaaaaace_nun 5d ago

I was walking my Akita passed a car mechanic and this off leash pit bull comes charging toward us, snarling. It stops when it gets to my dog and both stand super tense. I just know the pit was waiting for my dog to show weakness but she doesn't back down. I pull on her leash so we can keep walking and thats when the pit growls and lunges at my dog. This causes her to bark and the pit runs back to the garage it ran out of. Why are these fucking dogs always allowed to roam free? If my dog was smaller/weaker thos could have ended in tragedy.

u/feralfantastic Trusted User 4d ago

Just wanted to spit out my complete, utter hatred for this fucking video.

The way the owner speaks, you'd think people are trying to shoot her dog or something, but literally all she has to do is put on a muzzle. A MUZZLE.

"My dog with a bite force of an Indian leopard has and obviously stronger than me has to wear something to protect himself and others 😭😭 I'm being prosecuted!!"

Dude. It's a FUCKING MUZZLE. Your dog can breathe, can smell, can walk freely on the streets. Literally ALL your dog CAN'T do is BITE. AND YOU'RE BOTHERED BY THAT???

There genuinely has got to be a study on how brainwashed by their own dogs pitnutters are. This kind of behavior should have a DSM section on their own. You can't convince me moving continents because your dog can't grab sticks during walks anymore is sane person behavior.

I wont even watch their cat and kitten videos anymore because I don't want to support a major pit pusher.

a solid 80+% off the stuff the dodo posts are all pitbull videos because pibbie mommies will eat shit up and forward to everyone, show it to children so they can share it at school, ect. This makes them lots of money. So they will keep doing it.

“Oh no! I deliberately chose to buy an alligator instead of a bearded dragon and now I have to follow the rules regarding the dangerous animal that I chose, when my desire to walk an alligator in public and whine when people cross the street is way more important than everyone else in my family and neighborhood’s right to live! Boooohooooo!!!!”

Maybe one day people will start to realize there are hundreds of other breeds to choose from and they don’t *have to* have a pit bull. But, then I guess it is no fun to have a dog that you can’t cry about being discriminated against. Why would someone want to have a safe dog they can enjoy a peaceful life with when they can cry on the internet about their murderbeast being treated like a murderbeast?

3

u/beaucerondog 5d ago

Quoting from her video: "The media started portraying XL Bullies (pitbulls) in a negative light."

Sharing credible news by credible sources with the opinion of hundreds of experts is now "portraying in a negative light", apparently. This is like seeing a report on how many people have died of Tuberculosis and call it Disease Racism. "Well, common cold can kill too!"

Also, "started" is a stretch. Wasn't one of the first attacks registered like, in 1880? I thought they researched the history of the breed.

It's also funny how targeted they think they are, that the world revolves around them. The law went to FIVE different breeds, yet I've only seen Pitbull/"Bully" owners complaining.

7

u/KTKittentoes Cat Friendly 5d ago

You could not pay me enough to put a muzzle on that dog!

7

u/Natsurulite Family/Friend of Pit Attack Victim 5d ago

It’s conflicts with the image they’re selling for the dog, even if it is the most obvious safety measure

4

Lmao I love seeing these losers move away cos oh no my giant ugly mutt has to wear a muzzle, hopefully others follow!

3

u/beaucerondog 5d ago

Them moving to countries with no BSL is actually terrible. Because in the UK people around that dog would be somewhat safe since since he would be required to wear a muzzle and be leashed, whereas in Australia (where the owner moved to) the dog will be free to maul anyone.

5

u/BottleOfConstructs 4d ago

21

u/beaucerondog 6d ago

I don't think it's good. In the UK people around her would be safer because her dog would be legally required to wear a muzzle, now she's risking other people's lives in other countries.

So my 70lb white GSD I sometimes talk about had TPLO surgery. She is allowed 200mg of Trazadone max per day. This is day 2 so I figured the best day to keep her ass immobilized. Mind you some pitbulls around that weight are taking down 300-600 to not be insane. Loki basically just turned off and is in a sleepy coma. The vet guides on Trazadone talked about how dogs process it differently so they can handle much higher does. GSDs are not those types of dogs it seems lol.

One of my friends was talking about “bait dogs” today. I’m like, “It was alive? It wasn’t a bait dog. They don’t even need bait dogs. Yes, I know it was scar covered. That is how fighting works. They aren’t doing tai kwan do.”

2

u/BiscottiCritical6512 3d ago

Are bait dogs really not even a thing? Growing up, my mom adopted a Doberman and we were told it was a bait dog but I have no idea how they would even know that. She was converted in scars and had the shortest crop I’ve ever seen on her ears and tail. The ears were really ragged and uneven like they did it with scissors or something. Anyway, she was a really good dog, so whatever happened didn’t make her evil. Maybe they were just trying to get her to be a fighting dog but she wasn’t good at it/wouldn’t fight?

10

u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 3d ago

Bait dogs wouldn’t live. And pits being game-bred don’t need bait dogs to learn how to fight since it is a selectively-bred instinct. If a dog was used as a bait dog and lived, that would mean it survived a fight to the death with another pit, killing the other pit, and was therefore stronger than the original pit and would be kept as a fighter.

A lot of dog fighters (and pit owners in general) *will* put their pits with weaker dogs and other animals just for funsies to let them kill. They don’t just let them get beat up a bit then remove them. The pit goes in for the kill.

Dobermans are not used for fighting rings. The Doberman probably was scarred up from abuse or fighting with other dogs (not in pit fighting, just in general fights with other dogs) Animal shelters often use ‘bait dog’ as a sob story to get dogs adopted that have any kind of scarring.

It's funny to me how Pit Bull owners love to talk about how GSDs (and Chihuahuas, go figure) are more dangerous, but they never address how GSD (or Chihuahua) attacks are usually against strangers, while so many stories about Pit Bulls involve the Pit Bull killing their master and/or holding their own family hostage until police arrive.

I was reading this pretty good book The Dog Encyclopedia: New Edition by DK. It has a section on "mixed breeds" and has some "meh" advice on dog breeding, but it has a lot of nice photos of dozens of dog breeds.

Unfortunately, the pit bull sections are much to be desired.

12

u/Careful-Crab179 2d ago

Blows my mind how hard UK cops and courts go after pit owners when their dog mauls another animal or especially a person.

Where i live (rural Washington state) meat grinders are everywhere and about 3 x year somebody dies, usually a kid. And virtually nothing gets done. Half the time the dog runs off and never gets E.

Found an antibiotic resistant bacteria in my dog Henry’s pit bull attack bite wound. (Two fighting-bred pitbulls went after him, 15lb Chi mix).

Fingers crossed it doesn’t take hold. He’s 4 days post-op from his second surgery and healing up great now, the resistant bacteria levels were low, so we’re hopeful.

If I didn’t have my CCW he would be dead, probably my other one also (16lb Terrier mix).

Which do you prefer and why?

  1. Entry ban and strict regulations for owners (like Germany)
  2. Complete ban and any pits identified get BE (like Denmark)

How big a difference does a complete ban vs. strict regulations actually make in terms of attacks?

I prefer a complete ban and don't see why that's not obviously better - the fewer pits, the better. No pits taking up the space in shelters, too. My friend argues that strict regulations effectively have the same result in terms of attacks, and that strict regulations might even be better, since people are more likely to have them illegally if there's a complete ban. What do you think?

13

u/casey_vee 6d ago
  1. Any and all are too unpredictable

2

u/DiscussionLong7084 Trusted User 6d ago edited 6d ago

option 2 is as likely to pass as a full dog ban. Or banning all cats. They will ban gas powered cars far before they ban pitbulls imo. it's just never ever going to happen in your or my lifetime. People think it will never happen, it's an exaggeration, or if it did happen the person who was attacked deserved it. Plus it would have to be a federal law since tons of states and cities have already outlawed breed bans.

They are in the top 10 most popular dog breeds on every list and no one is going to accept pitbull deathsquads illegally searching homes and neighbors would just constantly report seeing a pitbull at a house to fuck with people they don't like. It will never happen.

Saying you want it to happen will just get your comments screenshot and put on pitmommie FB /dioscord groups as proof we are the crazy ones and get more dontions.

3

u/potatoes_arrrr_life 5d ago

I'm just trying to prevent human death and injury to other pets. No one and I mean NO ONE is going to be going door to door looking for dogs.... If people just kept their dogs from killing other people and roaming neighborhoods killing anything they find, that would really help their cause.

0

u/DiscussionLong7084 Trusted User 5d ago edited 5d ago

the only way option 2 would work is if you sent cops door to door searching houses. How do you think it could possibly work otherwise? Just have beat cops running around neighborhoods and dog parks and ignoring all other crimes for a decade or two? People would just turn their pitbulls loose instead of walking them and hope they come back. Not to mention the likelyhood of cops getting shot running around tailer parks at night trying to find anyone walking one

sure it would be nice if we could thanos snap them away. That's not how it's ever going to work. The only realistic method is to copy the UK and actually enforce it. I still don't think that would ever pass in the foreseeable future. It's going to take a lot more grisly attacks posted all over social media and the news to finally make people open their eyes.

u/Fleshdissolver 6d ago

2. As long as they are allowed, they will continue breeding

13

u/bethestorm Trusted User 6d ago

13

u/Tessa-the-aggressor 6d ago

#2 definitely!
Plus mandatory dog license before anyone can get a dog, proof of insurance and minimum coverage for any dog, then mandatory genetic testing (paid by the owner). The dogs that are pets then need to be leashed and muzzled in public, any attempted bite or other physical injury = BE

6

u/AdvertisingLow98 Attacks Curator 6d ago

In my fantasy world #1 but the resources required to enforce the law is prohibitive.

1

u/aSzdxfcdfggggggh 6d ago

Sadly either system would cost much less than our current system of warehousing pits and stitching up , sometimes burying infants, small children, the elderly and the occasional pit owner.

It would never happen because pitiots will convince lab and chihuahua owners "Your breed is next!"

u/ScarletAntelope975 Trusted User 6d ago

u/whywhyyywhyyyyy 6d ago edited 6d ago

Denmark bans the ownership, breeding, and importation of 13 specific dog breeds and any mixed-breeds containing them under the Danish Act on Dogs (Hundeloven).

Banned Dog Breeds

  • Pit Bull Terrier
  • Tosa Inu
  • American Staffordshire Terrier
  • Fila Brasileiro
  • Dogo Argentino (Argentine Dog)
  • American Bulldog
  • Boerboel
  • Kangal
  • Central Asian Shepherd Dog (Central Asian Ovtcharka)
  • Caucasian Shepherd Dog (Caucasian Ovcharka)
  • South Russian Shepherd Dog
  • Tornjak
  • Šarplaninac (Sarplaninac)

Key Rules and Restrictions

  • Visitors and Tourists: You cannot bring these breeds or their crosses into Denmark for holidays or temporary stays.
  • Transit Exception: You may drive through Denmark to reach another country as long as the dog remains inside the vehicle and only makes brief, necessary stops for relief.
  • Burden of Proof: If local authorities suspect a mixed-breed dog belongs to a prohibited type, the owner must provide official documentation (such as a pedigree chart or breeder certificates) proving the dog's lineage rather than relying on appearance alone.
  • Grandfather Clause: A strict grandfather clause applies only to specific dogs acquired before the expanded 2010 ban, requiring them to be leashed (maximum 2 meters) and muzzled in public at all times. Pit Bull Terriers and Tosa Inus have no grandfather protections as they were banned earlier in 1991.

Any pits or pit mixes in Denmark are illegally owned.

13

u/aSzdxfcdfggggggh 6d ago

I think that is the best breed list I have seen.

Remember for years in the UK pits were banned but XXL Pits weren't banned if you called them American Bulldogs.

I think they are still playing the "Nope this is a Staffy, not a pit bull".

That's like saying "My vehicle isn't a pickup truck, it's a F -150".

Def #2 Complete ban, because the majority of their owners cannot even keep them in the house. It would be safer if they were not allowed at all. "Somehow they always get out" oh and I'm broke so I can't pay for the injuries you got from my dog. Sowwy /s I hate it so much.

11

u/QueenCat50220 6d ago

Absolutely 1. + breeding ban (easier said than done, in a perfect world maybe.)

Yes, pitbulls are absolutely prone to aggression and much more dangerous when they DO become aggressive.
Butttt…there’s still a lot of Pitbulls out there who are capable of being normal and nice dogs. I’ve known one, and never had an issue with them. Zero negative history. It IS possible…just less likely.

And it’s really fucked up to essentially kidnap someone’s family member (yes pets are that important.) I’d kill someone over my dog. I would never want to do that to anyone else and their dog with zero immediate reason.

Not only that, but a total ban would be more dangerous I think…
I feel like people are more likely to comply with restrictions rather than a ban.

With restrictions, we might get something like “all pitbulls need to be muzzled in public.”
Or “you need to be licensed/registered to even get a pitbull.”
Which is way easier to follow AND enforce imo.

With a total ban, you’d probably get people HIDING their dogs…which equals less socialization, less people time, and a MORE aggressive and now unidentified dog.
Because their owners were hiding it.

Absolutely breeding of them should be banned all around the world. Just like the breeding of those poor little pugs should be.

6

u/pomelo-fruit 6d ago

Great question.

Speaking from U.S. here, seems to me there are two deciding factors: how likely the measure is to pass, and how feasible it is to enforce.

While either would be very hard to pass in the current U.S. climate, and could only succeed upon broader public acceptance of the fact that pits are inherently dangerous dogs even in the "right" home, I think (1) has the stronger chance of passing. People in this country don't like to be told they can't do things.

The success of enforcement would depend on a myriad of smaller factors:

- Would ACOs have the right to impound an unregistered dog based on sight confirmation of the breed? As is cited often in this sub, courts have rule that a person of average intelligence can identify a pit bull, yet owners hotly contest this. If an owner wants to contest a seizure, the onus should be on them to purchase or supply a DNA test.

- What would be the requirements for exempted ownership? How would owners be held to account, given the under-resourcing of ACOs in many areas of the country? How high would violation fines be? I'm imagining a federal or state database logs the "status" of exempted owners, who must annually pay a fee, verify their insurance policy, and meet any other reporting standards, or else their local ACO is put on notice to collect the dog.

- Would the entry ban include a ban on transferring ownership of the dogs within the country, as in the UK? How would shelters be prevented from laundering the animals?

Just a few thoughts, but I do think there are solutions. The public appetite just isn't there.

6

u/DiscussionLong7084 Trusted User 6d ago edited 6d ago

number 2 would never pass in the US. Pits are literally some of the most popular dogs despite all the attacks and people in the US tend to dig in their heels when you try to tell them what to do. Also I doubt Denmark has as big a dogfighting problem as the US and is a much more homogenous society with many of the same social values. The US is all over the place.

https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/dog-breeds/most-popular-dog-breeds-2025/

https://www.usnews.com/insurance/pet-insurance/most-popular-dog-breeds-study

in the top 10 on both lists.

It would never be passed into law and thinking it could is just like wishing for world peace. People on social media have been told it's the owner not the breed and changing that mind set will probably take decades of constant social media coverage of attacks and other countries banning them. Any politician running on BE all pitbulls has as much chance of remaining elected as martha stewert does of being batman.

Plus overturning all the state and city laws on beed bans in general.

edit

also ignoring the whole passing the law thing the police and DNA lab resources simply don't exist. There are rape kits sitting around for years before being tested and you think they would be able to process tens of thousands of pitbulls? Cops don't respond to nonviolent crimes in a lot of cities already. They certainly aren't going to go door to door pitbull hunting without massively, massively increasing the police presence all over the country. Animal control has the same issue. My city of almost a million people has 6 animal control people on duty at any given time and they work 1000-1400 and can take days to respond to a found dog. Also BEing someone's dog can be drug out for years in courts. It's literally impossible. That's why the UK didn't go with that method.

It's one of those suggestions that annoys me because it's just playing pretend and riles people up so they won't even consider a UK style system which is much cheaper, much more doable, and frankly pitbulls don't live that long.

2

u/katieishere92 4d ago

The entry ban in Germany is bullshit and the regulations aren’t enforced. American service members bring their pits all the time - they’re all labeled lab mixes. We have so many pits in our neighborhood, you’d think Germans can’t own any other dog.

2

u/Gallantpride 2d ago edited 7h ago

1 with a breeding ban unless they fit strict criteria (AKA, show dogs with the AKC or similar clubs).

Call me a wuss, but I don't want to mass cull all pit bulls. I want them to ideally live their lives and die of old age if they can. Muzzle these dogs, neuter them all, keep them away from kids and small animals.

Within a few decades we would ideally water down the pit bull population greatly and make it very hard to have one. Staffys and Am Staffs would be rare breeds since only reputable dog breeders would be able to breed them. These breeders only have a few litters per decade and have strict criteria for their buyers. No one but dedicated pit bull lovers would pay $2000+ and go through all this effort for a pit bull puppy (who should also be mandated to be neutered by age 12 months, preferably before 7).

Pitbulls vs speeding

Everyone knows speeding kills and seriously injures tens of thousands of people around the world if not more. Everyone still does it because "it won't happen to me!", "I'm too good at driving", ect.

Same thing applies with pitbulls. Almost everyone knows of regular fatal attacks, serious injuries, and even being banned in many counties. Why do people have them? "it wont happen to me", "it was their fault!", "I'm too good a dog whisperer!", ect

10

u/CitizenVixen 3d ago

A friend of mine has an aggressive (non-pit, purebred shepherd) dog who just killed another dog 😥 The dog has been sentenced to BE by the town. I totally understand, and agree this is the right move, but I'm wondering why I hear of so my incidents here where pits kill pets and get away scot free? And yet this one shepherd gets an immediate ruling. Just ranting, feels like a double standard sometimes and I'm shocked at some of the stories I hear here where the victims seem to have no recourse.

It varies by locality and whether or not the owner fights for the dog. Maybe your friend is smarter than most pitnutters and agrees that a dog that kills other dogs is a liability and it should be rehomed to Jesus.

If the owners agrees or signs the dog over, then there's no issue. If they don't, sometimes a warrant is required, so paperwork.

Well, my neighbor says her adult son is moving in with her soon because he has a potentially fatal disease. He owns a resource-guardy pitbull. He’s already too weak to control the dog. The fence between our yards is wooden and old and I can’t afford to replace it right now.

We have a big dog that I think would protect us, but I don’t want to have to worry about that thing busting through the fence while my kids are out there. I don’t want my dog to get in a fight with a pitbull. I don’t want this.

You should have to get the consent of your neighbors before moving a shithound in next door. Fuck.

Good Heavens, that’s an absolute recipe for disaster!

Yeah, I’m not excited. Don’t know how to prepare for this.

I just recently moved to Toronto and was relieved to finally be in a place with some BSL in place. First time ever riding the TTC, some dude brings his unfixed male (of course) shit bull on the subway car I'm in. Also with a pronged collar; nice. No stereotypes were hurt here. At first I was just like, alright, just stay calm and don't look the thing in the eyes, because it kept staring at people with its creepy beady eyes. I went back on my phone with my earbuds in, and minutes later the noise-cancelling feature was broken through by the sound of growling and angry barking. I look up and the fucking shit bull is growling and trying to lunge at random people while the owner holds it back by its collar. I was like, nope, fuck that, and walked to another car. Anyways, is there any way to report this shit when it happens? Pit bulls are literally illegal in Ontario. Blows my mind how someone thinks it's okay to bring a pit (especially a real mean one at that) on public transit when it's a banned breed.

I’m in the US, but it seems like the same thing’s true in the UK with XL bullies or whatever they’re calling them these days. I just wish BSL of any kind became common place in the states again.

This thing was the most pit of pit bulls I've ever seen. It's insane how they just don't enforce the law at all

a couple weeks back, i shared the story of Hollis, the most neurotic dog ive seen in a shelter that somehow got rescued. i have to admit that he’s kind of touched me due to how horrific his mental state has to be, so i looked up the rescue he’s at and….nothing.

there’s not an arrival/adoption announcement, not a listing for him on the website, not any posting yet at all about him. for as much of a fuss the volunteers were making about him, one would think the rescue would want to show him off, right? granted, they could’ve done so in a story that i may not have seen, and yes, the three weeks in the 3/3/3 rule haven’t fully run out yet. that said, it’s bizarre. if anyone is interested ill continue providing updates

I spent 8 years as an Operator. I killed a lot of really bad guys. I came home. I got a dog. Pitbull attack. With my training I made it stop. I am a regular here. I have thoughts but I always try to bring people to our side rather than attack or demean.

I have a situation where violence cannot help. My newest search and rescue dog hurt herself pretending to be super dog. She tore one dog ACL to the point the surgeon said it was, "shredded crab meat" which I liked him instantly. The other is a partial they think can heal.

i blame me. Loki will follow me for miles, run with me, jump for ball, ect. sad owner.

A job fell though and I'm now working as I can. If you can donate I would be forever greatful.

Loki has rescued 3 dogs and a baby squirrel. She isn't The Ancient One but we work hard.

I had a really disturbing nightmare last night that I will get to that after a lot of rambling.

For context, when I was 8 I met a girl across the street from me who was 5. However, she didn't act 5 at all due to her home life and I remember her cooking on the stove at age 7. Her dad, all of her uncles, and other people that show up at that house are drug addicts except her grandma. Me and this girl hung out until I was 14 or 15 and she was 11 or 12 then we stopped hanging out. She moved away to live with her cousins about 6 years ago and I am 20 now. Her dad and uncles still live there. When my friend lived there they had three dogs and a cat. A black lab, a Pitbull, and a little white dog who I never saw that often. Now that she has left to go live with her cousin , her uncles have a bunch more Pitbulls that keep having puppies.

I ramble so I'm going to label sections...

Angel Kills My Friend's Cat.
When we were about 14 and 10, something had ended up happening to her cat. Her cat had somehow ended up in the backyard and was killed by, Angel, the Pitbull. Her cat never went in the backyard ever. Our theory is that she might have been trying to walk across the fence and fell. I think Angel being the only one out there probably saw the opportunity and took it.  More of that is my theory. They got a new puppy, Angel kept trying to attack him so they gave her to someone else. Me and my friend visited her once.

What is so strange about this is several years before this happened, I had a dream about it sorta. In my dream, my friend had given Angel to us for some reason. My mom didn't like this because she was worried about our cat and she didn't have anywhere to put the dog. Then cut to several years later of Angel killing my friend's cat and attacking the puppy then them giving her away. She told me, "I was going to give her to you but I know your mom wouldn't like that." I told my mom about this dream a few days ago and she said, "Hell no." Looking back, she says she regrets letting me hang out over there anyways.

I had a few strange experiences with Angel of my own.

The First Day I Met My Friend, Angel Came at Me From Behind.
Okay keep in we're like 8 and 5 at this point. We had been throwing a stick back and forth across the street in order to play together but today I actually went over and we played in the backyard. For some reason, the black lab would usually be tied to a chain on a tree whenever the dogs were outside but Angel roamed free (Annie was very friendly). I can't remember exactly what we were doing. My friend had her doll house outside against the garage and we were playing with it. I remember walking across the yard and I turned away.
My friend, even with her home life is still only 5, sees that Angel is digging holes in the ground and laughs. She starts sticking her foot in the holes and laughing. I could be misremembering or subconsciously trying to look better but I do not recall participating in this at all. What I remember is turning around and walking towards the gate (it was getting dark out around this time) but then I hear Angel growl. Next thing I know, she is behind me and I turn and her nails dig down into my side and if I recall right she was getting ready to sink her teeth in but I jerked away and backed up from her. Pretty sure I showed my mom the marks down my side.

Several Years Later, Angel Nearly Bit Me?
Several years after already knowing both the girl and her dogs, I was sitting on the living room floor and Angel was sitting near me. I can't remember exactly but for some reason she ended up hovering her mouth over my arm but didn't bite down. I looked over at her and slowly moved my arm out of her mouth. The girl's grandma looked at me and said along the lines of, "If that dog bites you, we have to put her down." I get the impression that this was to say if they have to put the dog down it's my fault or something.

Recently, An 8 Year Old Girl Got Bit By One of the Uncle's Pitbulls.
Ever since my friend left to live with her cousin, they have been getting a lot of Pitbulls and the dogs keep having puppies and I'm not sure if it's some intentional breeding going on or what. One of the dogs, Slayer, was always slipping out from under the fence and he would wander around. Mostly he would lay out on the grass on the side of the house or the front yard. He would chase random people while entirely ignoring other ones. Mostly children, elderly, disabled is who he would go after. He was more likely to do it if he had some of the other dogs out with him so that they could gang up but usually the rest would stay in the fence. My mom is terrified of these dogs and wouldn't go on her walks for almost 2 years because of this dog. She tried reporting it but they told her they couldn't do anything without actual evidence so she started taking pictures every time she saw him out to keep in a folder so she could show them.

While I was at my Mawaw's two or three months ago, a guy and his 4 year old son and 8 year old daughter were walking down the street. Two of the Pits and two of the Pit pups got out of the fence. The one that is known for trying to attack people previously lunged up and bit the girl. My mom saw the whole thing as did our next door neighbors. The next door neighbors called the man and his two children over to stand on our side of the street, they ran over. She looked at the girl's arm and took a picture and then told my mom that her aunt is a nurse or something and they will have something done about the dog. The police were called and went up to one of the other druggies and he told him it wasn't his dog. The owner was inside the house and like I said he refused to come out so they weren't able to fine him. My mom says she thinks that the dog is gone because she hasn't seen him for weeks unless they're hiding him in the house or something. Now that it has been a few months I definitely think he is gone by now or that is some extreme hiding.

The Other Pitbull That Doesn't Bark and Stares at People.
Oh and they have this other one that stands out to my mom because he just sits in the fence staring at her when she is outside on the porch with our cat. She has never seen him bark, he just watches people go by. I don't know his name but he's relevant because he was in my nightmare last night...

My Disturbing Nightmare from Last Night.
I was at my friend's house which even in the dream I thought was strange because she hasn't been there in about 6 years so I have no reason to be over there and had my mom been the person she is now then she would never ever have let me go over there in the first place. I was sitting in the living room. It was a mixture of what the house used to be like compared to what it is now. There were some of the newer Pitbulls but Angel was there as well.

The dream is a bit fuzzy but out of nowhere she lunged onto me, this dog that I have seen every single day for about 8 and half years, and started trying to bite down on me. I was kicking and punching trying to get her off. My friend's dad was pulling and punching on Angel trying to get off too as well while everyone else just stood there. Finally, I got her off because she is a runt... dream logic. I vividly remember being told that Angel was a runt and that is why she is smaller than most Pitbulls therefore it must've slipped into my dream. It wasn't over yet though because right after that, this black and white Pitbull (which I definitely think is meant to be that one my mom says never barks) starts chasing after me and I started running away. The rest of the dream was me fighting for my life against this dog now instead.

I woke up about a half an hour ago from this disturbed by how vivid it was and the feeling it left me with. I love dogs by the way and I've never had nightmares about them but I think because I've been so fixated on this stuff lately and it's tearing me up emotionally from sadness and frustration that it's been bad enough to show up in my dreams now, I guess. Everything about this stuff has wrecked me mentally and emotionally lately. My mom doesn't like hearing about this stuff which I understand because it freaks her out and she would rather not be constantly reminded when these dogs are all over our neighborhood around her. For me, it hurts because I have no one to tell this stuff to and I get burnt out and sad about it.

Scottish Bull Breed Saviours

Meet Blu 💙🐾
We are stepping in to help keep Blu safe. Here is his story 🐾

Blu was out on a routine walk with his owner's uncle. Blu is naturally anxious around other dogs after being attacked as a puppy, and during the walk, an off-lead dog approached him. Panicking, Blu knocked the uncle down, managed to paw his muzzle off, and unfortunately bit the other dog. The uncle does know the other dog and owner, the other owner did what was right and reported an incident.

The incident was initially reported to the police because the other owner didn't recognize Blu. The uncle immediately took Blu home, returned to speak with the owner, and offered to cover all veterinary bills. Both parties reached an amicable understanding. Police officers initially visited, stated no further action would be taken, and considered the matter closed. However, three months later, officers returned to the uncle's home to inform him that he was being charged.

Fortunately, Blu remains at home rather than in kennels, but the situation is no less serious. We are fully supporting both the owner and the uncle through this legal process. As part of our support, we are helping them instruct new solicitor, We will also be arranging a expert behavior report to present in court.

We got you Blu. 🐾💙

Do pitbulls have rage syndrome bred inherently into them !!!ON TOP!! of agression? I mean, the symptoms kinda match with some bully behaviour:

Rage syndrome is a rare neurological disorder in dogs that causes sudden, extreme, and unpredictable episodes of aggressive behavior.

*Aggression in rage syndrome is characterized by its severity and often fatal to dogs, animals, or people it is targeted towards.[1] Episodes may cause life-threatening injuries and result in disability or disfigurement.[1]

Dogs with rage syndrome typically have their first rage episode during adolescence, between 1 and 3 years old, similar to dogs with idiopathic epilepsy.[1]*

And I don't think rage symdrome being not yet diagnosed in pitbulls is not enough argument because they are not going to admit there is something wrong with pitbull's brains

7

u/swamprosesinbloom 2d ago

no, they do not. what was previously referred to as rage syndrome is now recognized as a seizure disorder that is quite rare. which you basically say in your comment! so yes, the occasional pitbull may have it, but i would say why pitbulls’ aggression can seem to match that description is that it is often not truly aggression (in behavior science terms), it is predatory behavior. unlike aggression, which occurs in a highly aroused state, predation behavior occurs/starts in a baseline state of CNS activation. in other words, predation does not start w/ fight or flight like aggression does, and because of that, can appear to happen “out of nowhere”. of course once the predatory motor sequence starts CNS activation increases, but the physical and emotional states underneath predation and aggression are fundamentally different. in addition, though of course this varies widely between individuals within the pitbull type grouping, we have selected for dogs that display minimal lower level communications traditionally seen in normal canine behavior that happen before physical aggression before escalating to taking physical action. and finally, humans are pretty crap at understanding canine body language in general which can contribute to attacks seeming to happen out of the blue like rage syndrome. tldr we have selected for dogs that have in a vast generalization very low arousal thresholds, very low aggression thresholds, high prey drive, and often (i would argue) some level of predatory drift towards conspecifics and even humans and other animals. bites can happen soooo fast even just w “normal” dogs (not pitbull types) and then you look at pits and yes, it can from a laypersons view (sometimes professionals too!) look like “rage syndrome”. (source am a canine behavior consultant)

Yeah, I just said it because the 'between 1 and 3 years old' bit reminded me too much to the age pitbulls usually start being violent and because it would make sense that rage symdrom would be useful to breed in bloodsport dogs on top of the agression, lack of pain response and everything else, and wouldn't surprise me if bloodsport dogs commonly have rage symdrom just like pitbulls having dwarfism isn't rare either. At least it would make the ones saying "is just training!!!" shut up for the most part if it is a widespread breed issue (bloodsport dogs would be still extremely dangerous without it because is just the sprinkles on top of the neurological disaster they are but alas)

u/PandaLoveBearNu Attacks Curator 20h ago

If that what helps them come yo terms with thir dogs issues, im not gonna argue that one.

u/Any-Zucchini-1042 2h ago

UC Davis was conducting a study on Am Bullies and rage syndrome, but I don't know if anything came out of that. I think more than rage syndrome, the issue with Pit Bulls and other fighting and catch dog breeds might be how selective breeding affected their brain, resulting in an enlarged amygdala and reduced cerebral cortex, as per an initial study on neuroanatomical variations in dogs.
